  • This study aims to investigate the effect of handle angles of pliers on performances of task completion time and the number of errors, and subjective ratings of preference. For doing this, an experiment was conducted, where 14 subjects of 11 college-age male and three female students participated. In the experiment, plier handles angled at $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, and $40^{\circ}$ were used as independent variable, and the task completion time and the number of errors, and subjective ratings of preference as dependent variables. The subjects were instructed to do two tasks of bending an iron plate by $90^{\circ}$ and cutting wires. The results revealed that while the performances of task completion time and the number of errors were not statistically different depending upon the handle angles of pliers, the subjective ratings of preference were significantly different. Based on the results, it is recommended that the pliers with handles bent by $20^{\circ}$ be used in real situations.

  • When designing a gerotor, designers determine basic dimensions of a gerotor with transmitted power considering strength, interference and so. on. But, designers can not easily obtain the tooth profile generated by dimensions as well as the geometry bob for cutting the tooth profile. In order to resolve these problems, an automatic design sys-tem creating not only the solid model of a gerotor but also that of the generating hob using the design parameters of dimen-sions is developed. Through the developed system, designers can improve the efficiency of design and satisfy the variable requirements of design as well. In this research, the three-dimensional solid models for gerotors are generated considering the design parameters. Besides, those for generating hob regarding the design parameters of hob is created automatically.

  • The main objective of this project is to define the ultimate bond performance of domestic prestressing strands in the precast prestensioned concrete beams. Eight specimens from four different companies were fabricated and tested in this study. Four-point loading tests were performed on the beams of domestic strands with an arbitrary anchorage length. The research has shown, that all seven specimens except one failed in bond are capable of developing their full flexural capacity and the strands within them are fully anchored even with the sudden transfer of frame cutting. Following results are summarized from the tests conducted. 1) All of the specimens are tested at an embedment lengths much shorter than those required by the ACI code, failed in flexure except one failed in bond. 2) It seems that the beam depth can not be an effective variable to estimate the bond length within these sections and length of specimens on this tests. 3) The development length with the stirrup space which are considered for correction factors in the equations of Russel and Paulsgrove, is fully accurate to determine the required length for the beam tested in this research.

  • In this study, the static and dynamic characteristics of turning process was modelled and the analytic realization of regen-erative chatter mechanism was discussed. In this regard, we have discussed on the comparative assessment of recursive times series modeling algorithms that can represent the machining process and detect the abnormal machining behaviors in precision turning operation. In this study, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the malfunction behaviors. For this purpose, new Recursive Extended Instrument Variable Method(REIVM) was adopted for the on-line system identification and monitoring of a machining process. Also, we can apply REIVE algorithms in real process for the detection of chatter frequency and dynamic property and analyze the stability lobe of the system by changing a parameter of cutting dynamics in regenerative chatter mechanics, if it is stable or unstable, Also, The stability lobe of chatter was analysed.

  • End milling is available for machining the variable shape of products and has brrn widely applied in many Manufacturing industries. The surface finish of machined parts determines quality and functionality of products. Surface roughness causes friction, noise, fracture, glossiness and seizure, so many research had been performed to precisely. In particular an experimental analysis was carried out to investigate the influence ofsurface roughness on the fractal dimension. This parameter was assumed to contain not only information of roughness but also extra meaning. Experiments which were performed under various cutting conditions to compare fractal dimension with surface roughness R /sab a/ show fractal dimension to be useful parameter for determining of roughness.

  • This paper presents experimental results to know the charcteristics of machined surface due to cutter runout. Cutter runout is a common but undesirable phenomenon in multi-tooth machining such as end-milling process because it introduces variable chip loading to insert which results in a accelerated tool wear, amplification of force variation and hence enargement vibration amplitude. To develop in-proess cutter runout compensation system, set-up the micro-positoning mechanism which is based on piezoelectric translator embeded in the work holder to manipulate the depth of cut in real-time. And feasibility test of system was done under the various experimental cutting conditions. This results provide lots of information to build-up the precision machining technology.

  • A methodology which supports the feature used from design to manufacturing for sculptured pocket is newly devlored and present. The information contents in a feature can be easily conveyed from one application to another in the manufacturing domain. However, the feature generated in one application may not be directly suitable for another whitout being modified with more information. Theobjective of the paper is to parsent the methodology of decomposing a bulky feature of sculptured pocket to be removed into compact features to be efficiently machined. In particular, the paper focuses on the two task: 1) to segment horizontally a bulky feature into intermediate features by determining the adequate depth of cut and cutter size and to generate the temporal precedence graph of the intermediate features and 2)to further decompose each intermediate feature vertical into smaller manufacturing features and to apply the variable feed rate to each small feature. The proposed method will provid better efficiency in machining time and cost than the classical method which uses a long string of NC codes necessary to remove a bulky fecture.

  • Many microelectronic devices are miniaturizing the capacitance density and the size of the capacitor. Along with this miniaturization of electronic circuits, tantalum (Ta) capacitors have been on the market due to its large demands worldwide and advantages such as high volumetric efficiency, low temperature coefficient of capacitance, high stability and reliability. During a tantalum capacitor manufacturing process, arc welding has been used to weld base frame and sub frame. This arc welding may have limitations since the downsizing of the weldment depends on the size of welding electrode and the contact time may prevent from improving productivity. Therefore, to solve these problems, this study applies laser spot welding to weld nickel (Ni) and Au-Sn-Ni alloy using CW IR fiber laser with lap joint geometry. All laser parameters are fixed and the only control variable is laser irradiance time. Four different shapes, such as no melting upper workpiece, asymmetric spherical-shaped weldment, symmetric weldment, and, excessive weldment, are observed. This shape may be due to different temperature distribution and flow pattern during the laser spot cutting.

  • The vertical slope of railway track is the differences of attitude for the horizontal distances between two positions of railway. It is better to be small vertical slope for the comfortable of passengers and the operation of railway system. However, the variable vertical slope is required that the simple vertical slope causes the huge quantities of embankment and cutting, the continuous welded rail tunnels, the continuous welded rail bridges, etc,. This research is for the relation between the vertical slopes and the trainset performances. This research shows that the effective vertical slopes for the operation of railway. The velocity of car and operation time and the consumed energy was considered for each vertical slope and type of car power system. The result of suitable vertical slope from this research is to be used for the design of railway plan.
