Body Height Effect on Brain Volumes in Youth Decreases in Old Age in Koreans

  • The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) volumetric analysis of the brain was performed in 59 healthy elderly Koreans (aged 62-76 years; 34 male, 25 female) to investigate whether the previously reported significant correlations between body height and brain volumes in the young aged Koreans (20's) still exist in the old aged Koreans (60's and 70's). Unlike previously reported significant correlations in the young aged Koreans, neither the correlation between whole brain volume and body height in male nor the correlation between cerebellar volume and body height in female show any significance in the old aged Koreans. The significant correlation between body height and whole brain volume was still observed when both male and female data were combined (r=0.27, P<0.05), but the correlation coef-ficient and the level of significance markedly decreased from those of previously reported Korean youth data (r=0.67, P<0.01). Simple linear regression analysis shows decrease of explanatory power of height (measured in $r^2$) from 44% in the youth group to 7% in the old age group on the variance of whole brain volume. Multiple linear regression analysis shows that age and sex, rather than height, are major explanatory variables for whole brain volume in the old aged Koreans. The loss of correlations in the aged group is suspected to be mainly due to age related brain volume changes.

메타상관분석을 이용한 병원간호사의 직무만족에 관련요인 (Factors associated with Job Satisfaction among Hospital Nurses: A Meta-correlation Analysis)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the research trends concerning job satisfaction among hospital nurses. Methods: Articles published between 2008 to 2018 were searched. In the first search, 10,859 articles were extracted from academic databases, and 168 were included. Results: A total of 36 variables were explored regarding job satisfaction. Among the major variables, organizational commitmentandculture and justice had positive correlations withjobsatisfaction. In contrast, burnout, negative affectivity, and turnover intention had negative correlations with it. In the meta-analysis, according to the conceptual framework, salary and promotions showed significant positive correlations with job satisfaction. In contrast, professionaldevelopment showed a significantly negative correlation with it. Conclusion: Strategies to improve the variables corresponding to motivation factors are required to improve job satisfaction among hospital nurses. Furthermore, efforts to improve the nursing work environment corresponding to hygiene factors are also required for efficiency and rational management at the hospital level.

상호교류분석으로 본 간호학생의 자아상태와 스트레스 대처방법 및 건강상태에 관한 연구 (Study on Ego states in the view of Transactional analysis, Coping style and Health states of Nursing Students)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the type of ego states and stress coping style on female college students who are in the course of nursing study. This study is performed in the view of Transactional Analysis and designed to scrutinize descriptive correlations between the type of ego states and stress coping style. The subject is consists of 144 freshmen and sophomore, 138 junior and senior students group, who are students of K nursing college located in Seoul. The sampling investigation period is on Sept. 14, 2002 to Oct. 26, 2002. The measuring instrument used for Transactional Analysis ego state is 50 items Ego-gram research paper devised by Dusay(1997). For studying coping style, Folkman & Lazarus's measurement(1984) was adopted, which is translated and modified by Han, and Oh,(1990). Health states is adopted by standardized health inspecting instrumental table (Cornell Medical Index:CMI) which is designed for Korean people by Ko and Park(1980) Statistic average and standard deviation were generated by using SPSS PC+, t=test and Pearson correlation. The results were as follows: 1) In the type of ego states on both groups indicated the arithmetic apex NP(maximum value), then the point A was high and the data made a down slope to point AC. In the comparison to type of ego states between two groups, only at point CP, the data value of upper year students represented higher than that of lower year ones by c(t=2.28, p=.023). 2) Stress coping style of whole students were highly and affirmatively dedicated to research. Especially hopeful aspect(t=.67, p=.05), relaxation of tension(t=-2.16, p=.03) made significant difference each other in the view of arithmetic calculation. 3) In view of nursing students' physical health states, there is significant difference in past history(t=2.50, p=.013) and in case of mental health states, there are considerable discrepancies between lower group(73.52) and upper group(75.11)(p<.05). In view of all field, state of tension(t=2.13, p=.048) has difference. 4) While verifying coping style in terms of ego states level between lower and upper students group, In type CP, high level ego states group indicated significant difference on stress coping style area than low leveled group and made such sequences as the central point of problem, In type NP, sequences such as the central point of problem, In type A, the central point of problem, In type FC, hopeful aspect and In type AC, hopeful aspect and indifference were derived significantly different (p<.05). 5) While verifying health state differences in the level of lower and upper ego states, In type FC, low level group(150.29) marked higher point than upper group(145.19), there is remarkable discrepancy and so did whole health state(p=.014), In type AC both mental state(p=.000) and whole health state (p=.015) showed differences. 6) When analyzing correlations between whole students' ego states, copying style and health state, all type of ego state showed differences(p<.001). In correlations between ego state and health state, in type FC physical state had an apex and there are inverse correlations among the other types. Especially, type FC showed inverse correlations with great discrepancies(p<.05). In mental state, type NP(${\gamma}=.198$, p<.001) and type A(${\gamma}=.166$, p<.05) represented straight correlations with remarkable differences. Especially, In type AC showed inverse correlations(${\gamma}=.282$, p<.001). In case of correlations between copying style and health state, indifference(${\gamma}=-.157$) and relaxation of tension(${\gamma}=-.158$) presented great difference(p<.05). In mental state, central point of problem and search for social support showed straight correlations with great discrepancies(p<.05), hopeful aspect and indifference showed inverse correlations with considerable differences(p<.001).

대나무 수개형질간(數個形質間)의 상관관계(相關關係)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Phenotypic, Genotypic and Environmental Correlations among Some Characters of Phyllostachys bambusoides Sieb. et Zucc.)

  • 본시험(本試驗)은 죽간재적(竹稈材積)에 영향(影響)하는 형질(形質)을 정확(正確)하게 파악(把握)하기 위(爲)하여 계획(計劃)되었다. 그리고 왕대의 수개형질상호간(數個形質相互間)의 표현형상관(表現型相關), 유전상관(遺傳相關) 및 환경상관(環境相關)을 구명(究明)하고져 공분산분석(共分散分析) 되었으며 Dewey and Lu의 편회귀분석법(偏回歸分析法)으로 각형질(各形質)이 죽간재적(竹稈材積)에 미치는 효과(効果) 즉(即) 경로계수(經路係數)를 산출(算出)하였다. 조사형질(調査形質)은 흉고직경(胸高直徑), 죽간고(竹稈高), 지상고(枝上高), 지하경(地下莖), 절수(節數), 근원직경(根元直徑) 및 죽간재적(竹稈材積)이며 각(各) 형질(形質)의 평균치(平均値), 표준오차(標準誤差), 분산(分散) 및 표준편차(標準偏差)는 제(第)1표(表)와 같고 7개형간(個形間)의 표현형(表現型), 유전(遺傳) 및 환경상관(環境相關)을 분산분석(分散分析)한 결과(結果)는 제(第)2표(表)와 같이 계통간(系統間)에는 고도(高度)의 유의성(有意性)이 인정(認定)되었으나 몇몇 반복간(反覆間)에는 유의성(有意性)이 인정(認定)되지 않았다. 각(各) 형질(形質)의 유전력(遺傳力)을 추정(推定)한바 흉고직경(胸高直徑)과 근원직경(根元直徑)은 유전력(遺傳力)이 높고 기타형질(其他形質)의 유전력(遺傳力)은 제(第)4표(表)에서와 같이 보다 낮으며 환경상관(環境相關)은 표현형상관(表現型相關), 유전상관(遺傳相關)보다 전체적(全體的)으로 낮다. 그리고 죽간재적(竹稈材積)에 대(對)하여 근원직경(根元直徑)과 흉고직경(胸高直徑)은 높은 상관관계(相關關係)를 나타내었다. 형질별(形質別) 상관관계(相關關係), 경로계수(經路係數) 및 죽간재적(竹稈材積)에 미치는 직접(直接), 간접효과(間接効果)는 도표(圖表) 1과 제(第)5표(表)에서 볼 수 있으며 결과적(結果的)으로 본시험(本試驗)에서는 죽간재적수량(竹稈材積收量)은 근원직경(根元直徑)과 흉고직경(胸高直徑)에 의(依)하여 좌우(左右)될 수 있다는 것을 알았다.

상수 각형질 상호간의 표현형상관과 유전상관 (Phenotypic and Genotypic Correlations between Some Characters of Mulberry Trees)

  • 뽕나무의 정엽중 즉 수량을 예측하고 수량과 제형질과의 관계를 알고자 우리나라 상수주요품종 4품종을 재료로 상수의 8개형질상호간의 유전상관, 표현형상관 그리고 환경상관을 계산한바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 각형질상호간의 표현형공분산, 유전공분산 그리고 환경공분산을 계산한 바 제1표와 같이 표현형공분산은 유전공분산의 값과 근사하나 다소 높고 환경공분산의 값은 그 변동이 심하다. 2. 각형질상호간의 유전상관, 표현형관계 그리고 환경상관 등은 계산한바 제2표와 같이 유전상관은 표현형상관보다 그 값이 높고 지조장과 주당지수간, 주당지수와 지총중간에 1이상의 이상치가 보였다. 3. 지조직경과 제형질상호간에는 어느 경우에 있어서도 상관의 정도가 낮고, 정엽중 즉 수량과 제형질간의 상관관계를 본바 수량과 지조직경간에는 그값이 낮으나 기타 제형질은 수량과 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 뽕나무의 제형질중 예취전에 측정할 수 있는 지조장, 절간수, 지조직경, 주당지수의 4개형질이 수량의 예측이나 선발대상형질로서 중요한 형질이나 본실험의 결과 지조직경은 수량과 상관의 정도가 낮고, 주당지수는 전보의 결과에서 유전력이 낮았으므로 지금까지의 결과로는 지조장과 절간수가 더욱 중요한 형질로서 취급하여야 할 것으로 믿으며 이들 형질들과 수량과의 직접효과와 간접효과를 구명하여 보는 것이 앞으로 남은 한 과제가 될 수 있을 것으로 믿는다.

ESR1 and PGR Gene Promoter Methylation and Correlations with Estrogen and Progesterone Receptors in Ductal and Lobular Breast Cancer

  • The aim of this work was to analyze methylation of the promoter sites of the ESR1 and PGR genes and to determine correlations with immunohistochemical expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors in ductal and lobular breast cancers. An observational, descriptive, molecular study was conducted on 20 ductal and 20 lobular breast cancer samples with immunohistochemical determination of estrogen and progesterone receptor expression. The methylation analysis of ESR1 and PGR promoter sites was carried-out by methylation-specific PCR. For correlation analysis, Kendall's tau coefficient was determined. Positive correlations were found between estrogen and progesterone receptors, estrogen receptor and unmethylated progesterone receptor, progesterone receptor, and unmethylated progesterone receptor. Negative correlations were found between estrogen receptor and methylated progesterone receptor, progesterone receptor and methylated progesterone receptor, methylated and unmethylated estrogen receptor, and methylated and unmethylated progesterone receptor. The results suggest that methylation of promoter sites of ESR1 and PGR is a relatively uncommon event in ductal and lobular breast cancer, and also suggest that the determination of epigenetic states of ESR1 and PGR could represent an alternative or complement to the histopathological expression analysis.

보육교사의 직무만족도에 대한 보육효능감과 직무스트레스의 영향 (The Effect of Efficacy of Child Care and Education, Job-Stress on Job-Satisfaction of Child Care and Education Teachers)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of child care and the education and the influence of job-stress on job-satisfaction of child care and education teachers. 172 child care and education teachers were chosen from 40 child care centers located in Incheon, Gyeonggido, and Seoul. Data were collected using the efficacy of child care and education index, the job-stress instrument, and the job-satisfaction instrument, and were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA(Duncan test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. There were significant differences in child care and education teacher's job-satisfaction according to the teacher-related variables, including the type of institution, the number of classes, the age of children, the education, the teaching experience, the income, the age of teacher, and the marital status of the teacher. Correlation analysis indicated that the teacher's efficacy of child care and education and the job-satisfaction had significant correlations, especially the satisfaction of job itself indicated high positive correlations. Job-stress and job-satisfaction of the child care and education teachers had significant negative correlations in all sub-variables, especially the stress from the working environment and the satisfaction of administration system indicated high negative correlations. It was also found that stress from the working environment, stress from the overload, stress from the peer relations, and the efficacy of child care and education were all significant predictors of the child care and education teacher's job-satisfaction.

물환경측정망 자료를 활용한 금강수계 수질 유사도 평가 (Water Quality Similarity Evaluation in Geum River Using Water Quality Monitoring Network Data)

  • 본 연구에서는 금강 수계의 자동측정망 중 6개 지점을 선정하고, 이와 동일하거나 인근에 위치해 있는 수질측정망 지점을 대상으로 두 지점의 수질특성 파악하고 통계 분석을 통하여 상관성을 평가하였다. 또한, 수질 분석결과를 활용하여 수질 지수로 변환하고 등급으로 표현해 비교하였다. 연구에 필요한 자료는 최근 4년간(2016-2019)의 국가물환경측정망 데이터를 활용하였으며 수온, pH, EC, DO, TOC, TN, TP를 평가항목으로 선정하였다. 수질 분석 결과, 자동측정망과 수질측정망의 수질농도는 일부 측정값의 차이는 보였지만 대부분 지점에서 일정한 비로 변동하는 경향을 보였다. 항목 간 상관분석결과 수온, EC, DO 항목은 측정망간 상관성이 매우 높았고, TOC, TN, TP 항목은 기본항목에 비해 낮은 상관성을 보였으나 일부 측정망을 제외하고 0.7 이상(상관계수 r)의 높은 상관관계를 나타냈다. 수질 지수 분석결과 자동측정망 수질지수와 수질측정망 수질지수가 비슷한 경향을 보이는 것으로 평가되었으며, 두 결과 모두 하류로 갈수록 지수점수는 낮아져 오염도가 증가되고 있음을 쉽게 파악할 수 있었다.

한.미 대학도서관의 구성요소와 직원규모와의 관계에 관한 비교 연구 (A comparative study on correlations between the related factors and the staff size of university libraries in Korea and United States of America)

  • This study is to analyze correlations between 10 factors related to university libraries and the number of professional staff, nonprofessional staff, and total library staff of university libraries in Korea and United States of America. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. In the case of Korea, there are high positive correlations between the number of total library staff and 7 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.76-0.99) ; between the number of professional staff and 7 of 10 variables, same as the above (coefficient : 0.76-0.99) ; between the number of nonprofessional staff and 4 of 10 variables (coefficient 0.73-0.93). In the case of America, there are high positive correlations between the number of total library staff and 6 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.74-0.97) ; between the number of professional staff and 5 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.78-0.87): between the number of nonprofessional staff and 6 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.73-0., 96). 2. All the. rank orders of correlation coefficients of two countries show little significant difference, by the results of the Spearman's Rank Order Correlation analysis (coefficient : total staff, 0.9152: professional staff, 0.8667 ; nonprofessional staff, 0.9030) 3. In the case of Korea, among the above factors, correlations of the total university expenditure and the library expenditure show a significant difference more than ones of the other factors. On the other hand, in the case of American professional staff, the correlations of the library expenditure, the library materials expenditure and the volumes in library show a significant difference more than ones of the other factors, while in the case of American nonprofessional staff, only the library expenditure shows a significant difference more than the others. 4. In the results of the correlation analysis between the professional staff and nonprofessional staff in Korea, the number of graduate enrollments, volumes in library, library expenditure and total university expenditure show higher positive correlation to the professional staff than the nonprofessional staff. However, in the case of America, the library expenditure and the library materials expenditure show higher positive correlation to the nonprofessional staff than the professional staff, while the university expenditure per student shows higher positive correlation to the professional staff. 5. In the results of the correlation analysis between Korea and America, in the case of the total library staff, the undergraduate enrollments, the total university expenditure and the library expenditure show higher positive correlation to Korea than America, and in the case of the professional staff, the graduate, enrollments, the volumes in library and the above 3 factors also show higher positive correlation to Korea than America. But in the case of the nonprofessional staff, the graduate enrollments, the volumes in library and library materials expenditure show higher correlation to America than Korea, while the total university expenditure shows the o n.0, pposit phenomenon of the above. And the other factors by the type of staff are little significant difference between two countries.

교사가 인식하는 교사발달과 조직갈등이 학교조직효과성에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Teachers' Development and Organizational Conflicts on School Organizational Efficiency)

  • The purposes of this study are to analysis correlations of teachers' developments, organizational conflicts, and school organizational efficiency, and to test the influences of teachers' developments and organizational conflicts on school organizational efficiency. The data were collected from 240 elementary school teachers in Busan. Pearson's correlation analysis among sub-factors and stepwised multiple regression analysis were applied. The research findings are as follows: First, most of the sub-factors of teachers' developments, organizational conflict, and organizational efficiency had statistically significant correlations, showing positive correlation between sub-factors of teachers' developments and organizational efficiency and negative correlation between sub-factors of organizational conflicts and organizational efficiency. Second, through stepwised multiple regression analysis at the significance level of 5%, 'conflicts against administrator' was the most significant predictor with 31.4% explanation of the variance of organizational efficiency. These results suggest the necessity of training to promote teachers' developments and administrators' leadership.
