The notion of a Dirichlet set has been studied for several decades. Such sets are named in honour of Dirichlet's Theorem [4, pp.235] which, in modern terminology, simply says that every finite set in R is a dirichlet set. In this paper, we present a structure theorem which characterizes all D-sets on the real line. We also use our structure theorem to give a new proof of a known criterion for proving that a set fails to be a D-set.

Since energy consumption of developing countries is expected to grow rapidly over the coming decades, the oil-importing developing countries are likely to encounter chronic balance-of-payments difficulties. To analyze the quantitative impacts of this problem, we develop a computable model of international trade. This paper presents four alternative cases - varying the assumptions with respect to energy supplies. This shows that relatively small difference in supplies can lead to 100% differences in the energy prices projected for 1990.

Multiple antenna technologies have received high attention in the last few decades for their capabilities to improve the overall system performance. Multiple-input multiple-output systems include a variety of techniques capable of not only increase the reliability of the communication but also impressively boost the channel capacity. In addition, smart antenna systems can increase the link quality and lead to appreciable interference reduction.

The dynamic inelastic analysis is now often performed for the safe structural design against the seismic events or explosions. Several powerful methods of dynamic inelastic analysis such as direct intergration methods and modal superposition methods were developed with the development of computers during the last three decades. This type of analysis generally adopts the step-by-step time-integration procedure and gives a complete time history of the evolution of the structure.(omitted)

Over several decades, a hierarchical cancer stem cell (CSC) model has been established in development of solid cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). In terms of this concept, HCCs originate from liver CSCs. Clinically HCCs show a wide range of manifestations from slow growth to very aggressive metastasis. One of the reasons may be that liver CSCs originate from different cells. This review describes the basic concept of CSCs and the cellular origin of liver CSCs.

Recently the needs for the experts who can solve the complex problem arising at the special areas are continuously increasing in our social life. This presentation is a short summary of the Finnish process for selection and characterisation of potential sites for geological deep disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The process lasted nearly two decades from 1983 to 2000, and was concluded by the Government's Decision in Principle (DiP) on the construction of a repository in Olkiluoto. This presentation gives an outline of the early site selection criteria and a description of this process.

Outcome of liver transplantation for children with end liver disease has been improved markedly during last two decades. Improvement of immunosuppressive agent and its strategy to use in children, development of innovative surgical technique, and better understanding of the course of liver transplantation attributed to better outcome of pediatric liver transplantation. Therefore this review article will focus on the problems which can occur during pre- and post-transplantation period, current strategy to use immunosuppressive agent for the better understanding of pediatrician who is not involved in transplantation but takes care of the children pre- and postoperatively.

Output traits centered on improved plant-based products will find their way to consumers in such ways as nutritionally enhanced foods, therapeutic proteins for disease treatment and vaccines, bio-industrial products, modified oil quality and biofuels. Significant progress in biotechnology has occurred over the last several decades. The importance of output traits development and production using biotechnology will impact not only agribusiness, but also pharmaceutical and food industries. The objective of this paper is to review briefly the current status of output traits development in crop plants using nutrients and pharmaceuticals as examples.
