The nonlinear differential equations of motion of a fluid conveying curved pipe are derived by use of Hamiltonian approach. The extensible dynamics of curled pipe is based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Some significant differences between linear and nonlinear equations and the dynamic characteristics are discussed. Generally, it can be shown that the natural frequencies in curved pipes are changed with flow velocity. Linearized natural frequencies of nonlinear equations are slightly different from those of linear equations.
In this paper the chaotic out-of-plane vibrations of the uniformly curved pipe with pulsating flow are theoretically investigated. The derived equations of motion contain the effects of nonlinear curvature and torsional coupling. The corresponding nonlinear ordinary differential equation is a type of nonhomogenous Hill's equation . this is transformed into the averaged equation by averaging theorem. Bifurcation curves of chaotic motion are obtained by Melnikov's method and plotted in several cases of frequency ratios. The theoretically obtained results are demonstrated by numerical simulation. And strange attractors are shown.
In blood flow passing through the mechanical heart valve (MHV) and elastic blood vessel, hemolysis and platelet activation causing thrombus formation can be seen owing to the shear stress in the blood. Also, fracture and deformation of leaflets can be observed depending on the shape and material properties of the leaflets which is opened and closed in a cycle. Hence, comprehensive study is needed on the hemodynamics which is associated with the motion of leaflet and elastic blood vessel in terms of fluid-structure interaction. In this paper, a numerical analysis has been performed for a three-dimensional pulsatile blood flow associated with the elastic blood vessel and curved bileaflet for multiple cycles in light of fluid-structure interaction. From this analysis fluttering phenomenon and rebound of the leaflet have been observed and recirculation and regurgitation have been found in the flow fields of the blood. Also, the pressure distribution and the radial displacement of the elastic blood vessel have been obtained. The motion of the leaflet and flow fields of the blood have shown similar tendency compared with the previous experiments carried out in other studies. The present study can contribute to the design methodology for the curved bileaflet mechanical heart valve. Furthermore, the proposed fluid-structure interaction method will be effectively used in various fields where the interaction between fluid flow and structure are involved.
Cutting process has been automated by progress of CNC and CAD/CAM, but polishing process has been depended on only experiential knowledge of expert. To automate the polishing process, a polishing robot with w degrees of freedom which is attached to a machining center with 3 degrees of freedom has been developed. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal on the curved surface of die to improve a performance of polishing. Polishing task for a curved surface die demands repetitive operation and high precision, but conventional control algorithm can not cope with the problem of disturbance such as a change of load. In this research, a new sliding mode control algorithm is applied to the robot. The signal compression method is used to identify polishing robot system. to obtain an effect of 5 degrees of freedom motion, a synchronization between the machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. And also a trajectory for polishing the curved surface die by 5 degrees of freedom motion, a synchronization between the machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. And also a trajectory for polishing the curved surface die by 5 axes machining center is divided into data of two types for 3 axes machining center and 2 axes polishing robot. To evaluate polishing performance of the robot. various experiments are carried out.
Size-dependent free vibration responses and magneto-electro-elastic bending results of a three layers piezomagnetic curved beam rest on Pasternak's foundation are presented in this paper. The governing equations of motion are derived based on first-order shear deformation theory and nonlocal piezo-elasticity theory. The curved beam is containing a nanocore and two piezomagnetic face-sheets. The piezomagnetic layers are imposed to applied electric and magnetic potentials and transverse uniform loadings. The analytical results are presented for simply-supported curved beam to study influence of some parameters on vibration and bending results. The important parameters are spring and shear parameters of foundation, applied electric and magnetic potentials, nonlocal parameter and radius of curvature of curved beam. It is concluded that the increase in radius of curvature tends to an increase in the stiffness of curved beam and consequently natural frequencies increase and bending results decrease. In addition, it is concluded that with increase of nonlocal parameter of curved beam, the stiffness of structure is decreased that leads to decrease of natural frequency and increase of bending results.
This paper proposes a desired trajectory and a control algorithm for a biped robot with curved soles. Firstly, we derived the desired trajectory from a model called the Moving Inverted Pendulum Mode (MIPM) of which a contact point of the foot is moving in the horizontal direction. A biped robot with curved soles is under-actuated system, because it has one contact point with the ground during the single supporting phase. Therefore, to solve the under-actuated problem, we changed control variables, used modified dynamic equations and used the computed torque control. The simulation results show that a biped robot with curved soles walks stably. Also, fast walking and natural motion of a biped robot can be implemented.
In this paper, the forced resonance vibration of porous functionally graded (FG) curved nanobeam is examined. In order to capture the hardening and softening mechanisms of nanostructure, the nonlocal strain gradient theory is employed to build the size-dependent model. Using the Timoshenko beam theory together with the Hamilton principle, the equations of motion for the curved nanobeam are derived. Then, Navier series are used in order to obtain the dynamical deflections of the porous FG curved nanobeam with simply-supported ends. It is found that the resonance position of the nanobeam is very sensitive to the nonlocal and strain gradient parameters, material variation, porosity coefficient, as well as geometrical conditions. The results indicate that the resonance position is postponed by increasing the strain gradient parameter, while the nonlocal parameter has the opposite effect on the results. Furthermore, increasing the opening angle or length-to-thickness ratio will result in resonance position moves to lower-load frequency.
The measurement in the manufacturing process of curved ship hull plates still depends on wooden templates as a standard instrument. The metrology-enabled automation in the shipbuilding process has been challenged instead of line measurement with wooden templates. The developed measurement system consists of a CCD camera, multiple structured laser sources and 3-DOF motion device. The system carries out measurement of curved profiles for large scale plates by an optical triangulation method. The results of experiment conducted in a manufacturing shop demonstrate the accurate and robust performance.
This paper's purpose is to improve determining of the critical response of curved bridge to multi-component seismic motion. There are several methods to combine responses by multi-component excitation response, 30%, 40% rules and square-root-of-sum (SRSS). These combination rules determine same value of critical response in straight bridges. However, each method has critical response value of different magnitude in curved bridges. Thus a study about critical response of curved bridges is required. This paper presents comparison critical responses value as each combination rule, 30%, 40% rules and SRSS on curved bridges with the different radiuses of curvature. This study was carried out by response spectrum analysis of OO IC steel box girder bridge using SAP2000. It is concluded as follows: 1) In curved bridges, 30% and 40% rules tend to underestimate the critical response relatively to SRSS. 2) When bridges have smaller radiuses than 100m, difference between SRSS and 30% or 40% rules let run errors up as radiuses of curvature decreased.

An exact solution based on refined third-order theory (TOT) has been presented for functionally graded porous curved beams having deep curvature. The displacement field of the refined TOT is derived by imposing the shear free conditions at the outer and inner surfaces of curved beams. The properties of the two phase composite are tailored according the power law rule and the effective properties are computed using Mori-Tanaka homogenization scheme. The equations of motion as well as consistent boundary conditions are derived using the Hamilton's principle. The curved beam stiffness coefficients (A, B, D) are obtained numerically using six-point Gauss integration scheme without compromising the accuracy due to deepness (1 + z/R) terms. The porosity has been modeled assuming symmetric (even) as well as asymmetric (uneven) distributions across the cross section of curved beam. The programming has been performed in MATLAB and is validated with the results available in the literature as well as 2D finite element model developed in ABAQUS. The effect of inclusion of 1 + z/R terms is studied for deflection, stresses and natural frequencies for FG curved beams of different radii of curvature. Results presented in this work will be useful for comparison of future studies.
