  • This study presents a physical habitat modeling of adult Zacco platypus in a reach of the Dalcheon Stream located downstream of the Goesaan Dam. CASiMiR model is used to estimate habitat suitability index based on the fuzzy logic. Results are compared with those from River2D model, which uses habitat preference curve for habitat suitability index. Hydraulic data simulated by River2D are used as input data for CASiMiR model after verification against field measurements. The result shows that the habitat suitability of the adult Zacco platypus is maximum around the riffle area located upstream of the bend. CASiMiR and River2D estimate the maximum weighted usable areas at the discharge rates of 7.23 $m^3/s$ and 9.0 $m^3/s$, respectively. Overall comparison of the two models employed in this study indicates that CASiMiR model overestimates the weighted usable area by 0.3~25.3% compared with River2D model in condition of drought flow (Q355), low flow (Q275), normal flow (Q185), and average-wet flow (Q95).

  • The limit values of mechanical properties(MPs) of HTPB/AP/Al Solid Propellant was reviewed according to the rocket motor development procedures and the in-process values of MPs were analyzed by the tool of Process Capability Index. Based on finding the dependency among MPs, the optimization is proposed for reducing the properties defects and for improving the rocket grain safeties.

  • The climate of the earth is expected to change rapidly and continuously. Despite climate change is expected to impact on productivity of crop and livestock, a study for adaptation and impact of livestock to global warming is not enough. This study was performed to develop a method to evaluate the effects of heat stress on dairy cattle. Feedlot environment and health status of livestock were measured through an infrared thermography camera and a temperature-humidity sensor. Environmental factors such as temperature and humidity were measured to calculate the Temperature humidity index (THI). The change of the milk yield was similar to THI data pattern, suggesting that THI might play an important role to predict the effect of climate change on dairy cattle. THI data would be useful to predict long-term climate change effects on dairy cattle with RCP8.5 scenario.

  • Owing to the development of computer technologies, to process data derived from various sensors is recently demanding. It is also increasing to demand the moving object based servies like the services of location based and mobile application services. That's why it is needed the processing of visualizing the services for education aspects. In this paper, we show the implemented results about $R^*$ tree algorithm to insert, delete and search a object in two dimension environment.

  • In order to improve national competitiveness through technological research and development, the government puts in R&D budget every year and manages to improve the R&D results. Accordingly, various R&D project management methods have applied for successful advancement of technology and product. TRL is a measurement system developed by NASA to assess the maturity of technology since the 1970s. To apply medical device, the characteristics such as regulation, clinical trials are considered as a significant influence. In this study, we would like to derive PMI(performance measures index) for medical device R&D projects by using TRL and stage-gate model. As a result of this study, it is possible to use the PMI for decision making and evaluation in the R&D projects and believed that the objectivity can be ensured by the approval or certification of regulatory authority.

  • In our study, we extracted the market, finance, and government factors determining R&D investment of individual firms in the IT industry in Korea. We collected the financial data of 515 individual firms belonging to IT and non-IT industries between 1980 and 1999 from the Korea Investors Service's database and investigated the empirical relationship between the factors using an ordinary regression model, a fixed effects model, and a random effects model. The main findings of our study are as follows: i) The Herfindahl Index variable representing the degree of market concentration is statistically insignificant in explaining R&D expenditures in the IT manufacturing industry. ii) Assets, which is used as a proxy variable for firm size, have a positive and statistically significant coefficient. These two results suggest that the Schumpeterian Hypothesis may be only partially applied to the IT manufacturing industry in Korea. iii) The dividend variable has a negative value and is statistically significant, indicating that a tendency of high dividends can restrict the internal cash flow for R&D investment. iv) The sales variable representing growth potential shows a positive coefficient. v) The subsidy as a proxy variable for governmental R&D promotion policies is positively correlated with R&D expenditure. This suggests that government policy has played a significant role in promoting R&D activities of IT firms in Korea since 1980. vi) Using a dummy variable, we verified that firms reduced their R&D investments to secure sufficient liquidity under the restructuring pressure during Korea's 1998 and 1999 economic crisis.

  • The growth and employment effects of R&D investment were analyzed according to business size, export value and manufacturing sectors so as to suggest improvement directions for effective industry policies. The effect of R&D investment was considered simultaneously from the two perspectives of growth and employment effect, and the causality analysis was carried out by using a path analysis. The result of the path analysis confirmed significant differences in the growth effect of R&D investment depending on business size. However, the effect of increasing employment was difficult to obtain statistically significant results for any various combinations of business size and export value. This is a mixture of directions for the effects of R&D investment on employment, which could be due to the failure to consider appropriate time lags between investment and effect. Efficiency analysis by industry sectors confirmed significant differences in efficiency depending on business size, but differences depending on export value were difficult to identify. In order to derive improvement policy by industry sector according to business size and export value, the direction of selective support policy and universal support policy was derived for six industry groups by combining the return to scale in the efficiency analysis and R&D concentration. Hirschman-Herfindahl index is used for calculating R&D concentration.

  • As random access memory chip gets cheaper, it becomes affordable to realize main memory-based database systems. The disk-based spatial indexing techniques, however, cannot direct apply to main memory databases, because the main purpose of disk-based techniques is to reduce the number of disk accesses. In main memory-based indexing techniques, the node access time is much faster than that in disk-based indexing techniques, because all index nodes reside in a main memory. Unlike disk-based index techniques, main memory-based spatial indexing techniques must reduce key comparing time as well as node access time. In this paper, we propose an efficient spatial index structure for main memory-based databases, called Tmr-tree. Tmr-tree integrates the characteristics of R-tree and T-tree. Therefore, Nodes of Tmr-tree consist of several entries for data objects, main memory pointers to left and right child, and three additional fields. First is a MBR of a self node, which tightly encloses all data MBRs (Minimum Bounding Rectangles) in a current node, and second and third are MBRs of left and right sub-tree, respectively. Because Tmr-tree needs not to visit all leaf nodes, in terms of search time, proposed Tmr-tree outperforms R-tree in our experiments. As node size is increased, search time is drastically decreased followed by a gradual increase. However, in terms of insertion time, the performance of Tmr-tree was slightly lower than R-tree.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of xyloologosaccharide (XOS)-sugar mixture on glycemic index (GI) and blood glucose in human subjects. Methods: Randomized double-blind cross-over studies were conducted to examine the effect of sucrose with 14% xyloologosaccharide powder (Xylo 14) and sucrose with 20% xylooligosaccharide powder (Xylo 20) on GI and postprandial glucose response at 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min. Results: GIs of Xylo 14 and Xylo 20 were $60.0{\pm}23.5$ classified within medium GI range, and $54.3{\pm}17.7$ within low GI range, respectively. Xylo 14 and Xylo 20 showed significantly lower area under the glucose curve (AUC) for 0-15 min (p = 0.0113), 0-30 min (p = 0.0004), 0-45 min (p < 0.0001), 0-60 min (p < 0.0001), 0-90 min (p < 0.0001), and 0-120 min (p = 0.0001). In particular, compared with glucose, the blood glucose levels of Xylo 14 and Xylo 20 were significantly lower at every time point between 15 and 120 min. Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that Xylo 14 and Xylo 20 had an acute suppressive effect on GI and the postprandial glucose surge.
