  • Discrete wavelet transforms are extensively preferred in biomedical signal processing for denoising, feature extraction, and compression. This paper presents a new denoising method based on the modeling of discrete wavelet coefficients of ECG in selected sub-bands with Kernel density estimation. The modeling provides a statistical distribution of information and noise. A Gaussian kernel with bounded support is used for modeling sub-band coefficients and thresholds and is estimated by placing a sliding window on a normalized cumulative density function. We evaluated this approach on offline noisy ECG records from the Cardiovascular Research Centre of the University of Glasgow and on records from the MIT-BIH Arrythmia database. Results show that our proposed technique has a more reliable physical basis and provides improvement in the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and Percentage RMS Difference (PRD). The morphological information of ECG signals is found to be unaffected after employing denoising. This is quantified by calculating the mean square error between the feature vectors of original and denoised signal. MSE values are less than 0.05 for most of the cases.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive contrast control method for the flat real-time processing. The proposed method has employed probability density function(PDF) in order to control a sudden change in image-brightness. In addition, the proposed algerian obtains the maximum contrast without affecting the processed image. In order to reduce hardware complexity, we have utilized approximated CDF based on sampling values. Visual test and standard deviation of their histogram have been introduced to evaluate the resultant output images of at: proposed method and the original ones.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the contrast control method using brightness preserving on the FPD(Flat Panel Display). The proposed algorithms consist of three blocks: the contrast enhancement, the white-level-expander, and the black-level-expander. The proposed method has employed probability density function in order to control the brightness of the image changed extremely. In order for real-time processing, we have calculated cumulative density function using the linear approximation method. The image histogram and image quality were compared with the conventional image enhancement algorithms. The proposed methods have been used in display devices that need image enhancement such as LCD TV, PDP, and FPD.

  • An effective live load model for analyzing probable maximum live load effects such as moment and shear in transverse direction was developed. The main procedure of this live load model is composed of four parts, i.e., firstly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in longitudinal direction, secondly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in longitudinal direction, thirdly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in transverse direction, and fourthly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in transverse direction. Through this procedure, the probabilistic distributions of maximum probable load effects are deduced in the form of probability density function (PDF) and/or cumulative density function(CDF). This live load model is able to consider local or global deterioration of bridges in the structural analysis.

Besides, load effects can be determined at any section without restrictions.

  • We present a theoretical formalism by which the global and the local mass functions of dark matter substructures (dark subhalos) can be analytically estimated. The global subhalo mass function is defined to give the total number density of dark subhalos in the universe as a function of mass, while the local subhalo mass function counts only those sub halos included in one individual host halo. We develop our formalism by modifying the Press-Schechter theory to incorporate the followings: (i) the internal structure of dark halos; (ii) the correlations between the halos and the subhalos; (iii) the subhalo mass-loss effect driven by the tidal forces. We find that the resulting (cumulative) subhalo mass function is close to a power law with the slope of ${\~}$ -1, that the subhalos contribute approximately $10\%$ of the total mass, and that the tidal stripping effect changes the subhalo mass function self-similarly, all consistent with recent numerical detections.

  • The data of city gas accidents has been collected and analysed for not only predictions of the fire and explosion accidents but also the criteria of societal risk. The accidents of the recent 11 years have been broken up into such 3 groups roughly as "release", "explosion", "fire" d 16 groups in detail. Owing to the Poisson probability distribution functions, 'careless work-explosion-pipeline' and 'joint loosening & erosion-release-pipeline' items respectively have turned out to record the lowest and most frequency among the recent 11-years accidents. And thus the proper counteractions must be carried out. In order to assess the societal risks tendency of the fatal gas accidents and set the more obvious safety policies up, the D. O. Hogon equation and the regression method has been used to range the acceptable range in the F-N curve of the cumulative casualties. The further works requires setting up successive database on the fire and explosion accidents systematically to obtain reliable analyses. Also the standard codification will be demanded.

  • This paper describes a probabilistic remaining life assessment program for the creep crack growth. The probabilistic life assessment program is developed to increase the reliability of life assessment. The probabilistic life assessment involves some uncertainties, such as, initial crack size, material properties, and loading condition, and a triangle distribution function is used for random variable generation. The resulting information provides the engineer with an assessment of the probability of structural failure as a function of operating time given the uncertainties in the input data. This study forms basis of the probabilistic life assessment technique and will be extended to other damage mechanisms.

  • In this paper, we introduce the exponentiated Weibull-geometric (EWG) distribution which generalizes two-parameter exponentiated Weibull (EW) distribution introduced by Mudholkar et al. (1995). This proposed distribution is obtained by compounding the exponentiated Weibull with geometric distribution. We derive its cumulative distribution function (CDF), hazard function and the density of the order statistics and calculate expressions for its moments and the moments of the order statistics. The hazard function of the EWG distribution can be decreasing, increasing or bathtub-shaped among others. Also, we give expressions for the Renyi and Shannon entropies. The maximum likelihood estimation is obtained by using EM-algorithm (Dempster et al., 1977; McLachlan and Krishnan, 1997). We can obtain the Bayesian estimation by using Gibbs sampler with Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. Also, we give application with real data set to show the flexibility of the EWG distribution. Finally, summary and discussion are mentioned.
