  • The convergence of traditional industry and ICT is a combination of security threats and vulnerabilities in ICT and specific industry-specific problems of existing industries, and new security threats and vulnerabilities are emerging. In particular, in the medical ICT convergence industry, various problems regarding user authentication are derived from the medical information system, which is being used for abuse and security weaknesses. According, this study designed and implemented a user authentication system for secure user management in medical ICT convergence environment. Specifically, we design and implement measures to solve the abuse and security weaknesses of ID sharing and to solve the inconvenience of individual ID / PW authentication by performing user authentication using personalized devices based on medical information systems.

  • A personal authentication system based on biosignals has received increasing attention due to its relatively high security as compared to traditional authentication systems based on a key and password. Electrocardiography (ECG) measured from the chest or wrist is one of the widely used biosignals to develop a personal authentication system. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of using similar ECG measured behind the ears to develop a personal authentication system. To this end, similar ECGs were measured from thirty subjects using a pair of three electrodes attached behind each of the ears during resting state during which the standard Lead-I ECG was also simultaneously measured from both wrists as baseline ECG. The three ECG components, Q, R, and S, were extracted for each subject as classification features, and authentication accuracy was estimated using support vector machine (SVM) based on a 5×5-fold cross-validation. The mean authentication accuracies of Lead I-ECG and similar ECG were 90.41 ± 8.26% and 81.15 ± 7.54%, respectively. Considering a chance level of 3.33% (=1/30), the mean authentication performance of similar ECG could demonstrate the feasibility of using similar ECG measured behind the ears on the development of a personal authentication system.

  • Traditional electroencephalography (EEG)-based authentication systems generally use external stimuli that require user attention and relatively long time for authentication. The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of biometric authentication based on EEG without using any external stimuli. Seventeen subjects took part in the experiment and their EEGs were measured while repetitively closing and opening their eyes. For identifying each subject, we calculated inter- and intra-subject cross-correlation using changes in alpha activity (8-13 Hz) during eyes closed as compared to eyes open. In order to optimize the number of recording electrodes, we calculated authentication accuracy by progressively reducing the number of electrodes used in the analysis. Significant increase in alpha activity was observed for all subjects during eyes closed, focusing on occipital areas, and spatial patterns of changed alpha activity were considerably different between the subjects. A mean authentication accuracy of 92.45% was obtained, which was retained over 75% when using only 8 electrodes placed around occipital areas. Our results could demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed novel authentication method based on resting state EEGs.

  • D-MAC protocol is used convergence network, which is designed to connect wireless link between things. This protocol is supported to local data exchange and aggregation among neighbor nodes, and distributed control packet from sink to sensor node. In this paper, we analysis about efficiency of power consumption according to whether or not security authentication of D-MAC in convergence network. If authentication scheme is applied to MAC communication, it is related to power consumption of preamble whether or not with and without authentication process. It is reduced to energy consumption against denial attack of service, when it is applied to authentication. Future work will take the effort to deal with security authentication scheme.

  • Recently, the security for RFID/USN environment is divided into network security and RFID security. The authentication protocol design for RFID security is studied to protect user privacy in RFID system. However, the study of efficient authentication protocol for RFID system is not satisfy a security for low-cost RFID tag and user privacy. Therefore, this paper proposes a secure matrix-based RFID authentication protocol that decrease communication overhead and computation. In result, the Matrix-based RFID authentication protocol is an effective authentication protocol compare with HB and $HB^+$ in traffic analysis attack and trace location attack.

  • There are many investigations about the security on RFID system to protect privacy. It is important to mutual authentication of the security on RFID system. The protocol for mutual authentication use light-weight operation such as XOR operation, hash function and re-encryption. However, the protocol for authentication and privacy is required more complicated cryptography system. In this paper, we propose a mutual authentication protocol using finite field GF($2^n$) for a authentication and are a safety analysis about various attacks.

  • As evidenced through rapidly growing digital devices and information, digital authentication is becoming ever more critical, especially considering the complex and prevalent digital accounts we are using every day. Also, digital authentication is apt to consistent digital security application. In this sense, digital security quality and usability can be enhanced by developing a mechanism for efficient digital authentication. In this paper, a mechanism of efficient digital authentication called T-TIME is introduced in order to alleviate issues dealing with secure and user friendly authentication across ever- growing digital devices and information. Touch Signal generation time difference is utilized for T-TIME as a mediation mechanism that enhances the security quality by confusing others unlike other graphical password mechanisms which are using spatial information. Hence, digital authentication by using T-TIME can be a good way of enhancing security quality and usability.

  • User authentication is the first step to network security. There are lots of authentication types, and more than one authentication method works together for user's authentication in the network. Except for biometric authentication, most authentication methods can be copied, or someone else can adopt and abuse someone else's credential method. Thus, more than one authentication method must be used for user authentication. However, more credential makes system degrade and inefficient as they log on the system. Therefore, without tradeoff performance with efficiency, this research proposed user's behavior based authentication for secure communication, and it will improve to establish a secure and efficient communication.

  • Users who use smartphone can using knowledge-based authentication, possession-based authentication, biometric-based authentication, and token-based authentication in order to access rights to systems requiring authentication. However, desktop computer users use method only ID and password, which are knowledge-based authentication factors, due to limitations of authentication devices, despite various authentication methods. In this paper, we designed and implemented a raspberry pi based authentication system that provides multiple authentication method of a user's desired type. The implementation system uses knowledge-based authentication, possessive-based authentication, biometric-based authentication, and token-based authentication. The proposed system can provide a security function that can be used by SMEs, which is difficult to hire a security officer due to the economic burden. The implemented system can be used not only for personal use but also for enterprise, and it can be applied to various fields such as finance and game.

  • In view of mutual complementary feature of wide coverage and high data rate, the interworking between 3G cellular network and WLAN is a global trend of wireless communications. This paper introduces the analytic result of an authentication mechanism for 3GPP-WLAN seamless mobility under the USIM-based authentication test-bed. In a handover process between heterogeneous networks, authentication is the main factor of handover delay. So authentication processing time should be firstly reduced. This paper describes an USTM-based EAP-AKA test-bed implemented for handover in UMTS and WLAN interworking systems. Experimental result has shown that the fast re-authentication mechanism during handover has reduced the handover delay by about 48.6%.
