  • X-ray grating interferometry has been an active area of research in recent years. In particular, various studies have been carried out for the practical use of the x-ray grating interferometer in medical and industrial fields. For the commercialization of the system, it needs to be optimized for its application. In this study, we have developed a prototype of the compact high energy x-ray grating interferometer of which the high effective energy and compactness is of our primary feature of design. We have designed the Talbot-Lau x-ray interferometer in a symmetrical geometry with an effective energy of 54.3 keV. The system has a source-to-analyzer grating distance of 788.4 mm, which is compact enough for a commercial product. In a normal operation, it took less than ten seconds to acquire a set of phase stepping images. The acquired images had a maximum visibility of about 15%, which is relatively high compared with the visibilities of the other high-energy grating interferometric systems reported so far.

  • X-ray microscopy with synchrotron radiation(SR) might be a useful tool for novel x-ray imaging in the clinical and laboratory settings. Microscopically, it enables us to observe detailed structure of animal organs samples with a great magnification power and an excellent resolution. The phase contrast mechanisms in image by X-ray are described. The phase-contrast X-ray imaging with SR from in-vivo and in-vitro mouse tail, rat nerve and rat lung were obtained with an 8 KeV monochromatic beam. The visual image was magnified using 10x microscope objective lens and captured using an digital CCD camera. The results showed more structural details and high resolution images with SR imaging system than conventional X-ray radiography system. The SR imaging system may have a potential for imaging in biological researches, material applications and clinical radiography.

  • This study aimed to establish an injection protocol to determine the precise CT scan timing in canine abdominal multi-phase CT using the test bolus method. Three dynamic scans with different contrast injection parameters were performed using a crossover design in eight normal beagle dogs. A contrast material was administered at a fixed dose of 200 mg iodine/kg as a test bolus for dynamic scans 1 and 2, and 600 mg iodine/kg as a main bolus for dynamic scan 3. The contrast materials were administered with 1 ml/s in dynamic scan 1, and 3 ml/s in dynamic scan 2 and 3. The mean arrival time to the appearance of aortic enhancement in dynamic scan 3 was similar to that in dynamic scan 2, and different significantly to that in dynamic scan 1. The mean arrival time to the peak aortic and pancreatic parenchymal enhancement in dynamic scan 3 was similar to that in dynamic scan 1, and different significantly to that in dynamic scan 2. In multi-phase CT scan, a test bolus should be injected with the same injection duration of a main bolus, to obtain the precise arrival times to peak of arterial or pancreatic parenchymal enhancement.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to study the analytical variability of A & B counting rules in counting using a phase contrast microscope airborne fibers collected on filters in man-made mineral or vitreous fibers (MMMFs) industries. Methods: Fibers in filters were counted using A & B rules of NIOSH Method 7400. Intra-counter and inter-counter variations by fiber type and density were obtained. The types of MMMFs analyzed were glass wool fiber, rock wool fiber, slag wool fiber, and refractory ceramic fibers. The densities of fibers classified were <20 $fibers/mm^2,$ 20 - <50 $fibers/mm^2$, 50 - <100 $fibers/mm^2,$ and ${\geq}100$ $fibers/mm^2,$ respectively. Results: Intra-counter relative standard deviations by rule A were 0.084, 0.102, 0.071 for glass wool fibers, rock wool fibers and refractory ceramic fibers, and those by rule B were 0.139, 0.120 and 0.142, respectively. Inter-counter relative standard deviations by rule A were 0.281, 0.296, 0.180 for glass wool fibers, rock wool fibers and refractory ceramic fibers, and those by rule B were 0.396, 0.337 and 0.238, respectively. Conclusions: Intra-counter variation was not different significantly among fiber types (p>0.05), but B rule variation for ceramic fibers approximately 2 times greater than corresponding A rule estimates, and intra-counter and inter-counter variations were higher in the low fiber density.

  • We synthesized a contrast agent for MRI that is capable of binding to the ABP-1 receptor and enhancing the contrast of the targeted cells. We used a lysine dendrimer (G=3)DTPA[Gd] as the contrast agent and synthesized a biotinylated polyclonal antibody for ABP-1 as the first antibody. Lysine dendrimers were prepared using the solid phase peptide synthesis method.$^3$ Amino-terminated lysine dendrimers were then coupled to DTPA using the anhydride method. Gd was complexed with the DTPA-lysine dendrimer in an acidic solution of 3 eq GdCl$_3$ to one of DTPA. The lysine dendrimer-DTPA[Gd] and avidin were conjugated in MES solution, pH 6.0, using EDC as the coupling reagent. The biotin-avidin system was used to link the polyclonal antibody and contrast agent. K562 cells were used for imaging.

  • The characteristics of harmonic phase angles and phase angle differences contained in earthquake ground motions such as El Centre 1530 NS, Taftl 1952 NS, Hachinohe 1968 NS and Mexico 1985 are figured, which have been mostly overlooked in contrast with the importance placed on harmonic amplitudes. And, energy input spectrum of structures excited by such an earthquake motion is expressed with smoothed Fourier amplitude spectrum. In dynamic response analysis, there must be earthquake ground accelerations which contain the phase angle, the phase angle difference and energy input spectrum characteristics of the zone considered to be constructed building structures. To make clear the importance of phase angle differences, 4-earthquake ground motions are normalized by 200 gal and energy input spectrum characteristics of normalized 4-earthquake ground motions are compared.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect on the selectivity on of high-voltage rectification device that measured the performance of the grid, and the contrast improvement ability (K factor) by measuring the scattered radiation content of the transmitted X-rays. The scattered radiation generated when the X-ray flux comes from the diagnostic X-ray generator that passes through an object. Targeting four different rectifications of X-ray generators, the mean value of the tube voltage and the tube current was measured in order to maximize the accuracy of the generating power dose within the same exposure condition. Using fluorescence meter, the content of the scattered rays that are transmitted through the acrylic was measured depending on the grid usage. When grid is not used, the content of the scattered rays was the lowest (34.158%) with the single-phase rectifier, was increased with the inverter rectifier (37.043%) and the three-phase 24-peak rectification method (37.447%). The difference of the scattered radiation content of each device was significant from the lowest 0.404% to the highest 3.289% while using 8:1 grid, the content of the scattered ray was the lowest with the single content of the scattered ray was the lowest with the single-phase rectifier (18.258%), was increased with the rectifier (25.502%) and the 24-peaks rectification (24.217%). Furthermore, there was difference up to content 7.244% to the lowest content 1.285% within three-phase 24-peaks rectification, inverter rectifications, and single-phase rectifier depending on the selectivity of the grid. Drawn from the statistical analysis, there was a similar relationship between the contrast improvement factor and the K factor. As a result, the grid selectivity and the contrast were increased within the single-phase rectifier rather than the constant voltage rectifier.

  • To evaluate the effect of flip angle on flow rate measurements obtained with phase contrast MRI according to the flip angle degree in ascending aorta and velocity encoding (VENC) was (150 m/s). 1.5T MRI in patients 17 (female: 8, male: 9, mean age $57.9{\pm}15.4$) as a target by applying a non-breath holding techniques to flip angle VENC (150 cm/s) in each of the ascending aorta was measured by changing $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. Blood was obtained a peak velocity, average velocity, net forward volume, net forward volume/body surface area. Ascending aorta from average velocity (AV) measured the average value of the flip angle $20^{\circ}$ (9.87 cm/s), $30^{\circ}$ (9.6 cm/s) and $40^{\circ}$ (10.05 cm/s). Blood flow VENC in was blood flow change in flip angle change was high most blood flow measurement when the flip angle $30^{\circ}$ in VENC, crouching each blood flow is also proportional to the increases in the $20^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$ and was increased, the deviation of the peak velocity and the average velocity is the smallest deviation from the flip angle $30^{\circ}$. Flip angle $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$ in peak velocity, average velocity, net forward volume, net forward volume/body surface area was no statistically significant difference (p > .05). Blood flow velocity and blood flow is measured by applying to adjust the flip angle accurately calculate the blood flow is important information for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and can help in the examination on the blood flow measurement.
