The bi-directional high pressure pile load test(BDH PLT) which is a kind of pile load tests was conducted to find out a reasonable design procedure of large-diameter drilled shafts of large-size building structures. The behaviors of bearing capacity and settlement of the large-diameter drilled shafts were analyzed and the results obtained from BDH PLT were also compared with those obtained from the equations suggested in the specification. In case of the reasonable design procedure adopted, the construction cost could be saved at least 15 ~ 28%. It could be concluded that BDH PLT should be needed for the foundation construction cost reduction of the high-rise building structures.

Intelligent investment in setup cost reduction and process reliability improvement is crucial to an emerging integrated lean six sigma practice today. This study examines a cost-minimizing problem of jointly determining production lot size, setup cost reduction, and process reliability improvement decisions for a manufacturer with an imperfect production process. We develop models for previously untapped discrete shipping in a supply chain context as well as continuous shipping and solve them optimally using differential calculus and nonlinear programming. We also conduct analytic and numerical sensitivity analyses to provide various important managerial insights into practices.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic value and productivity achieved through a reduction in fishing vessels engaged in coastal and offshore fisheries. We found that the value of increasing catch by types in offshore and coastal fisheries was about 17,338 billion won. To examine the economic value, a cost-benefit analysis was applied. This is based on the total cost of vessel reduction (4,576 billion won) assumed to be invested equally each year for five years. BCR and NPV with a discount rate (5.5%) were used to compare the profit of fishery activities in offshore and coastal areas. The model results showed that the NPV and BCR in offshore and coastal fisheries was 5,522 billion won and 2.340 respectively.

Downsizing IS is rapidly emerging as one of new information systems of the 1990s that involves (1) the cost reduction, (2) the reduction of MIS staff, and (3) the transfer of IS functions to end - users. As downsizing is relatively new information systems, little is known about the causes, the process, or the consequences of downsizing. Case study was chosen as the research methodology of this study. The downsizing IS of Namsun Aluminum Co. Ltd. in Taugu City was chosen for the exploratory case study. The detailed and qualitative analyses to Namsun were performed with the use of observation, participation, and interview techniques. Consequently, the causes, the process, and the consequences of Namsun's downsizing were analyzed and discussed. As for the main cause, downsizing was started with the purpose of cost reduction. The important consequences of downsizing IS are as follows : (1) About 700 million won reduction in the cost of initially developing the downsizing was achieved. (2) Downsizing is performing Namsun's mission critical applications. (3) Namsun's downsizing could be considered to be SIS(strategic information systems).

In the limitless competition era of the 21st century, cost reduction is being highlighted as one of survival strategies of businesses. The first item for cost reduction of businesses is logistical costs. The most keenly required thing for this is to remove unnecessary elements, and the best way to realize it to cut down processes using automatic facilities. Packing container in logistics is like a facility. This study is intended to analyze reduction of costs, improvement of business process and reduction of working force through standardization of standardization, and logistics effects through improvement of environmental images in enterprises.

There is a growing interest in hybrid electric vehicles due to environmental concerns. Recent efforts are directed toward developing an improved main component systems for the hybrid electric vehicle applications. Soon after the introduction of electric starter for internal combustion engine early this century, despite being energy efficient and nonpolluting, electric vehicle lost the battle completly to internal combustion engine due to its limited range and inferior performance. Hybrid Electric vehicles offer the most promising solutions to reduce the emission of vehicles. This paper describes a method for cost reduction estimation of parallel hybrid electric vehicle. We used a cost reduction structure that consisted of five major subsystems (three-type and two-type motor) for parallel hybrid electric vehicle. Especially, we estimated the potential for cost reductions in parallel hybrid electric vehicle as a function of time using the learning curve. Also, we estimated the potentials of cost by depreciation.

This study organizes scenarios on the power supply and demand plans considering the uncertainties and the portion of distributed energy resources. In analysing the scenarios, it estimates total electricity supply cost in the social aspect, natural gas demand and air pollutants emission including carbon dioxide. Also the analysis is performed to estimate the marginal cost of carbon dioxide reduction for the fuel switching from coal to liquified natural gas. In result, the social cost could be decreased by replacing some portion of renewable energy by LNG-based combined heat and power and delaying the construction of large base-load generators such as coal and nuclear plants. The marginal carbon dioxide reduction cost by fuel switching is in plausible range for fuel switching to be an option for carbon dioxide emission reduction when the social cost is considered.

본 논문에서는 석회석광산 개발사업의 사례를 통해 자원개발사업의 비용-편익분석시 고려되어야 할 비용 및 편익 항목이 무엇이며 이의 정확한 계산을 위해서는 어떤 점을 주의해야 하는지 등을 살펴보았다. 본 논문의 결과에 따르면 임산불 생산가치, 수원함양가능, 대기정화 가능 등은 산림훼손에 따른 환경비용으로 간주되어야 하나 통상적으로 환경비용무로 간주되어 왔던 산림휴양 기능, 산림정수 기능 등은 개별 단위의 석회석 개발 사업시는 환경비용으로 간주하기는 어려운 것으로 나타났다. 비용-편익분석 결과는 할인율에 따라 달랐으나 모두 순편익이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 순편익의 규모는 6,899 억 원에서 1조 784억 원인 것으로 나타났다.

This study is intended to look into the effect of construction safety supervision system on risk control and reduction. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 114 companies in construction, ordering, contract and management. The overall findings were as follows. The effect of construction safety supervision system on risk control and reduction showed that factors of supervision system, supervision cost and supervision method had a positive effect on risk control and reduction. And their perception of the introduction of safety supervision system in construction sites according to process showed that there was a difference between them according to the field of ordering, contract and supervision. There was the biggest difference between owner and contractor in double supervision system, but no difference between them in the perception of risk reduction. These results show that all ordering, contract and supervision are positively needed for the introduction of construction safety supervision. This means that there is a difference between owner and contractor in the perception of process according to system operation. All companies agree to system improvement by the settlement of safety supervision system for the prevention of safety accidents and safe construction, but the systematic complement of safety supervision is the burden of contractor. And there is a big difference between owner and contractor in the perception of responsibility and concern for cost burden.
