Recently, DSRC technology is used in the various fields such as parking system, BIS, ETC, etc. This paper suggests a traffic information system using this DSRC technology. The traffic information processing based on point detection using existing vehicle detection equipment is the system in which a collection and a service are operated separately while the traffic information system based on the link detection using DSRC is able to collect and provide the traffic information through the communication between RSE and OBU. The speed of a traffic congestion is high on the process converted from a point passing speed to a link average speed because the vehicle detection equipment makes the link traffic information into the point information. When the condition of traffic is deteriorated, traffic speed of the vehicle detection equipment becomes higher than DSRC. Especially, in this system, deflection by data of the traffic speed of the traffic information system is much decreased, and the unexpected condition detection and traffic condition are provided promptly.

A dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) traffic information system is a detection system for a section of road using communication between roadside equipment and on-board High-Pass units to collect road traffic information and provide reliable traffic information to drivers. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced that a DSRC system must be supported to pass the performance evaluation of an intelligent transportation system (ITS), and the performance evaluation for DSRC systems installed in expressways and national highways is started. Currently, DSRC traffic information systems are only managed for maintenance and functional-monitoring purposes, which means that detailed criteria for the operation of a DSRC traffic information system, such as communication range, the direction of the antenna, and the power of the radio wave, etc., need to be established. In this paper, the criteria of the performance evaluation of a DSRC traffic information system are presented for different road types and road environments. The proposed performance evaluation criteria included the communication range and communication power of roadside equipment. In addition, installation criteria, such as the direction of the antenna, and the height and angle of the installed system, are presented for different road types and road environments. The criteria presented were evaluated for DSRC roadside equipment and documented to improve system maintenance and quality control of the communication system.

Recently, a number of OBU(On Board Unit) have being spreaded since ETCS(Electronic Toll Collection System)using DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) was installed in the tollgate of the whole country. Many R&D and commercialization related to ITS service using DSRC and OBU mentioned above are ongoing such as traffic information collection and provision and a signal control, and public traffic information and management and so on. Especially, there are many researches conducted(conducting) on traffic information collection and provision using communication between OBU and RSE. However, Standards for both DSRC application and traffic collection and provision are not established clearly yet. So we would like to suggest a method of traffic information collection and provision without changing of standard related to DSRC. This method is to put the traffic messages into the existing Action primitive for ETC, which is described on "Technical criterion IV of basic traffic information exchange" which was notified by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. Proposed standard application method is applied both to RSE and OBE. It is the same system which ETCS used in highway, currently. We confirmed the efficiency and performance of the system through conducting a variety of driving test using 4 vehicles in real road condition. Result of the real road test shows the effectiveness and validity of this method with about 97% communication success rate and based on studying the cases of 3% communication failure, we can analyse the expected problems in traffic information collection and provision using this method.

This study investigates the reliability of DSRC-based traffic information system on the typical urban arterial with the minimum sample size method. VISSIM has been employed to calculate the required sample size. After comparing the number of hi-pass vehicles recorded from DSRC and the required sample size, this study found that the interrupted traffic state tends to generate more outliers than the uninterrupted one, the lack of the number of vehicles completely passing links with multiple driveways makes it difficult to estimate the reliable traffic information, the traffic information during peak hour is relatively more reliable than that during off-peak hour, and the reliability of DSRC-based traffic information system depends on the significance level in calculating the sample size. The driveway density and traffic signal operation due to the individual link length significantly affects the required sample size, resulting in determining the reliability of the DSRC-based traffic information system.

OBE(On Board Equipment) of IR(Infrared)/RF(Radio Frequence)-DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) are set up 1.25 million cars because Korea Highway Cooperation supplied in HiPass(Domestic Electronic Toll Collection System). But this DSRC system has strength and weakness of service for BIS(Bus Information System) or UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System) because BIS and UTIS are required vary high communication's performance and management. In this paper, Efficiency of IR/RF-DSRC is analyzed performance of MAC(Medium Access Control) by computer simulation for services of BIS or UTIS, so Suggested to be commensurated with medium of there service. Specially, DSRC is needed high mobility and throughput in the vary short communication range, so Analysed the transmission rate of data in each communication medium over the specific character of the MAC frame.

In this paper, we propose the EPTS(Emergency vehicle Priority Transit system) for a rapid drive or emergency vehicles at the crossroads. The EPTS is one part of real-time traffic management system in the advanced traffic management system. The EPTS needs the connection or a traffic control system and a DSRC system. It can be applied to the real traffic situation considered with other traffic elements. As the result it is possible for the EPTS to nonstop drive because it induces an efficient drive of emergency vehicles. It is also relatively safe at the crossroad, it is expected that the EPTS is suitable for a telematics service which values efficiency above everything else.

In order to design and plan a city, the importance of collecting traffic information increases. However, current method to collecting traffic information by using sensors layed on the roads is not appropriate for exceptional cases such as national highway or newly planned city area, where sensors are already not layed. To scope the cases, the traffic information is estimated from traffic information of surroundings area. This paper develops portable traffic volume measuring equipment utilizing two or radar detector, so that more useful traffic information can be obtained in any environments. Furthermore, the system allows users to be able to instantly analyze gathered data on the site. The system has been tested in the field and proved the excellences theough the field test.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of MAC (Media Access Control) layer in DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication). It will be widely applied for ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) services; for example ETC (Electric Toll Control), BIS (Bus Information System) etc., needed to small packet size. But If ITS service is evolving to advance ITS, ADIS (Advanced Driver Information Systems) and AVHS (Advanced Vehicle Highway System) etc, be needed larger packet size. In the future, it may offer more various services such as traffic information, collection, and multimedia information. There are two kind of physical media, IR(Infrared) and RF(Radio frequency). And each system has their own protocol that is adaptive in special characteristics of physical medium for using efficiently limited radio resources. In this paper, we analyze the special characteristics of each system. And we study practical use of some related services expected to be used in the near future, by analyzing the transmission efficiency in each DSRC system.

In this study, we developed a OBE(On Board Equipment) system in which moving cars communicate directly each other to exchange traffic information. this system achieved by using DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication). this technology can improve the fidelity of collected information by transferring current state information from a moving car to center in real time. As a consequence of it, moving cars can be offer information service of hight quality even in a shadow zone. and also, in addition to basic ETC function for toll payment, using our newly developed system, delivering traffic information and providing additive service like GPS can be achieved by car-to-car direct communication within shadow areas without additional infra-structure.

DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communications), which is a radio mobile communication protocol in ITS, is suited for traffic related information services. But in WAC(Wide-Area wireless communications), we could consider a conventional communication infrastructure in the case of supporting other applications besides ITS. Especially considering the current the trends to introduce wireless internet service into the mobile communication network, wireless internet service in ITS system is valuable. Although ITS LLC(Logical Link Control) protocols recommended by Europe and Japan are effective for traffic related services, it is not suitable for services related with geographical information, image or internet. That is because the data traffic characteristics is changed according to service types. Therefore we suggest a logical link control algorithm effective for traffic information related services as well as internet web service, and analyze its performance. As a result of numerical analysis and simulation, proposed algorithm shows larger performance improvements. For traffic information related services, the performance of DSRC LLC recommended by Europe and Japan is the same as that of proposed LLC protocol. However, for wireless internet web service, the performance of proposed protocol is much better than that of LLC protocol used in Europe and Japan.
