발효조의 냉각량 연속 측정 및 이를 이용한 유가배양제어 (On-line Measurement of Cooling Rate of a Fermenter and its Application for Fed-batch Control)

  • 발효조의 냉각수 공급 제어 신호와 냉각수의 유출입 지점의 온도를 온라인으로 측정하여 이 값들로부터 냉각량을 추정할 수 있는 실험식을 얻었다. 회분식 배양을 통하여 냉각량이 온라인으로 측정될 수 있음을 확인하였고 기질의 재투입시 냉각량의 변화를 통하여 유가배양의 제어변수로 활용할 수 있음을 점검하였다. 미리 프로그램된 목표 냉각량의 증가곡선에 따라 냉각량이 증가되면서 세포가 자라도록 유가배양을 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 냉각량의 온라인 측정방법을 제시하였고 이를 유가배양 제어변수로 활용하여 세포의 성장속도를 조절할 수 있음을 보였다.

Analysis of steam generator tube rupture accidents for the development of mitigation strategies

  • We analyzed mitigation strategies for steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) accidents using MARS code under both full-power and low-power and shutdown (LPSD) conditions. In general, there are two approaches to mitigating SGTR accidents: supplementing the reactor coolant inventory using safety injection systems and depressurizing the reactor coolant system (RCS) by cooling it down using the intact steam generator. These mitigation strategies were compared from the viewpoint of break flow from the ruptured steam generator tube, the core integrity, and the possibility of the main steam safety valves opening, which is associated with the potential release of radiation. The "cooldown strategy" is recommended for break flow control, whereas the "RCS make-up strategy" is better for RCS inventory control. Under full power, neither mitigation strategy made a significant difference except for on the break flow while, in LPSD modes, the RCS cooldown strategy resulted in lower break and discharge flows, and thus less radiation release. As a result, using the cooldown strategy for an SGTR under LPSD conditions is recommended. These results can be used as a fundamental guide for mitigation strategies for SGTR accidents according to the operational mode.

Impedance investigation of the surface film formed on aluminum alloy exposed to nuclear reactor emergency core coolant

  • A method was proposed for in-situ evaluating the thickness and resistivity of the oxide/hydroxide film formed on the surface of aluminum alloy exposed to sump water formed in the containment after a loss-of-coolant accident. The evaluation entailed fitting a model for the film impedance, which has film thickness and other variables describing the resistivity profile of the film along its thickness direction as fitting parameters, to the practically measured electrochemical impedance data. The obtained resistivity profiles implied that the films formed at pHs25℃ 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 all had a duplex structure; compared to the outer layer in contact with the solution, the inner layer of the film had a much higher resistivity and was inferred to be denser and provide most of the protectiveness of the film. Both the thickness and the total resistance of the film decreased with the increasing solution pH25℃, suggesting that the films formed in more alkaline solutions had less protectiveness against corrosion, consistent with the increasing aluminum alloy corrosion rates previously identified.

  • Air grinding time in grinding process has a great effect on its efficiency due to low feedrate. This paper presents a reduction methos of air grinding time in cylindrical plunge grinding operation. Tje reduction of air grinding time is accomplished by finding the distance between contact point and rising point of ultra- sonic signal of the grinding wheel to workpiece. It uses a variation of sound signal generated by the flow of coolant when the grinding wheel approaches to workpiece. The ultrasonic sensor with 23 kHz center fre- quency and 8 kHz bandwidth is used to find the nearest approaching point(NAP). Monitoring and control system of the grinding conditions is implemented with CNC controller to control feedrate override and ultrasonic sensor to find NAP. The experimental result shows that the ultrasonic signal is a good measure- ment to find NAP. But it needs the considerations for the effect of the relationship between flowrate of coolant and diameter of workpiece.

Supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor and cold shutdown system for ship propulsion

  • A neutronics study of a supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core for nuclear propulsion has been performed in this work. The thermal power of the reactor core is 30 MWth and a ceramic UO2 fuel can be used to achieve a 20-year lifetime without refueling. In order to make a compact core with inherent safety features, the drum-type reactivity control system and folding-type shutdown system are adopted. In addition, we suggest a cold shutdown system using gadolinium as a spectral shift absorber (SSA) against flooding. Although there is a penalty of U-235 enrichment for the core embedded with the cold shutdown system, it effectively mitigates the increment of reactivity at the flooding of seawater. In this study, the neutronics analyses have been performed by using the continuous energy Monte Carlo Serpent 2 code with the evaluated nuclear data file ENDF/B-VII.1 Library. The supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core is characterized in view of important safety parameters such as the reactivity worth of reactivity control systems, fuel temperature coefficient (FTC), coolant temperature coefficient (CTC), and coolant temperature-density coefficient (CTDC). We can say that the suggested core has inherent safety features and enough flexibility for load-following operation.

Core design study of the Wielenga Innovation Static Salt Reactor (WISSR)

  • This paper presents the design features and preliminary design analysis results of the Wielenga Innovation Static Salt Reactor (WISSR). The WISSR incorporates features that make it both flexible and inherently safe. It is based on innovative technology that controls a nuclear reactor by moving molten salt fuel into or out of the core. The reactor is a low-pressure, fast spectrum transuranic (TRU) burner reactor. Inherent shutdown is achieved by a large negative reactivity feedback of the liquid fuel and by the expansion of fuel out of the core. The core is made of concentric, thin annular fuel chambers containing molten fuel salt. A molten salt coolant passes between the concentric fuel chambers to cool the core. The core has both fixed and variable volume fuel chambers. Pressure, applied by helium gas to fuel reservoirs below the core, pushes fuel out of a reservoir and up into a set of variable volume chambers. A control system monitors the density and temperature of the fuel throughout the core. Using NaCl-(TRU,U)Cl3 fuel and NaCl-KCl-MgCl2 coolant, a road-transportable compact WISSR core design was developed at a power level of 1250 MWt. Preliminary neutronics and thermal-hydraulics analyses demonstrate the technical feasibility of WISSR.

  • The design and implementation of thyristor water cooling control systems in considered in this pape Coolant water is pumped through the thyristor heat sinks where heat is transferred from the thyristo to the water. This water is then pumped through outdoor air-to-water heat exchangers where heat I transferred to the outside air. Since the water must be pure, it is filtered and de-ionized. Also the water temperature must be below dew-point temperature. Redundant pumps, outdoor heat exchangers, power supply system, controller monitoring system are provided for system reliability and availability.

천적 곤충 포장 표준화에 관한 연구 (Packaging Standardization for Biological Control Agents)

  • 본 연구는 천적 곤충을 운송하는 동안 제품의 품질을 유지할 수 있는 포장 표준화 방안을 마련하고자 수행되었다. 먼저 4개 업체의 천적 제품 유통 현황을 분석한 결과, 평균 배송 소요시간인 36 ~ 48시간동안 평균 25.6℃(최저온도: 18.1℃, 최고온도: 30.7℃)를 유지하는 것을 확인하였다. 계절별 최적의 포장방법을 구축하기 위하여 0 ~ 30℃ 범위에서 5℃ 간격으로 7개의 외부온도조건을 설정하였다. 또한 보냉제의 취급방법별 내부온도 유지성능평가를 실시해 14건의 포장조합을 도출하였다. 도출한 포장조합을 외부온도조건에 맞춰, 포장 후 12시간 이내의 직접 배송 또는 36 ~ 48시간이 소요되는 일반 배송기간 동안 최소한의 에너지로 천적의 생존을 유지할 수 있는 발육영점온도에 근접한 3.0 ~ 9.9℃로 유지할 수 있는 포장조합을 제시하였다.

  • 프랑스의 1300 MWe 급(級) 표준(標準) P'4형 PWR 원전(原電)의 일차냉각재상실사고(一次冷却材喪失事故)(LOCA)시(時) 원전(原電) 주제어가내(主制御家內) 운전원(運轉員)에 대한 고사선(故射線) 피습선량(被濕線量)을 계산하여 주제어실(主制御室)의 체류안전성(滯留安全性)을 평가(評價)하였다. 본(本) 평가(評價)에서 사용(使用)된 제가정(諸假定)은 프랑스의 표준안전성분석보고서(漂準安全性分析報告書)에 따랐다. 본(本) 평가(評價)를 위하여 LOCA 사고시(事故時) 원자로건물외(原子爐建物外)로 방출(放出)되는 방사핵종(放射核種)의 방사능(放射能), 주제어실(主制御室)에서의 체적인자(體積因子) 및 제어실내(制御室內) 운전원(運轉員)의 전신(全身) 및 갑상선(甲狀膳) 피폭선량(被爆線量)을 사고발생후(事故發生後) 30일까지 전산(電算)할 수 있는 간단한 전산(電算)프로그램, COREX를 개발(開發)하였다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서 얻어진 계산결과(計算結果)는 대체적으로 프랑스의 EDF(불란서 전력주식회사(電力株式會社) 에서 제안(提案)한 결과(結果)와 대체적으로 잘 일치(一致)하였으나, 전신외부피폭선량(全身外部被爆線量)의 값은 일부(一部) 체적인자(體積因子) 값의 차이로 인(因)하여 일부 편차(偏差)를 보였다.

  • In this paper, an electronic control unit of the automobile engine for optimal fuel injection an spark timing control has been designed and developed. This system includes hardware and software for a precise control of fuel injection and ignition timing. Especially, the crank angle sensor provides two separate signals: One is the position signal (POS) which indicates 180 degree pulses per revolution, and the other is the reference signal (REF) that represents each cylinder individually. Consequently, the developed engine control system has been able to control fuel injection and ignition timing more quickly and accurately. Through the experiment, it has been found that the fuel injection duration and the position of MBT have been influenced by coolant temperature, air flow rate and engine speed.
