  • A new control scheme is developed to achieve fast and accurate decoupled tracking for an n-Joint robotic manipulator In the Presence of disturbances and unknown Parameter variations. The control system is designed so that a new type of state trajectories called sliding mode may exist in a phase plane. In order to remove the reaching Phase and high frequency chattering phenomenon which ate the common shortcomings of variable structure control(VSC) scheme, this paper presents the new switching line which is composed of three segments and the continuous control law which is derived from the existence condition of a sliding mode. The Proposed methods in this Paper are applied to a 3-Joint robotic manipulator as a numerical example-The digital simulation results which are compared with those of typical VSC scheme show the validity of accurate tracking capability and robust Performance of the system.

  • In this paper the application of variable structure control with sliding modes for improving the dynamic response and eliminating chattering of DC servo motor drive is presented. Sliding mode control is an effective means to keep a system insensitive to parameter variation and disturbances. In this method the control structure is changed discontinuously to farce the system dynamic to follow a predetermined trajectory. However the discontinuous change in control structure causes the controller input to chatter and gives non-zero steady state error. To overcome this problem, the discontinuous sign function is replaced by a proper continuous function, and presented through experiment.

  • This paper presents a Current Distribution Control design for Paralleled Positive Output Elementary Super Lift Luo Converters (PPOESLLCs) operated in Continuous Conduction Mode using a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC). Manipulating the higher current requirement of the load through the paralleling of POESLLCs, results in a current inequality. This is mainly due to dissimilarities in the power semiconductor switches and circuit components used in POESLLCs, which may lead to converter failures. In order to balance the proper load current sharing and the load voltage regulation of PPOESLLCs, a SMC is developed. The SMC is designed for the inherently variable-structured of POESLLCs by using the state-space average based model. The static and dynamic performance of the developed controller with PPOESLLCs is validated for its robustness to perform over a wide range of operating conditions through both a laboratory prototype and MatLab/Simulink models, which are compared with a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller. Theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the developed SMC along with the complete design procedure.

  • Mold level control has been a major control task for continuous casting plants. The system involves nonlinearities such as stick-slip friction in the sliding gate, time-delay, friction force variations between molten steel and the inner wall of mold, and nozzle logging/unclogging. These complex problems should be solved to control mold level for steel cast. In this paper, we propose a neural fuzzy mold level control technique for solving these complex problems and give experiment studies to show the mold level control in continuous casting process.

  • Dynamic friction and force ripple are the most predominant factors that affect the positioning accuracy of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) servo drives system, and it is desirable to compensate them in finite time with a continuous control law. In this paper, based on LuGre dynamic friction model, a robust adaptive skidding mode controller is proposed to compensate the nonlinear effect of friction and force ripple. The controller scheme consists of a PD component and a robust adaptive sliding mode controller for estimating the unknown system parameter. Using Lyapunov stability theorem, asymptotic stability analysis and position tracking performance are guaranteed. Simulation results well verify the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for high0precision motion trajectory tracking.

  • In this paper, robust vibration control of a one-link flexible robot arm based on variable structure system is discussed. We derive dynamic equations of it using a Lagragian assumed modes method based on Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The optimal sliding surface is designed and the problem of chattering is also solved by the adoptation of a continuous control law within a small neighborhood of the switching hyperplane.

  • This paper presents the new VSMFC (variable structure model following control) algorithm of a system with parameter uncertainty. In contrast to the conventional approach, continuous control inputs am used instead of discontinous ones and modified reachability condition for sliding mode reduces a reaching phase and a newly proposed sliding surfaces are used for the robust control of uncertain system.

  • In this note, a systematic design of a new robust nonlinear continuous variable structure control system(VSCS) based on the modified state dependent nonlinear form is presented for the control of uncertain affine nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties and matched disturbance. After an affine uncertain nonlinear system is represented in the form of state dependent nonlinear system, a systematic design of a new robust nonlinear VSCS is presented. The uncertainty of the nonlinear system function is separated into the tow parts, i.e., state dependent term and state independent term for extension of target plants. To be linear in the closed loop resultant dynamics and in order to easily satisfy the existence condition of the sliding mode, the transformed linear sliding surface is applied. A corresponding control input is proposed to satisfy the closed loop exponential stability and the existence condition of the sliding mode on the linear transformed sliding surface, which will be investigated in Theorem 1. For practical application, the discontinuity of the control input as the inherent property of the VSS is improved dramatically. Through a design example and simulation studies, the usefulness of the proposed controller is verified.

  • A continuous, accurate, and robust variable structure tracking controller(CVSTC) is designed for brushless direct drive servo motors(BLDDSM). Although conventional variable structure controls can give the desired tracking performances, there exists an inevitable chattering problems in control input which is undesirable for direct drive systems. With the presented algorithm, not only the chattering problems are removed by using the efficient compensation of the disturbance observer, but also the prescribed tracking trajectory can be obtained using the sliding dynamics when an initial of the desired trajcetory is different from that of a BLDDSM. The design of the sliding mode tracking controller for the prescribed, accurate, and robust tracking performance without the chattering problem is given based on the results of the detailed stability analysis. The usefulness of the suggested algorithm is demonstrated through the computer simulation for a BLDDSM under load variations.
