BIPV system not only produces electricity at building, but also acts as a material for building envelope. Thus, it can increase the economical efficiency of PV system by saving the cost for building materials. Bifacial solar cell can convert solar energy to electrical energy from both sides of the cell. In addition, it is designed as 3 busbar layout which is the same with ordinary mono-facial solar cells. Therefore, many of the module manufacturers can easily use the bifacial solar cells without changing their manufacturing equipments. Moreover, bifacial PV system has much potential in building application by utilizing glass-to-glass structure of PV module. However, the electrical generation of the bifacial PV module depends on the characteristics of the building surface which faces the module, as well as outdoor environment. Therefore, in order to apply the bifacial PV module to building envelope as BIPV system, its power generation characteristics are carefully evaluated. For this purpose this study focused on the electrical performance of the bifacial BIPV system through the comparative outdoor experiments. As a result, the power generation performance of the bifacial BIPV system was improved by up to 21% compared to that of the monofacial BIPV system. Therefore, it is claimed that the bifacial BIPV system can replace the conventional BIPV system to improve the PV power generation in buildings.

Recently, The use of the curtain wall method is increasing in construction. The curtain wall construction is widely applied to the exterior wall of the building for shortening construction period and economical efficiency. However, the replacement of deterioration of the weather resistance and structural behavior of the sealing material connecting the curtain wall method and the glass frame is necessary for introduction of the stable curtain wall method and quality improvement in accordance with KS F 4910 standard. In this study, the elastic restoring force test was performed in the external environment. In this study, the deterioration of the sealant was evaluated for structural sealants. In Korea, studies on the variable displacement behavior of structural sealants are lacked. In this study, the reproduced results in laboratory conditions are compared with the deteriorating conditions exposed to the external environment, and they are reflected in the design of sealing materials in the future. According to the results of the study, it was confirmed that the existing structure sealant meets the quality standard of KS F 4910, but in the conditions performed in this study, adhesion failure of the specimen and cracking of the surface occurred. Especially, in the weather resistance test, it is necessary to evaluate the long-term durability performance of the structural sealant used in the curtain wall method by checking the insoluble state of all the test pieces. Therefore, in order to apply a conventional structural sealant to the site, it is necessary to introduce another durability performance evaluation.

According to the survey results of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in the end of December 2011, the residential buildings was reported as 67.3% of 4,529,464 buildings. Reflected in the national energy policy, the residential building is expected that greater energy savings. To have realized the Passive House Project used the Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete(ALC) material on exterior wall, we take advantage of a very large energy savings. Therefore, this study investigate the patent documents of three major companies, SUMITOMO, CLION, ASAHI KASEI, in Japan. and analyze technical flow and benchmarking patent. As a result, the Sliding method or the Rocking method of ALC panels how to install is to be superior to high-performance drift and safety by a earthquake. And the embedded anchor in panel needs to improve the shape and the strength of bearing. Thus installation technology of the ALC exterior wall investigated in japanese patent documents is expected to the fastening units and anchors.
BIPV is applied to buildings in various forms. However, there are some aspects of consideration in applying PV systems in buildings, such as attaching methods, PV electrical efficiency, appearance and so on. BIPV can be installed on curtain wall spandrel as finishing material, which may combine with insulation. The thermal characteristic of spandrel with BIPV has rarely been studied; the temperature of air space between PV module and insulation layer affects both the electrical behavior of PV module and the energy load in a building. This paper aims to analyse the temperature variation of the layers in BIPV spandrels. In this paper, the temperature of layers, including the air space and PV module, was measured for three different type of BIPV applications on spandrel. The results show that the temperature of air layer for the spandrel with G/G(2) type BIPV module on October was the highest among other months.
This research formulates a closed-form equation to predict a glass panel cracking failure drift for several curtain wall and storefront systems. An evaluation of the ASCE 7-10 equation for Dclear, which is the drift corresponding to glass-to-frame contact, shows that the kinematic modeling assumed for formulation of the equation is sound. The equation proposed in this paper builds on the ASCE equation and offers a revision of that equation to predict drift corresponding to cracking failure by considering glazing characteristics such as glass type, glass panel configuration, and system type. The formulation of the proposed equation and corresponding analyses with the ASCE equation is based on compiled experimental data of twenty-two different glass systems configurations tested over the past decade. A final comparative analysis between the ASCE equation and the proposed equation shows that the latter can predict the drift corresponding to glass cracking failure more accurately.
In this article, the author carried out a theoretical study on the application techniques of a new Combined Passive Solar System (hereinafter referred to as the CPSS) of direct gain and trombe walls to get quick morning heating and to prevent afternoon overheating for office building. The numerical model proposed in this study can be used for the performance analysis of the CPSS in the winter and summer. Heating and Cooling loads are analysed for building energy consumption reduction using this numerical model. The results indicate that CPSS in the winter and summer modes could provide profitable conditions for improvement of indoor thermal comfort control and energy saving. consequently, the application of CPSS will not lead to significant reductions in the auxiliary air conditioning demand but also realize the environmentally friendly building.

Purpose: It is important to plan the ward module at a time when the size of beds, the floor area, and the construction budget are all set prior to the hospital design. In this context this study aims (1) to derive various factors affecting the ward module, and (2) to analyze the appropriate room module according to the type. Methods: Design factors related to hospital modules are derived through precedential studies, and the types of ward elevation are classified by reviewing the drawings of 18 case hospitals. And the detailed dimensions and area of the derived elements are analyzed. Results: The X-axis modules of the ward are switched to long span structural columns of 9.9 m, 12.6 m and 13.2 m, but the ward modules still represent 6.6 m. The Y-axis module of the ward shows a dimension of 9 to 9.9m in the process of changing a multi-person room into a four-person room. Type A of curtain wall with columns located on the wall of the room and type B of curtain wall located in the center of the room are analyzed due to their variations. The square window type, which forms the elevation of the square window by exposing the columns to the elevation, and the outframe type, which protrudes from the structural columns and beams, have elevation designs limited. There are, however, no obstacles to the interior space of the hospital room, so the wall composition and furniture arrangement are expected to be free. The ward area of Curtain Wall Type A, which can secure an effective area of 5.9m*5.0m, are 52.1m2. The Curtain Wall Type A, Square window type, and the outframe type are 49.8m2. Implications: As part of the hospital standard module plan for economical and reasonable hospital building planning, a type was proposed in this study in conjunction with the external design. It is hoped that it be a base for standard module research linked together to the Central Treatment department, Outpatient department and underground parking lot.

With the advent of cutting-edge technology, renewable energy is significantly considered as alternative resources to supply electric power. However, many barriers such as energy intermittency, high initial installation cost, and low-efficiency generation challenged building new infrastructure with clean energy. Efforts reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels resulted in the decentralization of power generation like distributed energy resource (DER). This paper is to introduce and evaluate the feasibility of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) in a high-rise building in Ulsan. To optimize BIPV, a variety of methods to minimize efficiency decrease and maximize electric power generation after installing BIPV on the building's facade are suggested. The variables causing power losses are analyzed. By utilizing System Advisor Model (SAM), actual power generated from solar panels is measured by Thin-film PV, Mono-crystalline PV, and Poly-crystalline PV.

This study is to evaluate the thermal insulation of the curtain wall of the buildings constructed since the 1990s to the buildings currently under construction in 2011 and to provide the basic data for repairing and reinforcing and designing the thermal insulation. To this effect, the temperature difference by part was analyzed through measuring the inside and outside surface temperature of the curtain wall of the office building, and thereafter, the conditions of the thermal insulation and the thermal bridge part were examined. The result of the study is as follows; Not only in the winter season when the temperature difference between the indoor-outdoor is over $20^{\circ}C$, but also in the summer season when there is a small temperature difference, the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the frame is $2^{\circ}C{\sim}4^{\circ}C$ equally. Under such conditions as stated above, the thermal bridge occurred, which resulted from the heat flow of the steel frame part (mullion, transom), and therefore, the reinforcement of the thermal insulation is considered to be needed.
