The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of a Cu-supported honeycomb catalyst as a catalyst for decomposition of a low toxic liquid propellant based on ammonium dinitramide (ADN). A mixture of copper, lanthanum, and alumina was supported on the honeycomb support by wash coating to prepare a Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst. We elucidated that the effect of metal loading on the physicochemical properties of Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst and catalytic performance in decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant. As the number of wash coatings increased, the amount of active metal Cu was increased to 4.1 wt%. The BET surface area of the Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst was in the range of 3.1~4.1 ㎡/g. The micropores were hardly present in Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalysts, however, the mesopores and macropores were well developed. The Cu (2.7 wt%)-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst exhibited the highest activity in the decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant, which is attributed to the largest surface area, the largest pore volume, and the well-developed mesopores and macropores.
The phase of Cu,Zn,Al precursors strongly affects the activity of their final catalysts. Herein, the Cu,Zn,Al precursor was prepared by precipitation of $Al^{3+}$ onto primitive, amorphous Cu,Zn precipitate. This precursor turned out to be a phase mixture of zincian malachite and hydrotalcite in which the latter phase was less abundant compared to the co-precipitated precursor. The final catalyst derived from this precursor exhibited a little higher copper surface area and methanol synthesis activity than the co-precipitated counterpart. Therefore, the two precursor phases need to be mixed in an adequate proportion for the preparation of active $Cu/ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst.

The effects of surface modification by nitric acid on the pre-treatment of electroless copper plating were investigated. Copper was electroless-plated on the nitric acid treated graphite activated by a two-step pre-treatment process (sensitization + activation). The chemical state and relative quantities of the various surface species were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) after nitric acid modification or pre-treatment. The acid treatment increased the surface roughness of the graphite due to deep and fine pores and introduced the oxygen-containing functional groups (-COOH and O-C=O) on the surface of graphite. In the pre-treatment step, the high roughness and many functional groups on the nitric acid treated graphite promoted the adsorption of Sn and Pd ions, leading to the uniform adsorption of catalyst ($Pd^0$) for Cu deposition. In the early stage of electroless plating, a lot of tiny copper particles were formed on the whole surface of acid treated graphite and then homogeneous copper film with low variation in thickness was formed after 30 min.

Two new C2-symmetric chiral $\alpha-$ and w-Diimines incorporating bulky ferrocenylethylamine and their copper(I)complexes have been synthesized and characterized by analytical and various spectroscopic techniques. The catalytic activities of these complexes have been tested in the asymmetric cyclopropanation of a series of olefins with some diazoacetates to achieve varying degree of dia- and enantio-selectivities depending on the nature of the ligand, the substrates, and the reagents. Some mechanistic implication has been made with regard to the interactions among all these chemical species.
The copper oxide nano powders were synthesized by levitational gas condensation (LGC) method, and were applied to catalyst to fabricate 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-one. Processes of adsorption of Biginelli reaction reagents on the copper nanooxide surface $Cu_2O{\circ}CuO$ were studied by IR-spectroscopy. It was shown that benzaldehyde coordination, acetoacetic ether on the oxide surface is carried out with participation of carbonyl fragments, urea by N-H bonds which affects positively on the reagents reactivity.
The synthesis of dimethyl carbonate by liquid phase oxidative carbonylation of methanol was studied under batch reaction system. Reaction factors such as effect on various metals, anion containing in copper catalyst, temperature, carbon monoxide and oxygen molar ratio and copper content were investigated. In particular $CuCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ showed the excellent of the methanol conversion 65.2%, DMC selectivity 96.6% reaction condition under 1.0 g, $150^{\circ}C$, MeOH/CO/$O_2$=0.2/0.215/0.05 (molar ratio). $CuCl_2$ led to corrosion of the reactor. Thus, a new catalyst system using supports was investigated to resolve these corrosion problem. Influence on various supports were examined and copper catalyst supported on zeolite Y showed the most excellent activity on the formation of dimethyl carbonate. The amount of Fe dissolved during the reaction using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer) was compared with catalysts, calcined Cu/zeolite Y showed the lower value below 5% than $CuCl_2-2H_2O$.

In this study, the Cu catalyst decorated with activated carbon fibers were prepared for improving $SO_2$ adsorption properties. Flame retardant and heat treatments of Lyocell fibers were carried out to obtain carbon fibers with high yield. The prepared carbon fibers were activated by KOH solution for the high specific surface area and controlled pore size to improve $SO_2$ adsorption properties. Copper nitrate was also used to introduce the Cu catalyst on the activated carbon fibers (ACFs), which can induce various reactions in the process; i) copper nitrate promotes the decomposition reaction of oxygen group on the carbon fiber and ii) oxygen radical is generated by the decomposition of copper oxide and nitrates to promote the activation reaction of carbon fibers. As a result, the micro and meso pores were formed and Cu catalysts evenly distributed on ACFs. By Cu-impregnation process, both the specific surface area and micropore volume of carbon fibers increased over 10% compared to those of ACFs only. Also, this resulted in an increase in $SO_2$ adsorption capacity over 149% than that of using the raw ACF. The improvement in $SO_2$ adsorption properties may be originated from the synergy effect of two properties; (i) the physical adsorption from micro, meso and specific surface area due to the transition metal catalyst effect appeared during Cu-impregnation process and ii) the chemical adsorption of $SO_2$ gas promoted by the Cu catalyst on ACFs.
CuO(x)/0.3Al-0.7Ce catalysts with different CuO loadings (x = 2~20 wt%) were prepared by impregnation method and investigated the effects of CuO loadings on the low temperature CO oxidation. Of the used catalysts, the CuO(10)/0.3Al-0.7Ce catalyst showed the highest catalytic performance in the absence or presence of water vapor. In the presence of water vapor, the catalytic performance was drastically decreased, with a temperature of 50% CO conversion ($T_{50%}$) shifted to higher temperature by $50^{\circ}C$ compared to the those in dry conditions because of the competitive adsorption of water vapor on the active sites. The copper metal surface area calculated from $N_2O$-titration analysis and the oxygen capacity from CO-pulse experiments were increased with the CuO loadings and showed a maximum at 10 wt%CuO/0.3Al-0.7Ce catalyst. These trends are in good agreement with the tendency of $T_{50%}$ of the catalysts. From these characteristic aspects, it could be deduced that the catalytic performance was closely related to the oxygen capacity and the copper metallic surface area.

Pitch based activated carbon fiber(ACF) was prepared from reformed naphtha cracking bottom oil(NCB oil) by melt spinning. The fibers obtained were stabilized, carbonized, and then steam activated. The ACF was sensitized with Pd-Sn catalytic nuclei via a single-step activation approach. This sensitized ACF was used as precursors for obtaining copper plated ACFs via electroless plating. ACFs uniformly decorated with metal particles were obtained with reduced copper plating in the reaction solution. Effects of the amount of copper on characteristics of ACF/Cu catalysts were investigated through BET surface area, X-ray diffraction, scanning emission microscopy, and ICP. The amount of copper increased with plating time, but the surface area as well as the pore volume decreased. NO conversion increased with reaction temperature. NO conversion decreased with increasing the amount of copper, which is seemed to be due to the reduction of surface area as well as the dispersion of copper.

The recycling technology by the catalytic conversion is one of the most promising techniques for the $CO_2$ treatment of coal burning power plant flue gases. The conversion of $CO_2$ to valuable product of $CH_4$ can be used as a fuel to run the turbine for electricity generation. Through this technique, the amount of coal needed for the combustion in a gas turbine can be reduced as well as $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore, a series of catalysts based on cerium oxide doped with copper, nickel and manganese were prepared by impregnation method. From the characterization analysis, it showed that the prepared catalysts calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ were amorphous in structure with small particle size in the range below 100 nm. Meanwhile, the catalyst particles were aggregated and agglomerated with higher surface area of $286.70m^2g^{-1}$. By increasing the calcination temperature of catalysts to $1000^{\circ}C$, the particle sizes were getting bigger (> 100 nm) and having moderate crystallinity with lower surface area ($67.90m^2g^{-1}$). From the catalytic testing among all the prepared catalysts, Mn/Ce-75/$Al_2O_3$ calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ was assigned as the most potential catalyst which gave 49.05% and 56.79% $CO_2$ conversion at reaction temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively.
