The Effect of Counselor's Supervision Experience on Counselor Development: Moderating Effect of Supervision Satisfaction (상담자의 수퍼비전 경험이 상담자 발달에 미치는 영향: 수퍼비전 만족도의 조절효과)

  • This study examines the effect of a counselor's supervision experience on counselor development, and verifies the moderating effect of supervision satisfaction on the relationship between the counselor's supervision experience and counselor development. Data were collected via survey administered to 299 counselors who were actively engaged in counseling practice for institutions and public organizations in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Jeolla regions, such as schools, universities, and professional counseling services. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 21.0. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the amount of participation in individual supervision and group supervision had a significant effect on counselor development. Second, age and years of counseling experience had major effects on counselor development. Third, when the moderating effect of supervision satisfaction on the relationship between the amount of participation in individual or group supervision and counselor development was verified, it was found that supervision satisfaction had a moderating effect on the relationship between the amount of participation in group supervision and counselor development (regarding the level of understanding with cases). The result can be interpreted as meaning that a counselor's positive supervision experience has a direct influence on the outcome and quality of counseling services. Based on these results, proposed implications are presented regarding counseling supervision.

The Mediated Effects of Ego-Resilience and Countertransference Management Ability in the Relationship Between Counselor's Adult Attachment and Development Levels of Counselors (상담자의 성인애착과 상담자 발달수준의 관계에서 자아탄력성, 역전이 관리 능력의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of ego-resilience and countertransference management ability in the relationship between counselor's adult attachment and development levels of counselors. For this purpose, 389 counselors who conducted more than 5 times of verbal counseling per case were surveyed for 3 weeks using the online questionnaire function. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 and AMOS 21, reliability analysis was conducted, and constructed structural equation model(SEM) and to verify validity, fitness, and mediating effects. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, counselor's attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance had indirect effects on the ability to manage countertransference through the medium of ego-resilience(p<.001). Second, counselor's attachment avoidance had an indirect effect on counselor's developmental level through countertransference management ability(p<.05). Third, it was confirmed that counselor's attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance had an effect on counselor's development level through double mediation of ego-resilience and countertransference management ability(p<.001). The significance and limitations of these results and suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.

Narrative Depiction of a Focusing Attitude Training Experience through a Counselor's Participation in Focusing Workshop (포커싱 워크숍 경험을 통한 포커싱적 태도 훈련 체험에 대한 내러티브 탐구)

  • This study is a narrative depiction of a focusing attitude training experience through a counselor's participation in focusing workshop. Through the story of life, the researchers explored how the participant experienced according to the three - dimensional narrative inquiry space (time, place, interaction). The results of this study is that the contact (self - awareness process) with self - experience through focusing training abled the counselor to facilitate clients' own self-contact during the psychotherapy process and as a result the counselor was able to establish 'relational depth' with clients. Through Focusing experience, the counselor was able to aware bodily feeling 'as it is' which helped the expansion of self with multiple perspectives of life away from fixed own self -frame. The implication of this study is to explore the meaning of the counselor's Focusing attitude and to prepare for the development of Focusing workshops in the future.

A study on professional identity and development in family counselors - Focusing on grounded theory approach - (가족상담사의 전문직 정체성 및 발달 연구: 근거이론접근을 중심으로)

  • Objectives: This study is designed to explore and understand what professional identity and professional development are like in family counselors. Method: This study to achieve its purpose, collected data through in-depth interview with fifteen(15) family counselors through grounded theory approach. Results: Major research findings can be summarized as follows. 176 concepts were drawn through open coding, again classified into 47 categories and finally into 18 subcategories. Through selective coding, 'growing as an expert in family counseling through continuous exertions for growth' appeared as core category. Through this process, the types of professional development in family counselors were classified into job pursuing type, self achieving type, self understanding type, and volunteering type. Through process analysis, family counselors' professional development could be divided into three steps with the course of time: step of immersion, self-understanding and acceptance, and integration. Based on this, the hypothetical relations in four areas: personal area, family area, interpersonal area, and vocational area were summarized in statements. Conclusion: This study is significant in that it attempted to establish a theory to explain the professional identity, development and influence factors shown in family counselors. It also provides those who hope to grow as expert in family counseling with long-term visions and implications for family counselor training and supervision. In this study, the suggestions on the tasks to check and solve the factors for improving and supporting the foundations of family counselors' professional identities by highlighting the family counselors own identify that is different from other counselors are expected to be used as primary data for preparing laws and regulations related to family counseling in the future.

A Study on Counselor's Professional Development Experiences of Undergraduate Students Through Reflective Journal Writing (성찰일지를 통한 상담전문가 발달 경험: 융합적 교육방법의 상담실습 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore undergraduate students' professional growth experiences as a novice counselor through reflective journal writing. Study participants were six students who completed the counseling skills course. The analysis was done on their weekly reflective journals using Colaizzi's phenomenological qualitative method. As a result, 11 sub-categories and 3 categories were emerged: increasing recognition and knowledge regarding counseling, being troubled and frustrated due to one's inexperiences of counseling, trying to overcome frustration toward professional counselors. This study revealed counseling major undergraduate students' professional development experiences and can be utilized in counseling training program development in the future.

Validation of Job Analysis for Hospital HIV/AIDS Nurse Counselor (의료기관 에이즈 상담간호사 직무의 타당성)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the appropriateness and validity of the HIV/AIDS nurse counselor's job, and to propose the job description. Mixed method was used: nominal group interview was used as a qualitative research and a survey was used as a quantitative research. Three of the nominal group members evaluated the appropriateness of the duties and tasks. To identify the validity of the evaluated duties and tasks, importance, difficulty and frequency were surveyed by 14 nurses who were working at the hospital as a HIV/AIDS nurse counselors. For the HIV/AIDS nurse counselor, 7 duties and 35 tasks - infection control of the HIV/AIDS, counseling, client advocacy, development of the educational material, referral to the resources, referral services at the hospital, and self-improvement - were identified. Proposed job description will be used as a reference for the role position and the training curriculum of the HIV/AIDS nurse counselors who are working at the hospital.

Development and Validation of the Vicarious Trauma Scale for Sexual Violence Counselor (성폭력 상담자 대리외상 척도 개발 및 타당화)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a scale of vicarious trauma for sexual violence counselors. To this end, the concept of composition and preliminary questions of the vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors were selected through the analysis of a content of individual interviews of sexual violence counselors and the precedent theory. Then, preliminary scale was developed after expert's evaluation of the validity of the contents. Next, as a result of a confirmatory factor analysis on the preliminary scale of 349 sexual violence counselors with experience in consulting sexual violence clients, it is confirmed that the conformity of five-factor structure was found to be favorable. As a result of convergent and discriminative validity analysis, it was confirmed that the developed scale is a reasonable tool for measuring vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors by showing proper correlation with Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, Counselor Burnout Inventory and Inventory of Countertransference Behavior. Furthermore, as a result of correlation analysis between professional identity and Belief in a Just World, it confirmed that it has predictive validity of the scale by indicating a high negative correlation. Furthermore, the relationship between the scale of vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors and career background was analyzed. Finally, based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of this study and the direction of future research were discussed.

Development and Evaluation of Health Care Providers' Counseling Manual in Mobile Application for Lifelong Health Care among Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B (만성 B형간염환자의 평생건강관리를 위한 모바일 앱 건강관리자용 상담매뉴얼 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate health care providers' counseling manual in mobile application for lifelong health care among patients with chronic hepatitis B. Methods: The mobile application was developed using a prototyping approach and system developing life cycle method, evaluated by users for their satisfaction with the counseling manual and experts for the quality of the manual. To evaluate application of the counseling manual, knowledge and counselor self-efficacy of the subjects were measured and compared before and after application of the counseling manual. Results: There were statistically significant increases in knowledge and counselor self-efficacy in the user group. A mobile application with high accessibility and applicability including information and counseling factors can promote counseling competence of the nurse as health care provider caring chronic hepatitis B patients. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the counseling manual in mobile application is effective in increasing knowledge and counselor self-efficacy among nurses to promote lifelong health care among patients with chronic hepatitis B. Therefore, it can be usefully utilized in the field of nursing for patients with chronic hepatitis B as a nursing intervention.
