  • Experimental and computational studies were performed to investigate the effectiveness of a thrust vectoring method using a counterflow concept. A shadowgraph method was used to visualize the supersonic jet expanded from a two-dimensional convergent-divergent nozzle and deflected by a now suction. The primary nozzle pressure and suction nozzle pressure ratios are varied between 3.0 and 5.0, and between 0.2 and 1.0 respectively. The present experimental and computational results showed that, for a given primary nozzle pressure ratio, a decrease in the suction nozzle pressure ratio produced an increased thrust vector angle, and during the change processes of the suction pressure, a hysteresis effect of the thrust vectoring was found through the wall pressure distributions.

  • The supersonic, dual, coaxial jet impinging upon a vertical flat plate has recently been applied to a variety of industrial manufacturing processes, since it has several advantages over a conventional supersonic impinging jet. In the present study, experimentation is carried out to investigate the effects of the impinging angle of the annular flow and the design Mach number on the flow field formed over the vertical flat plate. A convergent-divergent nozzle is used to obtain the inner jet flow, its design Mach number being changed between $1.0\;and\;2.0$. The outer annular nozzle has a constant area of the Mach number of 1.0, and its impinging angle of $0^{\circ}\;and\;20^{\circ}$. The primary jet pressure ratio is changed in the range from 6.0 to 10.0 and for the annular flow, the assistant jet pressure ratio is changed from 1.0 to 4.0. The distance between the dual, coaxial nozzle and flat plate is also changed. Detailed pressure measurements are conducted along the axis of the jet and on the flat plate as well. The impinging coaxial Jet flows are visualized using the Schlieren and Shadow optical methods. The results show that the flow field on the plate is not strongly dependent only on the primary and assistant pressure ratios but also the impinging angle of the annular nozzle.

  • Surface modification of recycled plastic film-based aggregates is demonstrated to enhance the interaction between aggregates and cement paste. It is shown that the oxygen(O2) atmospheric pressure plasma(APP) treatment leads to a drastic increase in hydrophilicity. In case of the plasma treatment at 100W of RF power, 15/4sccm of O2/Ar flow rate and 30sec of discharging time, the water contact angle on the aggregates surface decreased from 104.5° to 44.0°. In addition, the contact angle of surface modified aggregates kept in air increased with time elapse. Improvement of hydrophilicity can be explained by the formation of new hydrophilic oxygen functional groups which is identified as C-OH, C-O-C, C=O, -COOH by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). Therefore, it can be concluded that the plasma treatment process is an effective method to improve adhesion of the recycled plastic film-based aggregates and cement paste.

  • This study investigated the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on the knee angle, MAS, and TUG of the affected side in patients with hemiplegic strokes. This study selected 20 patients who received rehabilitation treatment at a hospital after having been diagnosed with stroke. The control group (n=10) received the general physiotherapy (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), and the experimental group (n=10) applied the extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) to the injured limb after PNF treatment. This study used an integrated kinematics analyzer (4D-MT, Relive, Korea) to analyze walking, timed up and go test to evaluate the dynamic balance ability of patients, and MAS to evaluate the spasticity. In the study results, knee angle were significantly different in all groups(p<0.05) but there was no significant difference between the groups(p>0.05). In the study results, TUG were significantly different in all groups(p<0.05) but there was no significant difference between the groups(p>0.05). Based on the results of this study, I hope that more detailed research will proceed.

  • The microstructural evolution with isothermal stirring during semi-solid state processing of hypoeutectic Al-6.2wt%Si alloy was studied. Substructure of the individual primary solid particle in the slurry was investigated through transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Formation of subgrain boundaries on the rheocast Al-6.2wt%Si alloy is observed and the misorientation between the grains is shown typically under 2 degrees by analyzing selected area diffraction (SAD) and convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) patterns. The existence of high angle grain boundaries are also observed in the alloy. Based upon these observations, mechanisms for the primary particles fragmentation are considered. With isothermal stirring, the dislocation density increases, and the evolution of dislocation cell structure takes place, which is interpreted as a process of achieving uniform deformation by dynamic recovery under applied shear stress.

  • The shock structure of dual coaxial jet is experimentally investigated. Eight different kinds of coaxial, dual nozzles are employed to observe the major features of the near field shock structure on the supersonic, coaxial, dual jets. Four convergent-divergent supersonic nozzles having the Mach number 2.0 and 3.0 are used to compare the coaxial jet flows discharging from two sonic nozzles. The primary pressure ratio is changed in the range between 1.0 and 10.0, and the assistant jet ratio from 1.0 to 4.0. The results show that the impinging angle, nozzle geometry and pressure ratio significantly affect the near field shock structure, Mach disk location and Mach disk diameter.

  • The E-polarized scattering problems by a perfect conductor strip grating are analyzed by the method of moments. For an E-polarization the induced surface current density is expected to blow up at the strip both edges. Then the induced surface current density on the strip is expanded in a series of multiplication of Ultraspherical ploynomials with zeroth order and functions with appropriate edge boundary condition. The numerical results for current density and reflection cofficient are compared with other functions, it is shown that numerical results better improves the convergence of the moment method soulutions with general incident angles than the existing several other functions. The sharp variation points in the magnitude of geometric-optical reflection coefficient can be moved by varying the incident angle, strip width, and strip spacing.

  • A series of amphiphilic dendrons n-18 (n: generation number, 18: octadecyl chain) based on an aliphatic polyether denderitic core and octadecyl peripheries were synthesized using a convergent dendron synthesis consisting of a Williamson etherification and hydroboration/oxidation reactions. This study investigated their thermal and self-assembling behavior in the solid state using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) absorption spectroscopy, and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). DSC indicated that the melting transition and the corresponding heat of the fusion of the octadecyl chain decreased with each generation. FT-IR showed that the hydroxyl focal groups were hydrogen-bonded with one another in the solid state. DSC and FT-IR indicated microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic cores and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries. SAXS data analysis in the solid state suggested that the lower-generation dendrons 1-18 and 2-18 self-assemble into lamellar structures based upon a bilayered packing of octadecyl peripheries. In contrast, the analyzed data of higher-generation dendron 3-18 is consistent with 2-D oblique columnar structures, which presumably consist of elliptical cross sections. The data obtained could be rationalized by microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic core and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries, and the degree of interfacial curvature associated with dendron generation.

  • Stealthy, high maneuverability and super cruise abilities are required for the next generation fighter and unmanned aircraft. Thrust vector control technique currently come into use to meet these requirements. In this experimental study, axial and pitch thrust were measured and Schlieren visualization were carried out using the scaled two dimensional thrust vector nozzles under various pitch deflection angle, pitch flap length and height. From the study, we could get the supersonic flow characteristics and draw an optimum geometric configuration of the two dimensional thrust vector nozzle.

  • To understand the atomization performance in gas-liquid swirl-coaxial injector applied to a small rocket engine, a cold-flow test was performed by varying the design parameters and supply condition of propellants. As the swirl-chamber diameter and the angle of the convergent section, which are design parameters of injector increased, the spray performance of the injector improved by increasing the swirl strength. In addition, as the gas-liquid momentum-flux ratio increased, the gas flow separated some of the droplets from the liquid film, and a gas-droplet mixture core was formed in the center of the spray sheet.
