Spectrophotometric and Electrochemical Study of Cu2+-Selective Azocalix[4]arene Bearing p-Carboxyl group

  • The spectrophotometric and electrochemical properties of tetraazo(p-carboxy)phenylcalix[4]arene (p-CAC) in the presence of various metal ions were investigated by UV/Vis spectroscopy and voltammetry in $CH_3CN$. p-CAC showed selective color changes to $Cu^{2+}$ over other metal ions from light orange to colorless, in accordance with hypsochromic shift in UV/Vis spectra. Voltammetric measurements also showed high selectivity for $Cu^{2+}$.

  • An ion implanter, which can serve as a metal-ion supply, has been constructed and performance tested. Copper ions are generated and extracted from a Bernas ion source with a heating crucible that provides feed gases to sustain the plasma. Sable arc plasmas can be sustained in the ion source for a crucible temperature in excess of $350^{\circ}C$. Stable extraction of the ions is possible for arc Currents less than 0.3 A. Arc currents increase with the induced power of a block cathode and the transverse field in the ion source. $Cu^+$ ions in the extracted beam are separated using a dipole magnet. A $20{\mu}A$ $Cu^+$ ion current can be extracted with a 0.2 A arc current. The ion current can support a dose of $10^{16}ions/cm^2$ over an area of $15\;cm^2$ within a few hours.

  • A new rhodamine B-coumarin conjugate (1) capable of recognizing both $Cu^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ using two different detection modes have been designed and synthesized. The metal ion induced optical changes of 1 were investigated in $CH_3CN-H_2O$ (1:1, v/v, HEPES 50 mM, pH = 7.0) solution. Sensor 1 exhibits selective colorimetric recognition of $Cu^{2+}$ and fluorescent recognition of $Fe^{3+}$ with UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. Moreover, both of the $Cu^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ recognition processes are observed to be barely interfered by other coexisting metal ions.

  • A carbazole-based Schiff base CB2 was synthesized and applied as a highly selective and sensitive fluorescent probe for $Cu^{2+}$ in $H_2O$-DMSO (8/2, v/v, pH = 7.4) solution. CB2 exhibits an excellent selectivity to $Cu^{2+}$ over other examined metal ions with a prominent fluorescence "turn-on" at 475 nm. CB2 and $Cu^{2+}$ forms a 1:2 binding ratio complex with detection limit of $9.5{\mu}M$. In addition, the $Cu^{2+}$ recognition process is hardly interfered by other examined metal ions.

Oxygen reduction reaction and electrochemical properties of transition metal doped (Pr,Ba)Co2O5+𝛿

  • Transition metal (Me = Cu, Fe, Ni) doped (Pr, Ba)Co2O5+𝛿 (PBCO) material were investigated in terms of electronic structure change and electrochemical properties. It was confirmed that (Pr, Ba)(Co, Cu)O5+𝛿 (PBCCu) and (Pr, Ba)(Co, Fe)O5+𝛿 (PBCFe) showed cubic and orthorhombic structures, respectively, but (Pr, Ba)(Co, Ni)O5+𝛿 (PBCNi) showed secondary phases. PBCCu has an average particle diameter of 1093 nm, and PBCO and PBCFe have an average particle diameter of 495.1 nm and 728 nm, respectively. The average oxidation values of B site ions in PBCMe were calculated to be 3.26 (PBCO), 2.48 (PBCCu), 3.32 (PBCFe), and valence band maximum (VBM) was -0.42 eV (PBCO), -0.58 eV (PBCCu), -0.11 eV (PBCFe). It is expected that PBCCu easily interacts with adsorbed oxygen due to the lowest oxidation value and the highest VBM. The polarization resistance was 0.91 Ω cm2 (PBCO), 0.77 Ω cm2 (PBCCu), 1.06 Ω cm2 (PBCFe) at 600℃, showing the lowest polarization resistance of PBCCu.

  • A sensitive and selective determination method of Fe(II) ion by luminol-H2O2 system using a chelating reagent has been presented. A metal ion-chelating ligand complex such as Fe(II)-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) produced higher chemiluminescence (CL) intensity as well as longer lifetime in luminol-H2O2 system than metal exist as free ions. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of Cu(II) and Pb (II) complexes with chelating reagents in luminol-H2O2 system was lost since chelating reagents act as a masking agent although free Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions have high catalytic activity. On the optimized conditions, the calibration curve of Fe(II) ion was linear over the range from 1.0×10-7 to 2.0×10-5 M with correlation coefficient of 0.996. The detection limit was calculated to be 4.0×10-8 M.

  • 주요성분이 Sn(93.0 %)-Ag(3.26 %)-Cu(0.89 %)로 구성되는 SAC 폐무연솔더로부터 주석과 은을 회수하기 위한 전기화학적인 방법을 연구하였다. 폐무연솔더의 건식용해, 주조를 통해 제조한 작업전극을 사용하여 분극거동 조사와 정전류 전해용해를 실시하였다. 분극시험 시 활성화영역의 산화전류피크는 전해액의 황산 농도가 높아질수록 감소하였으며, 1 molL-1 황산농도가 전해용해를 위해 가장 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 정전류 용해 시 전극표면의 부동태층인 양극슬라임이 두꺼워짐에 따라 전극전위가 지속적으로 높아졌으며, 10 mAcm-2에서 25시간동안 지속적인 전해용해가 가능한 반면 50 mAcm-2에서는 2.5 시간 이후부터 전극전위가 급상승하여 전해용해반응이 중단되었다. 정전류 전해용해 시 은은 양극슬라임에 농축되었으며, 전해액내 염소이온의 농도가 0.3 molL-1인 경우 농축율이 미첨가 조건보다 12.7% 높은 94.3%를 나타내었다. 또한 염소이온의 첨가에 의해 전해액내 주석이온의 안정성을 높이고 주석의 전착전류효율을 향상시킬 수 있었다.

Investigating the Au-Cu thick layers Electrodeposition Rate with Pulsed Current by Optimization of the Operation Condition

  • The impact of effective parameters on the electrodeposition rate optimization of Au-Cu alloy at high thicknesses on the silver substrate was investigated in the present study. After ensuring the formation of gold alloy deposits with the desired and standard percentage of gold with the cartage of 18K and other standard karats that should be observed in the manufacturing of the gold and jewelry artifacts, comparing the rate of gold-copper deposition by direct and pulsed current was done. The rate of deposition with pulse current was significantly higher than direct current. In this process, the duty cycle parameter was effectively optimized by the "one factor at a time" method to achieve maximum deposition rate. Particular parameters in this work were direct and pulse current densities, bath temperature, concentration of gold and cyanide ions in electrolyte, pH, agitation and wetting agent additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface chemical analysis system (EDS) were used to study the effect of deposition on the cross-sections of the formed layers. The results revealed that the Au-Cu alloy layer formed with concentrations of 6gr·L-1 Au, 55gr·L-1 Cu, 24 gr·L-1 KCN and 1 ml·L-1 Lauryl dimethyl amine oxide (LDAO) in the 0.6 mA·cm-2 average current density and 30% duty cycle, had 0.841 ㎛·min-1 Which was the highest deposition rate. The use of electrodeposition of pure and alloy gold thick layers as a production method can reduce the use of gold metal in the production of hallow gold artifacts, create sophisticated and unique models, and diversify production by maintaining standard karats, hardness, thickness and mechanical strength. This will not only make the process economical, it will also provide significant added value to the gold artifacts. By pulsating of currents and increasing the duty cycle means reducing the pulse off-time, and if the pulse off-time becomes too short, the electric double layer would not have sufficient growth time, and its thickness decreases. These results show the effect of pulsed current on increasing the electrodeposition rate of Au-Cu alloy confirming the previous studies on the effect of pulsed current on increasing the deposition rate of Au-Cu alloy.

  • 평균분자량이 $8.2{\times}10^5$, 탈아세틸화도가 85%인 키토산을 2 wt % 초산 수용액에 용해시킨 후 졸-겔법에 의해 키토산 비드를 제조하였다. 졸-겔법에 의해 제조된 키토산 비드는 SEM 사진과, BET 측정으로 다공성임을 확인할 수 있었다. 다공성 키토산 비드에 의한 $Cu^{2+}$의 흡착평형은 Sips식으로 잘 묘사할 수 있었으며, 키토산 비드 내부에서의 확산과정은 세공 및 표면확산 기구로 설명할 수 있었다. 고정층에서 $Cu^{2+}$의 흡착거동은 linear driving force approximation (LDFA)으로 잘 묘사할 수 있었으며, 본 연구에 사용된 다공성 키토산 비드는 $Cu^{2+}$을 회수하는데 우수한 흡착제임을 확인할 수 있었다.

Hg2+-Selective Chemosensor Derived from 8-Hydroxyquinoline Having Benzothiazole Function in Aqueous Environment

  • Newly synthesized 8-hydroxyquinoline based benzothiazole derivative 2 showed a distinctive $Hg^{2+}$-selectivity over other transition metal ions in aqueous solution. The fluorescence emission at 455 nm of 2 was completely quenched upon interaction with $Hg^{2+}$ ions in dioxane-$H_2O$ system (9 : 1, v/v). The selectivity was decreased in the order of $Hg^{2+}\;>>\;Cu^{2+}\;>\;Cd^{2+}\;>\;Pb^{2+}\;{\thickapprox}\;Zn^{2+}\;{\thickapprox}\;Ni^{2+},\;and\;Hg^{2+}$ concentration dependent fluorescence quenching profile was observed in the presence of common interfering metal ions as background. The fluorescence behavior of 2 suggests that the prepared compound could be used as a fluorescent signaling subunit for the construction of new $Hg^{2+}$-sensitive ON-OFF type supramolecular switching systems.
