This paper describes a concrete method for computing characteristic impedances and effective dielectric constants of the microstrip coupled lines without and with a dielectric overlay. The frequency-independent spectral domain method is used for the analysis of these lines. This method is a powerful, accurate, and numerically efficient approach for planar transmission line structure. For designing the optimal directional coupler, the velocities of even and odd mode must be equal but velocities of these two modes are different in the conventional coupled line which is inhomogeneous. The results show that these two velocities can be almost same according to variations of structural and material parameters in terms of the overlay(superstrate).
Coupled porous curved beams, due to their low weight and high flexibility, have many applications in engineering. This study investigates the vibration behavior of coupled porous curved beams in different boundary conditions. The system consists of two curved beams connected by a mid-layer of elastic springs. These beams are made of various materials, such as homogenous steel foam, and composite materials with PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) and SWCNT (single-walled carbon nanotube) used as the matrix and nanofillers, respectively. To obtain equivalent material properties, the role of mixture (RoM) was employed, followed by the implementation of the porosity function. The system's governing equations were obtained by employing FSDT and Hamilton's law. To investigate thermal vibration, temperature was implemented as a load in the governing equations. The GDQ method was used to solve these equations. To demonstrate the applicability of the GDQ method in calculating the frequencies of the system and the correctness of the developed program, a validation study was conducted. After validation, numerous examples were presented to investigate the behavior of single and coupled curved beams in various material properties and boundary conditions. The results indicate that the frequencies of the curved beams and the system depend highly on the amount of porosity (n) and the distribution pattern. The system frequencies decreased with an increase in the porosity coefficient. The stiffness of the springs had no effect on the first mode frequency but increased frequencies of other modes in a specific range. The frequencies of the system decreased with an increase in environmental temperature.

In this study, a novel third-order bandpass filter, which is based on a rectangular closed loop resonator, is presented. By adding a series resonator to the conventional loop resonator, the resonator's even resonant mode is split into two modes, while the odd resonant mode is not affected. Therefore, by varying the values of the series resonator elements, the resonant frequencies of two even modes can be determined independent of the odd-mode resonant frequency. In the proposed triple-mode filter design, instead of using a lumped series resonator, a T-shaped transmission line is coupled to the resonator via a small gap. To verify the design method, a filter is designed at 2.4 GHz with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. The improved performances of the proposed triple-mode filter are compared with those of the conventional dual mode filter.

A structural coupling method is developed for the dynamic analysis of a nonlinear structure with concentrated nonlinear hinge joints or sliding lines. The component mode synthesis method is extended to couple substructures and the nonlinear models. In order to verify the improved coupling method, a numerical plate model consisting of two substructures and torsional springs, is synthesized by using the proposed method and its modal parameters are compare with analysis data. Then the coupling method is applied to a three-substructure-model with the nonlinearity of sliding lines between the substructures. The coupled structural model is verified from its dynamic analysis. The analysis results show that the improved coupling method is adequate for the structural nonlinear analyses with the nonlinear hinge and sliding mode condition.
It is obtained the general expessions of the numerical method are applied for the TEM-mode analysis of multu-layer multi-coupled microstrip lines, In this paper, coupled microstrip are replaced by three-coupled microstrip lines in special aplications. Three-layer versions of three-coupled microstrip lines are specially attactive because of the additional flexibilities offered by three-layer configuration. This structure can be used for obtaining large capacitance and preventing coupling among microstrip lines in filter and coupler. Sappihre is chosen for anisotropic substrates material. The permittivity parallel to the optical axis is higher than the permittivity in the plane perpendicular to this axis.

This study presents the design of an 18 kW two-phase interleaved buck converter that uses a coupled inductor for an electric vehicle rapid charger. The designs of a two-phase coupled inductor for current ripple and physical size reduction and a two-phase interleaved buck converter based on silicon carbide metal - oxide - semiconductor field-effect transistor for high efficiency were described in detail. The operating principle of the two-phase interleaved buck converter was analyzed, and the coupled inductor was investigated using a magnetized equivalent circuit. Simulation and experiments were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed two-phase interleaved buck converter, and the theoretical design method and experimental results were confirmed.

A general characterization procedure based on the extraction of a 2n-port admittance matrix corresponding to n uniform coupled lines on the multi-layered substrate using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique is presented. In this paper, the frequency-dependent normal mode parameters are obtained from the 2n-port admittance matrix to analyze multi-layered asymmetric coupled line structure, which in turn provides the frequency-dependent propagation constant, effective dielectric constant, and line-mode characteristic impedances. To illustrate the technique, several practical coupled line structures on multi-layered substrate have been simulated. Especially, embedded conductor structures have been simulated. Comparisons with Spectral Domain Method are given, and their results agree well. It is shown that the FDTD based time domain characterization procedure is an excellent broadband simulation tool for the design of multiconductor coupled lines on multilayered PCBs as well as thick or thin hybrid structures.

Nonuniform transmission lines(NTLs) with the desired frequency response can be realized by synthesizing the potential from the coupled mode Zakharov-Shabat(ZS) equation in the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. In this study, an efficient synthesis method using the ZS equations is presented for NTLs with arbitrarily specified reflection coefficients which take the restricted potential. This method lessens the line length which plague conventional design schemes using specific windows for reflection coefficients. Furthermore solving the ZS inverse transform problem is simplified by adopting the successive approach instead of the conventional iterative method. The proposed method is compared with the conventional method using specific windows by applying to design of dispersive NTL filters, and verified by two-port analysis through the chain matrix.

A wall-frame structure resists horizontal load by the interaction between the flexural mode of the shear wall and the shear mode of the frame, which implies that the frame deflects only by reverse bending of the columns and girders, and that the columns are axially rigid. However, as the height of frame increases the shear mode of frame changes to flexural mode, which is due to the extension and shortening of the columns. An approximate hand method for estimating horizontal deflection and member forces in high-rise shear wall-frame structures subjected to horizontal loading is presented. The method is developed from the continuous medium theory for coupled walls and expressed in non-dimensional structural parameters. It accounts for bending deformations in all individual members as well as axial deformations in the columns. The deformations calculated from the presented approximate method and matrix analysis by computer program are compared. The presented approximate method is more accurate for the taller structures.
The reactor impedance is calculated for a planar-type cylindrical inductively coupled plasma source by expanding the electromagnetic fields into their Fourier-Bessel series forms including the three-dimensional shape of the antenna. The mode excitation method is utilized to determine the electromagnetic fields based on a Poynting theorem-like relationship. From the obtained electromagnetic fields, a tractable form of the reactor impedance is obtained as a function of various plasma and geometrical parameters and applied to carry out a parametric study.
