A damage-reduced trench was investigated in view of the defect distribution along trench sidewall and bottom using high resolution transmission electron microscopy, which was formed by HBr plasma and additive gases in magnetically enhanced reactive ion etching system. Adding $O_2$ and other additive gases into HBr plasma makes it possible to eliminate sidewall undercut and lower surface roughness by forming the passivation layer of lateral etching. To reduce the RIE induced damage and obtain the fine shape trench corner rounding, we investigated the hydrogen annealing effect after trench formation. Silicon atomic migration on trench surfaces using high temperature hydrogen annealing was observed with atomic scale view. Migrated atoms on crystal surfaces formed specific crystal planes such as (111), (113) low index planes, instead of fully rounded comers to reduce the overall surface energy. We could observe the buildup of migrated atoms against the oxide mask, which originated from the surface migration of silicon atoms. Using this hydrogen annealing, more uniform thermal oxide could be grown on trench surfaces, suitable for the improvement of oxide breakdown.
Pebble flow characteristics can be significantly affected by the configuration of pebble bed, especially for HTGR pebble beds. How to achieve a desired uniform flow pattern without stagnation is the top priority for reactor design. Pebbles flows inside some specially designed pebble bed with arc-shaped contraction configurations at the bottom, including both concave-inward and convex-outward shapes are explored based on discrete element method. Flow characteristics including pebble retention, residence-time frequency density, flow uniformity as well as axial velocity are investigated. The results show that the traditionally designed pebble bed with cone-shape bottom is not the most preferred structure with respect to flow pattern for reactor design. By improving the contraction configuration, the flow performance can be significantly enhanced. The flow in the convex-shape configuration featured by uniformity, consistency and less stagnation, is much more desirable for pebble bed design. In contrast, when the shape is from convex-forward to concave-inward, the flow shows more nonuniformity and stagnation in the corner although the average cross-section axial velocity is the largest due to the dominant middle pebbles.

An experimental study on the flow over the axisymmetric backward-facing step was carried out. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of the boundary layer thickness at the separation point on the reattachment length and to understand the structure of the recirculating flows. Local mean and fluctuating velocity components were measured in the separating and reattaching axisymmetric turbulent boundary layer over the wall of convex cylinder placed in a water tunnel by using 2-color 4-beam fiber optics laser Doppler velocimetry. The study demonstrated that the reattachment length increases with increasing boundary layer thickness. It was also observed that the reverse flow velocity and turbulent kinetic energy decrease with an increase in the momentum thickness at the separation point. The measured velocity field suggests that the boundary layer thickness at the separation can affect definitely on the formation of corner eddy.
The attitude aerodynamic control is an important subject in the design of an aerospace plane. Usually, at high altitudes, this control is fulfilled by thrusters so that the implementation of an aerodynamic control of the vehicle has the advantage of reducing the amount of thrusters fuel to be loaded on board. In the present paper, the efficiency of a wing-flap has been evaluated considering a NACA 0010 airfoil with a trailing edge flap of length equal to 35% of the chord. Computational tests have been carried out in hypersonic, rarefied flow by a direct simulation Monte Carlo code at the altitudes of 65 and 85 km, in the range of angle of attack 0-40 deg. and with flap deflection equal to 0, 15 and 30 deg.. Effects of the flap deflection have been quantified by the variations of the aerodynamic force and of the longitudinal moment. The shock wave-boundary layer interaction and the shock wave-shock wave interaction have been also considered. A possible interaction of the leading edge shock wave and of the shock wave arising from the vertex of the convex corner, produced on the lower surface of the airfoil when the flap is deflected, generates a shock wave whose intensity is stronger than those of the two interacting shock waves. This produces a consistent increment of pressure and heat flux on the lower surface of the flap, where a thermal protection system is required.
Vibration sensors have a wide scope of applications in the field of monitoring systems that needs to perceive an undesirable physical vibration before a critical failure occurs in a system, and then costly unplanned repairs can be avoided. The conventional vibration sensors developed so far have many disadvantages, such as complex manufacturing process, bulkiness, high cost, less reliability and so on. This paper reports a simple-structured vibration sensor, which has been developed using a commercialized conductive ball and silicon bulk-micromachining technology. The sensor consists of a conductive ball placed in $600{\mu}m$-deep micromachined silicon groove, in which Au thin film has been patterned using a shadow mask technique. Prior to the formation of the Au thin film, the sharp convex corner was rounded for smooth meatl deposition on the non-planar surface at the edge of the groove. The measurement results of the fabricated vibration sensor demonstrate a stable response characteristic to low-frequency vibration range ($1{\sim}30{\;}Hz$).
Face gear transmission is widely used in aerospace shunt-confluence transmission system. Tooth wear is one of the main factors affecting its bearing transmission performance. Furthermore, the installation errors of face gear are inevitable. In order to study the wear mechanism of face gear tooth surface with installation errors, based on tooth contact analysis numerical method and Archard wear theory, the UMESHMOTION subroutine in ABAQUS is developed.Combining with Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian adaptive mesh technology, the finite element mesh wear model of abraded face gear pair is established. The preprocessing conditions are set to generate the inp files. Then, the inp files for each corner are imported and batch processed in ABAQUS.The loading tooth contact problem at each rotation angle is solved and the load distribution coefficient among gear tooth, tooth root bending stress, tooth surface contact stress and loaded transmission error are obtained. Results show that the tooth root wear is the most serious and the wear at the pitch cone is close to 0.The wear law of tooth surface along tooth width direction is convex parabola and the wear law along tooth height direction is concave parabola.
In this study, the characteristics of support behavior according to the change of ground condition of the cast-in-place pile and the large Caisson foundation, which are increasingly used as foundations of large structures and bridges. the allowable bearing capacity calculated using the yield load analysis method was analyzed to calculate similar allowable bearing capacity for each method. In addition, the allowable bearing capacity calculated by the ultimate load analysis method was found to have a large difference in bearing capacity for each method. Through this point, it can be usefully used as an empirical formula for evaluating the settlement characteristics of piles in future design and construction. In addition, as a result of examining the ground force distribution during sedimentation of large caissons, the section of the weathered rock layer showed almost constant ground force distribution as ground forces decreased after yield occurred at the base corner. And in the bed rock layer section, the foundation's center was transformed into a ground force in the form of a convex downward due to an increase in the ground resistance of the central part. Using these results, the theory previously presented by Fang (1991) and Kőgler (1936) was proved.
The successful performance of any numerical geotechnical simulation depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical implementation of constitutive model used to simulate the stress-strain (constitutive) response of the soil. The corner stone of the numerical implementation of constitutive models is the numerical integration of the incremental form of soil-plasticity constitutive equations over a discrete sequence of time steps. In this paper a well known two-surface soil plasticity model is implemented using a generalized implicit return mapping algorithm to arbitrary convex yield surfaces referred to as the Closest-Point-Projection method (CPPM). The two-surface model describes the nonlinear behavior of coarse-grained materials by incorporating a bounding surface concept together with isotropic and kinematic hardening as well as fabric formulation to account for the effect of fabric formation on the unloading response. In the course of investigating the performance of the CPPM integration method, it is proven that the algorithm is an accurate, robust, and efficient integration technique useful in finite element contexts. It is also shown that the algorithm produces a consistent tangent operator $\frac{d\sigma}{d\varepsilon}$ during the iterative process with quadratic convergence rate of the global iteration process.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of Chinese traditional garden space construction principle studied by predecessors in modern park landscape, and to find more methods of traditional garden space construction inheritance and innovation through research. Tian Chaoyang's book "Fifteen Lectures on Chinese Classical Gardens and Modern Translation" mentions that Chinese traditional gardens are combining time and space, so he draws a brief pattern diagram containing the principle of the space construction. According to this principle of space construction, the researchers chose Qujiang Pool Heritage Park, which combines modern and traditional, then analyzed its spatial structure and and space elements. The results are as follows. The complex spatial structure of the park is composed of spatial boundary lines and spatial routes. The complex boundary space is composed of bridges, squares, plants, rows of buildings and other elements. The water space in the center of the park is designed in accordance with the traces of the historical water system, and its natural zigzag shoreline expands the water space. The central water space is divided into the big pool and the small pool, the Yanbo island and Bird island are created respectively. The building at the park boundary connects the park's interior and exterior. Most of the buildings in the park are located in the convex corner of the route or space. Through this research, it can be concluded that Qujiang park also applies the space construction principle combining time and space. And then, the garden elements of Qujiang park are recreating the history and culture of Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties with modern methods, thus creating a park with Chinese regional characteristics. Since the Tang dynasty was the most prosperous period in Qujiang, the park was dominated by Tang culture. Through the research of this paper, we can see that the space construction principle of Qujiang Pool Heritage Park is the inheritance of the space construction principle of Chinese traditional garden. And the landscape element of Qujiang park is the landscape created by combining traditional history and culture, which is the innovative part of modern garden. Through this study, the creation of modern landscape with Chinese characteristics can provide some hints on the direction of inheritance and innovation.
