This research examines the historic preservation of Korean modern architecture by applying Kenneth Frampton(1930-)'s concept of critical regionalism. It explores the representative Korean modern architect Gil-ryong Park (1898-1943) and two of his buildings: the Hwashin Department Store (1935) and the No-soo Park house (1937-1938). The former was in the hot spot on the preservation. There were plans to preserve this building but that it ended up being demolished in 1987. The latter building, however, has been preserved and is currently being used as a museum. These two Korean modern buildings are explored through the frame of Kenneth Frampton's critical regionalism, in particular focusing on three important concepts: "dialectical expression," "place-form," and "sustainability." In this sense, this research will provide pioneering research in understanding the preservation of Korean modern architecture through a representative Western modern theory. In the early $20^{th}$ century, Korean modern architecture, which was built during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945), could be interpreted as critical regionalism because it represented a dialog between the West and the East, in particular between Western modernism, Japanese modernity, and Korean tradition in the East Asian context. Understanding Korean modernism in this context of a cross-cultural perspective enables scholars to define both the origins and uniqueness of Korean modern architecture.
Purpose: This study examines the impact of YouTube mukbang content characteristics on viewer satisfaction and word-of-mouth behavior. Drawing from theories in media psychology, consumer behavior, and communication studies, we investigate five key content characteristics: credibility, entertainment value, informativeness, visual appeal, and auditory quality. Research design, data and methodology: Using structural equation modeling with data from 206 mukbang viewers, we test hypothesized relationships between these characteristics, viewer satisfaction, and word-of-mouth behavior. Results: Research reveal that credibility and informativeness significantly and positively influence viewer satisfaction, while entertainment value, visual appeal, and auditory quality show no significant effect. Viewer satisfaction positively impacts word-of-mouth behavior. These findings challenge conventional assumptions about video content consumption and highlight the unique nature of mukbang viewing. Conclusions: The study contributes to digital content consumption literature by providing empirical evidence of factors influencing viewer engagement in the mukbang context. It offers practical insights for content creators, marketers, and platform developers, emphasizing the importance of informative and credible content in driving viewer satisfaction and promoting positive word-of-mouth. By extending established media theories to this emerging form of digital entertainment, our research paves the way for future studies. The study's limitations, including its cross-sectional nature and specific cultural context, suggest directions for future research.

Previous research reported that body size measured as Body Mass Index (BMI) and body shape measured as waist-hip-ratio (WHR) are two essential factors that form the perceptions of body attractiveness. However, the debate on the importance of BMI versus WHR is ongoing. In addition, scholarly articles, that focus on the role of geographic and cultural variability on perceptions of attractiveness, report inconsistent results. Some suggested that according to globalization and the rise of mass media, geographic variability of perceptions of attractiveness have been altered, while others believed that it remains. This study cross-regionally investigates the role of body size and body shape on the perceptions of female attractiveness. Samples were composed of 107 female college students in Alabama and 107 female college students in California. Participants viewed 27 three-dimensional body scan images of women in three body shapes (pear, hourglass, and rectangle) and three body sizes (underweight, normal weight, and overweight) and rated their perceptions of attractiveness. Images were shown to students in a random order with an overhead projector and Microsoft Office PowerPoint software. A three-way mixed-ANOVA was conducted to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that some regional differences exist between the two sample groups. However, regardless of the regional difference, hourglass shapes were perceived to be the most attractive shape and underweight sizes were perceived to be the most attractive size for both samples.
Dolmens bearing the burial layout and stone coffin tombs of the late Bronze Age were excavated from Samdeok-ri, Goseong, Gyeonsangnsamdo, and grave items such as red-burnished pottery, arrowheads, and stone swords were also discovered. In the case of the red-burnished pottery that was found, it retains a pigment layer with a thickness of about 50 to 160㎛, but with most of the other items, exfoliation and peeling-off of pigment layers can be observed on the surface. The raw materials of the red-burnished pottery contained moderately sorted minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and hornblende, and partly opaque iron oxide minerals were also identified. In particular, the raw materials of the red-burnished pottery from stone coffin tomb #6 were different from those of the other pottery, containing large amounts of hornblende and feldspar. The pottery's red pigment was identified as hematite and showed similar mineral content of raw materials such as fine grained quartz, feldspar, and hornblende. The firing temperature is estimated to have been approximately 900℃, based on their mineral phase. The possibility exists that the raw materials had been collected from the Samdeok-ri area, because diorite and granite diorite with dominant feldspar and hornblende have been identified within 3km of that area. During the pottery manufacturing process, it is estimated that the pigment was painted on the entire surface of the red-burnished pottery after it had been molded and then finished using the abrasion technique. In other words, the red-burnished pottery was made by the process of vessel forming - semi drying - coloring - polishing. The surface and cross-section of the pottery appears differently depending on the concentration of the pigment and the coloring method used after vessels were formed. Most of the excavated pottery features a distinct boundary between pigment and body fabric. However, in the case of pottery in which fine-grained pigments penetrate the body fabric so that layers cannot be distinguished, there is the possibility that the fine-grained pigment layer was applied at a low concentration or immediately after vessel forming. Many cracks can be seen on the surface pigments in thickly painted pottery items, and in many cases, only a small portion of the pigment layers remain due to surface exfoliation and abrasion in the burial environment. It is reported that pottery items may be more easily damaged by abrasion if coated with pigment and polished, so it is believed that the red-burnished pottery of the Samdeok-ri site suffered from weathering in the burial environment. This damage was more extensive in the potsherds that were scattered outside the tomb.
The great jar estimated in Proto-Three Kingdoms period was found at the site from Pyeongtaek Daechuri and the bonding traces from pieces destroyed when they were excavated are observed. Therefore this study would figure out the components of bonding material used in great jars by optical microscope, FT-IR, py-GC/MS and the kind of textile attaching to great jar by transmitted light microscope. As a result of optical microscope for the cross-section, black material is uniformly applied between a piece of jar and the part of bonding and the textile line are observed. Black bonding material is resulted in korean rhus lacquer by FT-IR and py-GC/MS and the kind of textile is identified as hemp by transmitted light microscope. Materials for repairing archaeological objects are hardly known causing little information, but this study proves that the bonding material had used lacquer for great jars before Proto-Three Kingdoms period. Therefore if ancient bonding materials are systematically analysed in the further studies, it would be significant help for studying bonding and restoration materials of ancient objects.

Comparative studies on the quality of life, a new research specialization,have emerged only in recent years and are experiencing vigorous development in many parts of the world This study is a two year phasing-in project carried out by a jointed research team between Seoul National University and Tokyo University. As the first study of the project series, the aim of the study is to learn how different the quality of life(QOL) between Seoul and Tokyo and how the students of both cities assign the relative weights to parameters of the quality of life in their cities. The study also attempts to illustrate the current state of the art in this new field. Seoul and Tokyo are located very closely bur their physical, socia-economic and cultural aspects are not the same but rather different. Here is our interest and the reason why we started out study. The study is divided into the following two principal parts: (1 ) The survey of the variables influencing the puality of life in Seoul and Tokyo (2) The survey of the attitude of students towards the relative importance of parameter of the quality of life in Seoul and Tokyo. The researches of the variables were carried out utilizing the existing official statistics derived from 1988 Seout Statistical Year Book and 1987 Tokyo Statistical Year Book. Therefore, the choice of indicators was largely limited to data that had been compiled in two yearbooks. The attitude surveys of students were carried out by interview. The questionnaire consists of a face sheet and a question which is designed to produce information on the relative importance of the parameters by the paired comparison method.
The purpose of this study was to explore the implicit knowledge of creative person in Korea, China and Japan. To this end, participants of all ages in three countries (Korean 328, Chinese 388, Japanese 394) were required to fill out the survey about creative persons. The major results of this study were as follows: First, Korean and Japanese recognized most the characteristics of creative person as "original" at all ages, Chinese recognized as "intellectual" in most ages. Second, occupations of creative persons were classified into nine categories. Third, in Korea scientist and artist, in China politician, in Japan artist were the occupations of the highest frequency at all ages. These results of this study can be used as a basis for the research of implicit knowledge on creativity in East Asian countries. This study suggests that the implicit knowledge about creative person differs in three countries and cultural characteristics of each country should be considered in the study of creativity.
A convergence research was conducted on glass beads excavated at the ruins of Hapgang-ri, Sejong, using the archeology and conservation approach. The period of appearance of Jugu Towangmyo in the ruins of Hapgang-ri can be estimated to begin in the late 2nd century; for Jugu Towangmyo No. 15, the period spans from the late 2nd to early 3rd century. Form, color, and manufacturing techniques of complete glass beads were examined, and the cross-sections and chemical composition of 16 samples were observed. Based on these analyses, the glass beads were divided into blue, purple, and red colors. The blue-colored beads could be further sub-divided based on their gloss and brightness; in contrast, the red-colored beads were highly uniform with regard to these parameters. Based on the stripe and bubble arrangement on the surface of the glass beads, their drawing technique was identified. Traces of heat treatment or polishing were observed at the ends of the beads. According to their chemical composition, the 16 samples were classified into 3 potash glass and 13 soda glass groups; in the latter, the properties of the stabilizers were divided according to the blue and red bead colors. The stabilizers of the red beads are unique in that they allow the distinction among beads excavated in other areas in South Korea owing to their compositional differences. Colorants in blue- and red-colored beads are cobalt (containing MnO), and copper and iron, respectively.
The host rock of standing sculptured Buddha in the Yongamsa temple was macular biotite granite, which has gone through mechanical and chemical weathering. The principal rock-forming minerals are quartz, plagioclase, alkali feldspar, and biotite, the last two of which have been transformed into clay minerals and chlorite due to weathering processes. The bed rock around the Buddha statue is busily scattered with steep inclinations that are almost vertical and discontinuous planes with the strikes of $N8^{\circ}E$. The major joints have the strikes of N4 to $52^{\circ}W$ and N6 to $88^{\circ}E$ and the dips of 42 to $89^{\circ}$. Especially thee development of the joints that cross the major joints causes tile structural instability of the rock. The host rock of the Buddha image is separated into many different rock masses because of the also many different discontinuity, which group accounts for about $12{\%}$ of the rock. Thus it's estimated that the bed rock has not only plane and toppling failure but also wedge failure in all the sides. Since the earth pressure and the inclination pressure are imposed on the body of the Buddha in the basement rock, it's urgent to give a treatment of geotechnical engineering for the sake of its structural stability. The parts where serious fractures are seen should receive the hardening process using the fillers for stones. It's also necessary to introduce a landfill liner system in order to reduce the ground humidity. The rock surface of the Buddha statue are partly contaminated by lichens and bryophyte. The joints have turned into earth, which promotes the growth of weeds and plant roots. Thus biochemical treatments should also be considered to get rid of the vegetation along the discontinuous planes and prevent further biological damages.
This paper investigates the characteristics of preservation of Korean modern architecture through Western historic preservation theories and philosophies. This research focuses on the Japanese Government-General of Korea (1926-1995) which was built in 1926 and used as the chief administrative building in Seoul (Keijo in Japanese) during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). After Korea was liberated from Japanese rule in 1945, this building was used until 1995 for the South Korean National Assembly, the United States Army Military Government in Korea, and the National Museum of South Korea. Although it served a variety of roles, this building was the most controversial case of historic preservation in Korean modern architecture. To analyze the peculiarities and characteristics of Korean modern architecture and its preservation, this research applied Western historic preservation theories, not exclusively from classical historic preservation theories developed by Viollet-le-Duc and John Ruskin, but also from modern historic preservation theories by Theodore H. M. Prudon, Daniel Blunstone, and Frances A. Yates. This cross-cultural and comparative study of historic preservation helps identify Korean modern architecture's characteristics. It can also be a useful reference in finding the origins of Korean modern architectural identity.
