  • This study identifies the comparison of Technical specification and Characteristics of DC Protection Relay(ETCPU200) used in DC Distribution System in Korea. ETCPU200 has completed Field Test and approved its capability by finding out causes of recent operations through lately developed digital DC protection relay in parallel operation at Maebong-Substation, Nakseongdae-Substation, Euljirosaga-Substation, Jegi-Substation and Chongryangri T/P area. It also examines additional features for efficient System Analysis and Operations.

  • A DC railway system has low feeder voltage, The fault current can be smaller than the current of load starting. So it is important to discriminate between the small fault current and the load starting current. The load starting current increases step by step but the fault current increases all at once. So the type of ${\Delta}I$ relay(50F) was developed using the different characteristics between the load starting current and the fault current. As for the load starting current, the time constant of load current at each step is much smaller than that of the fault current. First, to detect faults in DC railway systems, an algorithm using the time constant calculated by the method of least squares is presented in this paper. Secondly, to compose a protection scheme for DC railway systems is presented in this paper.

  • Internet Data Centers (IDC), as essential facilities for modern IT industry, typically have scores of MW of concentrated electric loads. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are necessary for the power feed system of IDCs because of stable power requirement. Thus, conventional AC power feed systems of IDCs have three cascaded power conversion stages such as (AC-DC), (DC-AC), and (AC-DC), which results in very low conversion efficiency. On the contrary, DC power feed systems need just a single power conversion stage (AC-DC) supplying AC mains power to DC server loads, which gives comparatively high conversion efficiency and reliability. This paper compares the efficiencies between 220V AC power feed system and 300V DC power feed system on equal load conditions which were established in Mok-Dong IDC of Korea Telecom company (KT). Experimental results show that the total operation efficiency of the 300V DC power feed system is around 15% higher than that of the 220V AC power feed system.

Reconfigurable Polarization Patch Antenna with Y-Shaped Feed (Y형태의 급전 구조를 이용한 편파 변환 재구성 패치 안테나)

  • In this paper, a reconfigurable polarization patch antenna that uses a Y-shaped feed is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a square patch, a Y-shaped feeding structure, a PIN diode, and a bias circuit for diode operation. The structural symmetry/asymmetry of the feeding structure is determined by the on/off operation of the PIN diode that inserted into the side of one of the lines of the Y-shaped feeding structure. For the proposed reconfigurable antenna, the two microstrip lines of the feeding structure have the same length when the PIN diode operates in the on state, and the antenna exhibits linear polarization(LP). On the other hand, when the PIN diode operates in the off state, the length of one side line of the feeding structure is relatively shorter than that of the other line. Therefore, the antenna exhibits circular polarization(CP). From the measurement results, it is found that the proposed antenna exhibits good impedance matching and axial ratio. In addition, polarization switching can be easily achieved in the same operating band.

An Experimental Study on Operation Setting Optimization of Circuit Breaker for Improving Safety on DC Railroad Feeder System (직류철도 급전계통의 안전성 향상을 위한 차단기 동작 최적 설정의 실험적 고찰)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the optimal settings for the selected DC fault relay (50F) to improve the operating performance for the high-speed circuit breaker on DC feeding system which ensure safety within rolling stock maintenance depot. In this study, current supplied to overhead contact wire was calculated on 1 ms interval to analyze the correction values of DC fault selective relay for the operation of current supply cutout. Particularly, standards for the accurate detection of accidents between an electric railway vehicle and the electric power facilities are shown by investigating the optimal correction values for detection of fault current, and the results indicated that it takes about 213 ms for the DC fault selective relay(50F) to fully open. In the future, the correction values of DC fault selective relay suggested in this paper will be used as the reference values of protective relay for the safe operation of DC electric railroad system such as urban railway.

A Study on the Electromagnetic Modeling and Network Analysis for GTEM Cell Design (GTEM 셀 설계를 위한 전자파 모델링 및 회로망 해석 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic modeling and network analysis are proposed for design of GTEM cell operating from DC to 18 GHz. 3D electromagnetic numerical analysis models composed of the coaxial mode-converter for the feeder of GTEM cell, 5 m expanded rectangular coaxial transmission line, and the resistive termination load for current and field transmitted from the feeder are developed. Equivalent network model of feeder, transmission line, and termination load in the GTEM cell is also proposed, so the return loss of GTEM cell is calculated using S-parameters using the electromagnetic numerical analysis. To verify the proposed design method, the GTEM cell is designed, constructed and tested, with its size of $5{\times}2.5{\times}1.7\;m$ and operating frequency of $DC{\sim}18\;GHz$.

  • In general, Diode rectifier has been applied to DC traction power supply system. Diode has some characteristics which is voltage drop in inverse proportion of load because of non-controlled switch, and cannot flow a current in reverse bias. So, voltage drop occurs frequently, and regenerated power cannot use in substation. The PWM rectifier is able to control output voltage constantly to reduce voltage drop and to use regeneration power without additional inverter. This paper proposes analysis algorithm for DC traction power supply system with PWM rectifier.

  • In this paper, a unified regenerative inverter and control algorithm are proposed in order to perform regenerative action and active power filter action. While the regenerative mode of traction, it works as regenerative inverter to reduce a excessive power of DC bus line and the powering mode of the traction, it works as active power filter to compensate ac current distortion, power factor, and voltage unbalance. In the paper, a regeneration inverter used PWM DC/AC inverter algorithm. And an active power filter used p-q theory. We are carrying out a mode analysis of DC traction system similar to actual system with MG-set and experimenting with prototype model. Through the simulation and experiment, we were proving the regeneration inverter operation which suggested in this paper.

  • This paper presents on capacity design of DC-fed-traction system. The system is introduced including a characteristics of train, feeding network configuration, and design method of substation arrangements. Optimal design procedures is described, and program for capacity computation of the system is presented using the nodal equation, K.C.L, K.V.L, Ohm's law and superposition theory. For the proof of the proposed algorithm, we accomplished the simulation of DC traction system for HA-Nam LRT. By considering whole component in DC traction system the conclusion will be much precise.
