  • The cross-flow fans are widely used in various applications, due to their large capacity of mass flow and the size compactness. The flow fields of the cross-flow fan is, however, complex and it has many design parameters. Thus the general design guide has not sufficiently established yet, and the design strategies of cross-flow fans have been based on experiments. In the present study, the cross-flow fan performance and its two-dimensional flow characteristics are numerically analyzed by using the STAR-CD. The simulation is done by varying the several design parameters such as impeller blade shapes, the gap between the stabilizer and impeller. The computational results are compared with the experimental data at the fan outlet region. Finally some helpful guides for the optimum design of the cross-flow fan are proposed.

  • This study intends to propose a non-oriented DEA based game cross-efficiency approach for supplier selection. With a discussion on the choice of DEA models and approaches that are most appropriate for supplier selection, we propose a game cross efficiency model based upon the non-oriented variable returns-to-scale RAM DEA by adapting the existing game cross efficiency model based upon the oriented constant returns-to-scale CCR DEA. We develop the RAM game cross efficiency model and a convergent iterative solution procedure to find the best game cross efficiency scores that constitute a Nash equilibrium. We illustrate the proposed model with two data sets of supplier selection, and demonstrate that significantly different results are obtained when compared with the existing approaches.

  • The flat type automotive cross members with high strength steel have advantages in light weight and fewer parts compared to the hump type cross members. But the complex part shape of the flat type cross member and the poor formability of high strength steel make it difficult to form the parts without forming defects, such as splits and wrinkles. The purpose of this study is to develop the flat type automotive cross member with high strength steel. For that purpose, drawing processes are evaluated using PAM-$STAMP^{TM}$ and proper draw die and blank designs are proposed. Using the proposed die and blank design, the flat type upper and lower cross member could be formed successfully without forming defects.

  • Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) was used to demonstrate cross-linking of peptides induced by transglutaminase. The presence of ε-( Υ-glutamyl)lysine isopeptide cross-link in the acid hydrolysate of the cross-linking reaction mixture was also demonstrated by MALDI-TOF-MS without prior separation. MALDI-TOF-MS quickly provided peptide mass maps after pronase digestion of the cross-linked peptide adduct, which enabled us to monitor the hydrolytic sequence. Pronase appears to preferentially hydrolyze peptide bonds distant from the cross-link before hydrolyzing peptide bonds around the cross-link. The results suggest that pronase digestion followed by MALDI-TOF-MS could be used for determination of amino acid sequence around a modification site.

  • With the rapid growth of multimedia data, research on cross-media feature learning has significance in many applications, such as multimedia search and recommendation. Existing methods are sensitive to noise and edge information in multimedia data. In this paper, we propose a semi-supervised method for cross-media feature learning by means of $L_{2,q}$ norm to improve the performance of cross-media retrieval, which is more robust and efficient than the previous ones. In our method, noise and edge information have less effect on the results of cross-media retrieval and the dynamic patch information of multimedia data is employed to increase the accuracy of cross-media retrieval. Our method can reduce the interference of noise and edge information and achieve fast convergence. Extensive experiments on the XMedia dataset illustrate that our method has better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

  • In recent times, the volume of cross-border e-commerce has witnessed an upward trend and has been accompanied by increased disputes, with cross-border e-commerce being characterized mainly by low value and large volume issues. For this reason, Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) was formed to carry out dispute resolutions in cross-border e-commerce. A virtual multi-door ODR platform for small value, cross-border disputes in e-commerce is then proposed in this paper. For a couple of decades, researchers have tried to employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Law. However, it turns out that they were faced with a couple of obstacles to integrate AI to Law since it is highly difficult to program AI to process the common sense of a human being. For example, AI cannot assimilate the affective side of a human being, and it is problematic to integrate a human being's common sense into the AI system. Considering this situation, this study puts forward an ODR model for cross-border e-commerce in the evolutionary perspective.

  • Recently, the cross-model strategy of using male models in advertisements for women's cosmetics has been increasingly utilized. Academics have begun to discuss and study cross-model advertisements, but most of the studies have focused on the effects of the presence of a cross model. We investigated the effects of a crossmodel's product demonstration as an advertising creative strategy on consumer's attitudes toward the ad. We examined the effects of a male model demonstrating the advertised products for women's cosmetics on female consumers' attitudes toward the ad. As a result, we found that when a male model demonstrated a product in a women's product advertisement, consumers' attitudes toward the ad were more positive the higher their product involvement. Therefore, product involvement was found to be a moderating variable in the effect of cross-model product demonstration on attitudes toward the ad. This study contributes to the line of research on the effect of cross-model and product demonstration advertising, providing practical implications for advertising practitioners.

  • Developers often use cross-platform frameworks to create mobile apps that can run on multiple platforms with minimal code changes. However, these frameworks may not suit all the needs of a specific app, so developers may also use native APIs to add platform-specific features. This method eventually dilutes the advantages of cross-platform development methodology that aims to reduce development costs and time, and often leads to a decision to return back to the original native mobile development methodology. In this study, we explore a different approach: combining different cross-platform tools to develop a storybook mobile app that meets various requirements. We have demonstrated that integrating two cross-platform solutions can be used reliably to develop complex mobile applications. However, we also report that this approach can introduce unforeseen issues such as sandbox redundancy, unexpected functional burdens, and redundant permission requests. Despite these challenges, we believe that combining two cross-platform solutions can be applied to a variety of functional and performance requirements, enabling the development of more sophisticated mobile applications at lower costs and with shorter development timelines than traditional mobile app development methodologies.

  • The differential equations governing free, in-plane vibrations of linearly elastic circular arches with variable cross-sections are derived and solve numerically for quadratic arches with three types of rectangular cross sections. Frequencies, mode shapes, cross-sectional load distributions, and the effects of rotatory inertia on frequencies are reported. Experimental measurements of frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes agree closely with those predicted by theory. The numerical methods presented here for computing frequencies and mode shapes are efficient and reliable.

  • For every tree T, we introduce a topological invariant, called the T-cross-index, for connected graphs. The T-cross-index of a graph is a non-negative integer or infinity according to whether T is a tree basis of the graph or not. It is shown how this cross-index is independent of the other topological invariants of connected graphs, such as the Euler characteristic, the crossing number and the genus.
