Design of a High Efficiency Neutron Detector Using a GEM (GEM을 이용한 고효율 중성자 검출기 설계)

  • The radiation detector research group at KAERI has developed a high efficiency neutron detector using a Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM). The double GEM was fabricated and operated in an Ar/Isobutane mixture. For an application to a high efficiency neutron detector, $^6Li\;or\;^{10}B$ neutron converters coated on each surface of the multi GEM foils were considered. The optimized thickness of the thin film for a neutron detection was calculated with the MCNP and SRIM. The neutron efficiency was calculated by changing the chemical components of the thin film, and the thickness of the thin film. The thermalized neutrons were measured by a GEM detector with a thin neutron converter on the drift plate.

A Method to create transcoding path of unit transcoder considering QoS (QoS를 고려한 단위변환기의 변환 경로 생성 방법)

  • A multimedia converter is used to create media suitable for own environment. If the data complying with own demands can not be created, it may accompany with a problem that has to convert the data with another transcoder. In addition, conventional converters do not consider source QoS and target QoS sufficiently, meaning that users should have a significant knowledge base about various media in order to obtain desired results. These problems become limits on the UMA(Universal Multimedia Access) environment. In this paper, we create a suitable transcoding path before performing the Digital Item conversion in consideration of source QoS and target QoS. The created transcoding path performs the adaptive transcoding using unit exchanges featuring connectivity. The consideration of QoS allows users to use the multimedia easily. Since the proposed model, in addition, use the unit transcoder, it provides a excellent adaptive capability for new QoS.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the sea floor using a seismic profiler in the northern part of Chagwi-do of Jeju Island in order to select the optimal location for the 60-m-class berth of a sea test bed for wave energy converters and provide basic environmental data for designing a suction anchor. The echo types of the seismic profiles were classified based on the study of Kim et al. (2016a), and the location for installing the suction anchor was selected based on a sediment thickness of more than 10 m. The physical properties of the surface sediments were determined by analyzing the sediment samples obtained from 16 grab sample points. Based on the investigation and analysis, we proposed a survey area in the North-Eastern sea as an optimum location for the 60-m-class berth where the suction anchor could be installed.

  • This paper proposes a confronting feedback control structure and controllers for positive output elementary super lift Luo converters (POESLLCs) working in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The POESLLC offers the merits like high voltage transfer gain, good efficiency, and minimized coil current and capacitor voltage ripples. The POESLLC working in DCM holds the value of not having right half pole zero (RHPZ) in their control to output transfer function unlike continuous conduction mode (CCM). Also the DCM bestows superlative dynamic response, eliminates the reverse recovery troubles of diode and retains the stability. The proposed control structure involves two controllers respectively to control the voltage (outer) loop and the current (inner) loop to confront the time-varying ON/OFF characteristics of variable structured systems (VSSs) like POESLLC. This study involves two different combination of feedback controllers viz. the proportional integral controller (PIC) plus sliding mode controller (SMC) and the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) plus SMC. The state space averaging modeling of POESLLC in DCM is reviewed first, then design of PIC, FLC and SMC are detailed. The performance of developed controller combinations is studied at different working states of the POESLLC system by MATLAB-Simulink implementation. Further the experimental corroboration is done through implementation of the developed controllers in PIC 16F877A processor. The prototype uses IRF250 MOSFET, IR2110 driver and UF5408 diodes. The results reassured the proficiency of designed FLC plus SMC combination over its counterpart PIC plus SMC.

  • A This paper presents a novel three-phase current-fed Pulse Width Modulation converter with switched- capacitor type resonant DC link commutation circuit operating PWM pattern strategy under a design consideration of low-pass filter, which can operate on the basis of the principle of zero current soft-switching commutation. In the first place, the steady-state operating principle of this converter with a new resonant DC link snubber circuit is described in connection with the equivalent operation circuit, together with the practical design procedure of the switched-capacitor type resonant DC link circuit is discussed from a theoretical viewpoint on the basis of a design example for high-power applications. The actively delayed time correction method to compensate distorted currents due to a relatively long resonant commutation time is newly implemented in the open loop control scheme so as to acquire the new optimum PWM pattern. Finally, the experiment or set-up in laboratory system or this converter is concretely demonstrated herein to confirm a zero current soft-switching commutation of this converter. The comparative evaluations between current-fed hard switching PWM and soft-switching PWM converters are carried out from a viewpoint of their PWM converter characteristics.

  • Recently, DC-DC converters significantly increase the total losses as rising switching frequency. Trnditional soft switching technique for reducing switching losses even increase voltage/Clment stress of switch In this paper, Resonant circuit for soft switching is connected in parallel with power stage and only operates just before tum-on of the main sWItch. Therefore, ills doesn't affect the total circuit QI'||'&'||'pound;ration. The object of tIns paper is to make the linearized equivalent loss mxleIs. and to analyze the total losses by experiment. ZVT-PWlvI converter designed with 170-260[V] input, 400[V] 5[A] output, and 100[kHz] switching frequency is tested respectively with 500[W], 1[kW], 1.5[kW], and 2[kW] loads. The total losses in input 220[V], 2[kW] load are analyzed by usirm the linearized equivalent loss models.

  • Servomotors are used as key components of automated system by performing accurate positioning, accurate speed regulation, and precise motion control in response to commands from computers and sensors. Especially linear brushless servomotors have numerous advantages over ball screws, timing belts, rack/pinion drives and friction drives compared with rotary servomotors. This paper proposes the estimation of unknown parameters from the linear brushless DC motor which is operated by sinusoidal commutation. The estimated parameters are used to tune the controller gain and disturbance observer. In order to agree with this purpose, Digital Signal Processor(TMS320F240), developed for implementation of a speed Field Oriented Control(FOC), adopted in this study. The processor playing an important role in controller has A/D converters, PWM generators, riched I/O port internally.

  • Since the monolithic ceramic substrate was introduced for automotive catalytic converters, the durability of the substrate has been a continuing requirement to reduce the emission gas of vehicle. The substrate can occupy a volume as small as 82 $cm^3$ and as large as 8200 $cm^3$ to provide the required substrate for catalytic activity. The long-term durability varies with the size of the substrate from manufacture's point of view. Therefore This study presents that the response surface model using central composite design can explain size effect on the modulus of rupture in a cordierite ceramic monolithic substrate.

  • Recently, a fuel cell with low voltage and high current output characteristics is remarkable for new generation system. It needs both a dc-dc boost converter and dc-ac inverter to be used in fuel cell generation system. Therefore, this paper presents dc-dc active clamp current-fed half-bridge converter with ZVS for fuel cell generation system. The proposed converter has outstanding advantages over the conventional dc-dc converters with respect to high efficiency and high component utilization. The Fuel Cell generation system consist of active clamp current-fed half-bridge converter to boost the Fuel Cell(PEMFC) voltage(28∼43[Vdc]) to 380[Vdc]. A single phase full-bridge inverter is implemented to produce 220[Vac], 60[Hz] AC outputs.

  • In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of HTML Filter to provide wireless internet service efficiently. The HTML Filter translates the Web documents written by HTML into the WML documents for portable wireless equipments automatically that are suitable for the WAP environment. The HTML Filter consists of "the HTML lexical analyzer" which gathers HTML source into token units, "the HTML syntax analyzer" which takes the lexical units from the lexical analyzer and analyses grammar for the source, "the HTML abstract parser tree" which can represent meaning of HTML sources more effectively called an intermediate code, and "the target code generator" which can convert the abstract parser tree into WML documents. The proposed translating method using ordinary compiler technology provides more easy and effective than the existing converters, and will be applied to other wireless language translating methods on wireless internet.
