Purpose: In order to assess the effects of smoking cessation counseling provided by a public health center in terms of smoking temptation, smoking cessation self-efficacy, and satisfaction with smoking cessation counseling, and also to provide baseline data for the improvement of smoking cessation counseling programs. Methods: A total of 52 current and former smokers who utilized smoking cessation counseling provided by the health center at least once participated in this study. Using a self-report survey method, data were collected in November 2005. Results: The mean age and duration of smoking of the participants were 49 and 28 years, respectively. Seventy-one percent had experienced smoking cessation trials prior to using the counseling services, and most of the participants had utilized smoking cessation counseling less than 5 times. Mean scores of temptation, self-efficacy, and satisfaction with counseling were $3.39{\pm}0.75,\;3.80{\pm}0.66$, and $4.38{\pm}0.55$ (range,1-5), respectively. The participants were largely vulnerable to smoking temptations under conditions of anxiety or stress. The duration of counseling was associated negatively with smoking temptation, but was associated positively with self-efficacy. Conclusion: To help adopt and maintain smoking cessation, smoking cessation counseling should emphasize methods for coping with smoking temptations and to increase smoking cessation self-efficacy in various tempting situations.
The purpose of this study was to assess the practical nutrition counseling system by investigating job perception and satisfaction among school nutrition teachers in Kyungbuk area. One hundred and fifty school nutrition teachers were surveyed and 128 answered(85.3%). Data were analyzed by frequency(%), $x^2$-test, and pearson's correlation analyses. Nutrition teachers in elementary schools conducted nutrition counseling more than those in middle schools. In descending order, the reasons for not conducting nutrition education were lack of time, inadequate system for the nutrition counseling, lack of curriculum and lack of facilities. Respondents thought that reduced workload was important to conduct nutrition counseling. However, nutrition counseling should be actively utilized as teachers showed high satisfaction. Therefore, systematic support from related departments combined with effective nutrition counselling methods for nutrition teachers should be continuously provided.

This dissertation analyzed the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for Korean domestic violence offenders. I conducted a survey of Korean domestic violence offenders scattered throughout the country. The survey period was between Mar Feb. 20, 2006 and Apr. 29, 2006. The specific objects of the survey are the 250 domestic violence offenders who got counseling in the Goyang branch office of the Justice Ministry-affiliated Uijeongbu Probation & Parole Center, Ansan Citizen Welfare Society's domestic violence counseling center, Korea Domestic Violence Counseling Center Association, Korea Women's Hot Line, Korea Family Law Counseling Center and its branch offices throughout the country, and the counseling centers commissioned by the court for domestic violence offenders. The study was based on a poll on 182 of the 250 offenders. The research result includes: First, the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for offenders varies depending upon the age, educational background, location, job, income, and childhood abuse of offenders. In particular, the less experience of childhood abuse leads to greater effect of education. Second, of the types of corrective counseling programs for offenders, the satisfaction for those in couple counseling is the greatest. This is because couple counseling is more influential than individual in the professional education that helps to share and understand couple problems.

Medication counseling improves patients' compliance, which enhances the effectiveness of treatment and reduces the medical cost consequently. Since separation of dispensary from medical practice took place, most patients have had to go to pharmacy after receiving prescription from hospital. The importance of medication counseling in pharmacy thus has been emphasized. To study the present conditions of medication counseling from the pharmacists and the patients satisfaction with them, we conducted a survey with questionnaires. The subjects were 146 outpatients and 55 pharmacies located in Yeongdeungpo-gu. The research showed that 69.9% of the outpatients had received medication counseling and only 35.5% of them were satisfied with it. The main reason for their unsatisfaction was insufficiency of explanation. A number of patients(75.3%) were thinking that medication counseling from the pharmacists is necessary for appropriate administration and optimal efficacy of the medicine. Among 55 pharmacies involved in the research, 17 of them(30.9%) answered that they have been giving patients medication counseling, which were mostly verbally done. Only 8 of them(l4.5%) were providing medication information sheets for some specific drugs. The pharmacists referred to a few problems disturbing optimal medication counseling like these: 1) Lack of time, 2) insufficient information, 3) inappropriate counseling skills. To improve these problems, they hope to get more information about prescription and specific medicines from pharmacy in hospital. If hospital decides to hold the lectures on medication counseling, about 80% of the pharmacists tend to take part in them.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of telephonic counseling on burnout, depression, life satisfaction, and perceived physical health among family caregivers of older adults with dementia. Method: Subjects were randomly assigned into telephonic counseling group (n=21) and the comparison group (n=32). A weekly telephone counseling was conducted by research assistants for 12 weeks. T-test were used to answer the research questions. Result: 1) There were no significant differences between the two groups on the level of burnout, depression, life satisfaction, and perceived physical health after telephone counseling. 2) Spouse caregivers under the telephone counseling tended to report higher perceived physical health than comparison group at the post-test (t=-1.88, p=.08). Spouse caregivers under the telephone counseling tended to report higher emotional exhaustion and lower feeling of self achievement. 3) Daughter-in-law caregivers under telephone counseling showed increased feeling of self achievement, improved physical health condition, and decreased depression. Conclusion: This study showed potential effects of the problem-solving telephone counseling to improve perceived physical health and to reduce the level of burnout and depression. The findings suggest the necessity of screening most vulnerable subgroups of caregivers to increase the effectiveness of nursing intervention such as telephone counseling.
