  • It has been reported that copper and copper alloys have a large anisotropy of functional properties such as electrical, thermal and mechanical properties, which means that the texture of polycrystalline alloy should be considered to achieve better properties. In this study, the determination of grain growth orientation and texture formation in the cold-rolled, heat-treated and Ni-plated hybrid copper sheets was investigated. Grain growth direction and texture formation were analyzed by the X-ray pole figure. The influence of texture on the mechanical properties could be quantitatively confirmed by the results from the orientation distribution function and the tensile test. The heat-treated texture in the cold-rolled hybrid copper sheet is also investigated and discussed.

  • Due to naturally formed copper oxides, the adhesion strength between copper and epoxy resin is often very poor. To improve the adhesion strength between copper and epoxy resin, Cu-based leadframe sheets were oxidized in a brown-oxide forming solution. Then the effect of brown-oxide formation on the adhesion strength of leadframe to epoxy molding compound (EMC) was studied using pull-out specimens. After the pull-out test, fracture surfaces were analyzed using SEM, AES and EDS to determine failure path. The results showed that the failure path lay over inside the CuO and inside the EMC irrespective of the pull strength.

  • The burr of micro drilling and micro cutting on thin metal film is a major obstacle to mass production for micro PCB boards in micro technologies of personal computing and telecom explosion. As the burr affects on the assembling process, it is necessary to study continuously on control or elimination of the burr. In order to get higher valued products, it is also needed to competitive techniques with the high resolution. In this paper, we studied experimentally the burr generation that when it is processed on the copper foil by laser in micro-hole machining. Unlike mechanical machining the burr produced on substrate is a resultants of melt and re-solidification of a melten metal which was heated and treated by laser. And higher laser energy increases the size of burr. Therefor in micro-drilling with laser, it is difficult to reduce the effects of burr for very thin metal sheets. We investigated the stale of the burr and analyzed the laser ablation Cu micro machining with respect to laser intensity and processing time.

  • Silver is one of the most appropriate Jewelry materials for Jewelry casting and bench working. The technique known as 'Mokumegane' is good for making silver jewelry with natural patterns, such as wood grain patterns, but the process is not easy for silversmithing because it requires complicated and heavy labour. Instead of using conventional Mokumegane technique, we propose a new modified silver-copper casting process that enables a similar surface effect with good metal bonding strength between silver and copper. Simply pouring the molten silver into pre-aligned copper granules or 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm-thick copper sheets leads to well embedded copper silver ingots. The rolled silver plates from those ingots show excellent bonding interface even after the silver plate rolled ten times. We successfully fabricated prototype rings with copper embedded silver plates. Our result implies that our newly proposed process nay be a simpler way to fabricate silver jewelry with a pseudo-Mokumegane effect.

  • Copper-based leadframe sheets were immersed in two kinds of hot alkaline solutions to form brown-oxide or black-oxide layer on the surface. The oxide-coated leadframe sheets were molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). After post mold curing, the oxide-coated EMC-leadframe joints were machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens. The SDCB specimens were used to measure the fracture toughness of the EMC/leadframe interfaces under quasi-Mode I loading conditions. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment to investigate failure path. The present paper deals with the failure path, and the cause of the failure path formation with an adhesion model will be treated in the succeeding paper.

The adhesion model is based on the strengthening mechanism of fiber-reinforced composite. The present paper deals with the introduction of the adhesion model. The explanation of the failure path with the proposed adhesion model was introduced in the companion paper.

  • Various concentration of copper was dopped in Fe-35%Ni thin sheet by electroforming and their electromagnetic, surface properties were determined. Microstructure observation by scanning electron microscopy revealed that the thin sheet had columnar grains with about 150 nm long. Phase analysis by X-ray diffractometry revealed that the alloy thin sheets were fine crystalline. The average surface roughnesses measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) were about 14.38 nm. Nano hardnesses determined by tribo-nano indenter were 4.13 GPa. The surface resistances were 2.28 ohm/sq. The maximum magnetization, residual magnetization and coercive force depended on the copper concentration.

  • 48-V ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) system has attracted attention to improve the fuel efficiency of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle. One of the key components that significantly affects the cost and performance of the 48-V ISG system is the motor. In an ISG motor, the core and copper loss make the motor efficiency change because the motor has a broad driving operated range and more diverse driving modes compared with other motors. When designing an ISG motor, the selection of an electrical steel sheet is important, because the electrical steel sheet directly influences the efficiency of the motor. In this paper, the efficiency of the ISG motor, considering core loss and copper loss, is analyzed by testing different types of electrical steel sheets with respect to the driving speed range and mode. Using the results of a finite element method (FEM) analysis, a method to select the electrical steel sheet is proposed. This method considers the cost of the steel sheet and the efficiency according to driving mode frequency during the design process of the motor. A wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) was applied to the ISG motor in this study.

  • Annealing characteristics of an oxygen free copper (OFC) processed by differential speed rolling (DSR) were investigated in detail. An OFC sample with a thickness of hum was rolled to 35% reduction at ambient temperature without lubrication, varying the differential speed ratio from 1.0:1 to 2.2:1, and then annealed for 0.5h at various temperatures from 100 to $400^{\circ}C$. Different recrystallization behavior was observed depending on the differential speed ratio, especially in the case of annealing at $200^{\circ}C$ Complete recrystallization occurred in the specimens annealed at temperatures above $250^{\circ}C$ regardless of the differential ratios. The hardness distribution in the thickness direction of the rolled OFC sheets varied depending on the differential speed ratios. These annealing characteristics were explained by the magnitude of shear strain introduced during rolling.
