  • Since fastener bolt for airplane require high specific strength and corrosion resistance, Ti-6Al-4V alloy is widely used. However, the Ti-6Al-4V bolt is generally manufactured by cutting and rolling because of their poor workability. The aim of present work is to develop hot forming technology for high strength Ti-6Al-4V. Various heat-treatments were applied to specimen in order to increase hot-workability and prevent galling with die Multiple forging were simulated with FE code to determine optimum process parameters including specimen temperature, strain rate, local strain, and thermal shrinkage. Forged samples were heat-treated again to increase their mechanical properties.

  • Surface treatments act as a barrier between the environment and the concrete, preventing or retarding the entry of harmful substances and cutting off the transportation path into concrete. The effectiveness of a surface protection preventing the permeation depends on how close and strongly connected are the resin molecules. This work intends to contribute to a better understanding of the performance of protected concrete in chemically aggressive environments, by presenting results of ion diffusion and resistance to aggressive solutions of several hydrophobic agents and coatings used to protect concrete. Three different types of surface protections were tested: silicone hydrophobic agent, acrylic and epoxy coatings. The obtained results indicate that the overall performance of epoxy resin was better than the other selected types of protections.

  • For the determination of stress intensity factors, three methods have been used conventionally; the photoelastic method, the compliance method and the electrical resistance method. These methods, however, have common short coming upon experimental performance; the difficulty of cutting out sharp crack tips and arbitray crack forms similar to the practical one on the specimen. to eliminate this flaw, one of the author previously presented new methods, that is, for the determination of $K_{III}$ mode, the membrane analogy was applied and the slab analogy was used for the determination of $K_{I}$ and $K_{II}$ . The validity of this method was proved through the performance of a series of experiments of which theoretical solution are known.n.n.

  • In order to analyze linear motor driven feed system, preliminary studies have been conducted focusing on the performance evaluation of the system based on the various combination of control gain along with acceleration. Tentative simulation revealed that due to the complexity of control system reduced number of control condition is recommended. Actual machining process with conventional feed system using endmill tool was employed as a preliminary study. Several sensing methods including AE, acceleration sensors and tool dynamometer were used. Results revealed the consistency in AE and cutting resistance. There were inconsistent empirical results in accelerometer probably due to the insensitivity of the sensor signal with respect to the experimental system

  • Generally brittle eta phase produced during TiC deposition has a effect on the TRS (transverse rupture strength ; thoughness). Therefore it is necessary to reduce eta(η), phase for the improvement of tool life. At this experiment some properties (TRS, bonding strength, tool life, eta phase)have been investigated by inserting TiN or TiCN underlayer between TiC layer and substrate. The results obtained were as follows; 1. by inserting underlayer eta phase were decreased and TRS was increased, but the bonding strength was decreased. 2. the diffusion of W, Co from the substrate was hindered by the underlayer. 3. TiC layer with TiCN underlayer had the finsest grain size. 4. by inserting underlayer (TiCN or TiN) the tool life was improved and especially notch and crater wear resistance was greatly improved.

  • This case covers the issues related to the operation problem, cause analysis and improvement cases of the FGD that employed the non-leakage type GGH in coal-fired power plant for the first time in Korea. In the Cooler, there was a main problem that the tube is damaged by the ash cutting due to the high velocity of flue gas in the duct and by the weak wear resistance of material. In the Reheater, there was a main problem that the tube was corroded due to chlorine and sulfur in the circumstance of the low temperature. In order to solve those problems, we have improved the Reheater tube and tube fins by coating enamel to reduce corrosion rate.

  • Taking advantage of the heat inducible HSP82 gene in yeast, chromatin structure after transcription cessation was investigated. Alteration of chromating conformation within the HSP82 gene transcription unit into an active state has been shown to correlate with its transcriptional induction. It was thus of interest to examine whether the active chromatin state within the HSP82 mRNA analysis, the gene ceased its transcription within a few hours of cultivation at a normal condition after heat induction. In this condition, an active chromatin conformation in the HSP82 gene body was changed into an inactie state which was revealed by DNase I resistance and by typical nucleosomal cutting periodicity in the corresponding chromatin. These results thus ruled out the possibility of a long-term maintenance of the DNase I sensitive chromatin after transcription cessation. DNA replication may be a critical event for the chromatin reprogramming.

  • Needs for the new technologies and cutting-edge Ultra Flowing Self-Compacting Concrete are emerging as the concrete structures are becoming bigger and more specialized recently. In North America and Europe, SCC, which has high resistance against flow ability and segregation, is being used as concrete material in applications such as precast and prestressed bridges, where reinforcing bars are overcrowdedly placed. In Korea, SCC has been utilized limitedly in building structures but its utilization should be expanded to engineering structures such as bridges. In this study, for the application in precast and prestressed bridges with overlycrowded reinforcing bars, USCC was mixed with admixtures to give a binary system and a ternary system according to the 1st grade rules by JSCE (Japan Society of Civil Engineers). Compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of the resulting USCCs were tested. Elastic modulus were compared with the values suggested in CEB-FIP code and ACI 318-05.
