As the resolution of the image display devices has been diversified, the image interpolation methods has played a more important role. The cubic convolution interpolation method has been widely used because it is simple but it has no limitation of using and a good performance. This paper suggests an adaptive method to the cubic convolution interpolation. Considering the difference of the neighbored pixels values to a prediction pixel, a parameter value in the cubic convolution interpolation kernel is chosen.
The purpose of this paper is an adaptive image interpolation using parametric cubic convolution. Proposed method derive parameter of adapting the frequency from adjacent values. The parameter optimize the interpolation kernel of cubic convolution. Simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to the conventional method in terms of the subjective and objective image quality.
We employ the so-called problem-dependent linked interpolation concept to develop two cubic 4-node quadrilateral plate finite elements with 12 external degrees of freedom that pass the constant bending patch test for arbitrary node positions of which the second element has five additional internal degrees of freedom to get polynomial completeness of the cubic form. The new elements are compared to the existing linked-interpolation quadratic and nine-node cubic elements presented by the author earlier and to the other elements from literature that use the cubic linked interpolation by testing them on several benchmark examples.
In this paper, we propose a modified cubic convolution interpolation for the enlargement or reduction of digital images using a pixel difference value. The proposed method has a low complexity: the number of multiplier of weighted value to calculate one pixel of a scaled image has seven less than that of cubic convolution interpolation has sixteen. We use the linear function of the cubic convolution and the difference pixel value for selecting interpolation methods. The proposed method is compared with the conventional one for the computational complexity and the image quality. The simulation results show that the proposed method has less computational complexity than one of the cubic convolution interpolation.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of sampling frequency on the photoplethysmography (PPG) and to evaluate the performance of interpolation methods for under-sampled PPG. We generated down-sampled PPG using 10 kHz-sampled PPG then evaluated waveshape changes with correlation coefficient. Correlation coefficient was significantly decreased at 50 Hz or below sampling frequency. We interpolated the down-sampled PPG using four interpolation method-linear, nearest, cubic spline and piecewise cubic Hermitt interpolation polynomial - then evaluated interpolation performance. As a result, it was shown that PPG waveform that was sampled over 20 Hz could be reconstructed by interpolation. Among interpolation methods, cubic spline interpolation showed the highest performance. However, every interpolation method has no or less effect on 5 Hz sampled PPG.

H.264 suggests applying a 2-D 6-tap wiener filter to realize the interpolation for half-pixel positions, followed by a bilinear interpolation to get the data of quarter-pixels precision. This method is comparatively simpler; however, it only considers the affection of 4-connection neighborhood ignoring the influence that comes from the changing rate between respective neighborhoods. As a result, it has the characteristics of a Low-pass filter under the risk of losing high-frequency weights. The Cubic interpolation uses the gray-values within the larger regions of points to be sampled for interpolation. Nevertheless, the cubic interpolation is more complicated and computational. We give a deep analysis on the features while applying both bilinear and cubic interpolation in H.264 presenting a proper selection of interpolation algorithm with respect to specific distribution of gray-value in a certain grand block. The experiments point out that load far motion searching and interpolation are reduced when promoting the precision of interpolation simultaneously.

An adaptive optimization of parametric cubic convolution for image interpolation is derived in this paper. The proposed technique is based on optimizing the standard cubic convolution interpolation formula at each interpolated pixel. Conventional parametric cubic convolution methods use a fixed parameter in an image, so properties of each pixel cannot be incorporated into the interpolation. The proposed method optimizes the interpolation kernel by obtaining parameters adaptively on each pixel. A new cost function is introduced to reflect frequency properties of the original data. The proposed technique produces noticeably sharper edges than traditional techniques and exhibits an average PSNR improvement of traditional techniques.

As higher quality of image is required for digital image scaling, longer processing time is required. Therefore the technology that can make higher quality image quickly is needed. We propose the double linear-cubic convolution interpolation which creates the high quality image with low complexity and hardware resources. The proposed interpolation methods which are made up of four one-dimensional linear interpolations and one one-dimensional cubic convolution perform linear-cubic convolution interpolation in horizontal and vertical direction. When compared in aspects of peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR), performance time and amount of hardware resources, the proposed interpolation provided better PSNR, low complexity and less hardware resources than bicubic convolution interpolation.

ELM, a characteristic line based method, was applied to advection-dispersion equation, and the results obtained were compared with those of Eulerian schemes(Stone-Brian and QUICKEST). The calculation methods consisted of Lagrangian interpolation scheme and cubic spline interpolation scheme for the advection calculation, and the Crank-Nicholson scheme for the dispersion calculation. The results of numerical methods were as follows: (1) for Gaussian hill: ELM, using Lagrangian interpolation scheme, gave the most accurate computational result, ELM, using cubic spline interpolation scheme, and QUICKEST scheme gave numerical damping for Peclet number 50. Stone-Brian scheme gave phase shift introduced in the numerical solution for Peclet number 10 and 50. (2) for advanced front: All schemes gave accurate computational results for Peclet number 1 and 4. ELM, Lagrangian interpolation scheme, and Stone,Brian scheme gave dissipation error and ELM, using cubic spline interpolation scheme, and QUICKEST scheme gave numerical oscillation for Peclet number 50.
