A Study on Design and Dynamic Characteristics of Tearing Tubes Applied in Tram (트램용 테어링 튜브 에너지흡수부재 설계와 동적 특성 연구)

  • The paper aims to design and verify tearing tube type energy absorption device applied in tram to ensure safety in case of collision accident. Energy capacity of tearing tube is determinated based on EN15227 and Standard Collision Scenarios Criterion in Detail in Republic of Korea. Tearing tube is designed based on theoretical model suggested by X.Huang et al. and assumption by T.Y. Reddy et al. Real scale collision tests are conducted to analyze the energy absorption characteristics and deformation mode. Bending of curl tips is absorbed collision energy when curl tips and tube body are contacted to each other from the tests and we suggest and include the formula on bending of curl tips in theoretical model.

An Algorithm for Self-determing Degrees-of-freedom of Shifting Systems (변속 시스템의 자유도 자율 판단 알고리즘)

  • In automotive industries, one of major issues is the shifting shock, which is brought out when two clutches are engaged in an automatic transmission. The engagement and disengagement if two clutches means the variation of the D.O.F(degree of freedom) of system. Therefore to analyze the shifting performance, the variation of D.O.F should be considered in detail. Generally, the programs for analyzing the shifting transients have been developed as the problem-dependent codes because the artificial maris were usually used to indicate the change of shifting phase. To develop a software applicable to a general mechanism of transmissions, a self-determining algorithm of D.O.F must be applied. Through the experiences for the last several years, a generalized analysis software of shifting mechanism(so called by POTAS-MSM Version 2.0) has been developed. In this study, some major ideas of the software and the concept for the analysis of shifting characteristics are presented. In addition to that, this paper shows how to self -determine D.O.F of he multi-slipping systems using the stick-slip criterion on a single slipping mechanism. By using this software, the shifting characteristics of a vehicle are analyzed and compared with the experimental results.

Analysis of PRT Station Capacity based on Micro Simulation (미시적 시뮬레이션을 통한 PRT 정류장 용량분석)

  • The introduction of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) has been widely discussed in the Korean transportation research field. However, there is no robust criterion to derive the throughput of cars and passengers at PRT stations, which plays a primary role in determining the overall capacity of PRT systems. The present study provided a methodology to rigorously compute the capacity for simple-serial PRT stations with a single platform, considering three decisive factors, i.e., the demand level of incoming cars and outgoing passengers, the station structure, and the operation strategy. A micro-level simulator was developed for the analysis of station capacity. And, by using this, station capacities were presented for various combinations of the decisive factors. In particular, the relationship between capacity and station structure was investigated in detail. Station structure is represented by the numbers of platform berths, input queue berths, and output queue berths. Moreover, both waive rate and waiting time, which represent the level of passenger service, were taken into account when the station throughput was computed.

  • The hazard warning levels are necessary for the rational design and safety construction of underground space, as mountain and urban tunnel. Sakurai provided the hazard warning levels for assessing the stability of tunnels using the critical strain of rock mass, which is defined as a ratio between uni-axial compressive strength and the Young's modulus. The concept of critical strain guidelines is introduced in this study for the assessment of tunnel safety during excavation. Moreover, in this paper, the critical strain properties of sedimentary rock in Korea has investigated and analysed in detail by Lab. test, as the uniaxial and triaxial compression tests. Finally, critical strain properties of sedimentary rock on uniaxial and triaxial stress condition is discussed the relationship of failure strain values, uniaxial and triaxial compression strengths, confining pressure and Young's modulus.

  • The vehicle suspension system plays a very important part related with vehicle ride and handling. To improve the vehicle ride and handling many researches have been progressed from various damping parameter tuning techniques to the development of the electronic controlled suspension systems. In this paper, as one of the ride performance improvement a disturbance observer(DOB) based control system is applied to the quarter car vehicle model in order to show that the DOB can obtain good vibration isolation characteristics. First, the robust stability criterion for the DOB is introduced in detail, and then how DOB is applied to the 1/4 car vehicle model is represented, and finally to confirm the effectiveness of the DOB in vehicle ride performance improvement a computer simulation is carried out for various driving conditions.

  • In this study, it is aim to perform the construction stage analysis of suspension bridges using time dependent material properties. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Suspension Bridge connecting the Europe and Asia in Istanbul is selected as an example. Finite element models of the bridge are modelled using SAP2000 program considering project drawing. Geometric nonlinearities are taken into consideration in the analysis using P-Delta large displacement criterion. The time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations are included in the analysis. Because of the fact that the bridge has steel structural system, only prestressing steel relaxation is considered as time dependent material properties. The structural behaviour of the bridge at different construction stages has been examined. Two different finite element analyses with and without construction stages are carried out and results are compared with each other. As analyses result, variation of the displacement and internal forces such as bending moment, axial forces and shear forces for bridge deck and towers are given with detail. It is seen that construction stage analysis has remarkable effect on the structural behaviour of the bridge.

  • As the IT industry developed, the information held by the company soon became a corporate asset. As this information has value as an asset, the number and scale of various cyber attacks which targeting enterprises and institutions is increasing day by day. Therefore, research are being carried out to protect the assets from cyber attacks by using the attack graph to identify the possibility and risk of various attacks in advance and prepare countermeasures against the attacks. In the attack graph, security metric is used as a measure for determining the importance of each asset or the risk of an attack. This is a key element of the attack graph used as a criterion for determining which assets should be protected first or which attack path should be removed first. In this survey, we research trends of various security metrics used in attack graphs and classify the research according to application viewpoints, use of CVSS(Common Vulnerability Scoring System), and detail metrics. Furthermore, we discussed how to graft the latest security technologies, such as MTD(Moving Target Defense) or SDN(Software Defined Network), onto the attack graphs.

  • Large deformation and rapid pressure propagation take place inside the rock mass under the dynamic loads caused by the explosives, on quarry faces in order to extract aggregate material. The complexity of the science of rock blasting is due to a number of factors that affect the phenomenon. However, blasting engineering computations could be facilitated by innovative software algorithms in order to determine the results of the violent explosion, since field experiments are particularly difficult to be conducted. The present research focuses on the design of a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code, for investigating in detail the behavior of limestone under the blasting effect of Ammonium Nitrate & Fuel Oil (ANFO). Specifically, the manuscript presents the FEA models and the relevant transient analysis results, simulating the blasting process for three types of limestone, ranging from poor to very good quality. The Finite Element code was developed by applying the Jones-Wilkins-Lee (JWL) equation of state to describe the thermodynamic state of ANFO and the pressure dependent Drucker-Prager failure criterion to define the limestone plasticity behavior, under blasting induced, high rate stress. A progressive damage model was also used in order to define the stiffness degradation and destruction of the material. This paper performs a comparative analysis and quantifies the phenomena regarding pressure, stress distribution and energy balance, for three types of limestone. The ultimate goal of this research is to provide an answer for a number of scientific questions, considering various phenomena taking place during the explosion event, using advanced computational tools.

Thermoelastoplastic response of FGM linearly hardening rotating thick cylindrical pressure vessels

  • An analytical solution is presented to analyze the thermoelastoplastic response of a rotating thick-walled cylindrical pressure vessel made of functionally graded material (FGM). The analysis is based on Tresca's yield condition, its associated flow rule and linear strain hardening material behaviour. The uncoupled theory of thermoelasticity is used, and the plane strain condition is assumed. The material properties except for Poisson's ratio, are assumed to vary nonlinearly in the radial direction. Elastic, partially plastic, fully plastic, and residual stress states are investigated. The heat conduction equation for the one-dimensional problem in cylindrical coordinates is used to obtain temperature distribution in the vessel. It is assumed that the inner surface is exposed to an airstream and that the outer surface is exposed to a uniform heat flux. Tresca's yield criterion and its associated flow rule are used to formulate six different plastic regions for a linearly hardening condition. All these stages are studied in detail. It is shown that the thermoelastoplastic stress response of a rotating FGM pressure vessel is affected significantly by the nonhomogeneity of the material and temperature gradient. The results are validated with those of other researchers for appropriate values of the system parameters and excellent agreement is observed.

Threshold Estimation of Generalized Pareto Distribution Based on Akaike Information Criterion for Accurate Reliability Analysis (정확한 신뢰성 해석을 위한 아카이케 정보척도 기반 일반화파레토 분포의 임계점 추정)

  • In order to perform estimations with high reliability, it is necessary to deal with the tail part of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) in greater detail compared to an overall CDF. The use of a generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) to model the tail part of a CDF is receiving more research attention with the goal of performing estimations with high reliability. Current studies on GPDs focus on ways to determine the appropriate number of sample points and their parameters. However, even if a proper estimation is made, it can be inaccurate as a result of an incorrect threshold value. Therefore, in this paper, a GPD based on the Akaike information criterion (AIC) is proposed to improve the accuracy of the tail model. The proposed method determines an accurate threshold value using the AIC with the overall samples before estimating the GPD over the threshold. To validate the accuracy of the method, its reliability is compared with that obtained using a general GPD model with an empirical CDF.
