  • Patients often suffer from continuous pain negatively affecting their daily life despite a surgical operation. Various studies on complementary therapies against pain have been accumulated as patient with pain desires the improvement in quality of life. Massage therapy as a complementary therapy has been applied widely to decrease the pain and promote relaxation. Thermotherapy with massage is also useful for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Here, the author reports that VOSKIN 125+®, a new massage instrument, was designed directly to be adjusted from 38-50 degrees Celsius depending on the individual symptoms by lifting the skin and muscles with a negative compression in illness area for alleviating all pain. It transfers pressure and heat to area of illness and eases the pain. In addition, it has significant anti-inflammatory effects and promotes metabolism activity. VOSKIN 125+® can be therapeutic for pain of musculoskeletal patients. Therefore, I suggest that VOSKIN 125+® can be useful for a great number of patients suffering from persisting pain.

  • Heating of injured tissue has been used for centuries for pain relief and reduction of muscle spasm. In physical therapy locally applied heating gents are used not only to promote relaxation and provide pain relief, but they are also used to increase blood flow, to facilitate tissue healing, and to prepare stiff joints and tight muscles for exercise. Superficial heating agents primarily cause in increases in skin and superficial cutaneous tissue temperature. Superficial heating agents such as hot packs, paraffin wax, Deep heating agents, including shortwave diathermy and continuous-wave ultrasound, can increase tissue temperature at depths ranging from 3to 5cm without overheating the skim and subcutaneous tissue.

  • A governing differential equation (GDE) of PSC flexural member with constant eccentricity considering the long-term losses including concrete creep, shrinkage, and PS steel relaxation is derived based on the two approaches. The first approach utilizes the force and moment equilibrium equations derived based on the geometry of strains of the uniform and curvature strains while the second one utilizes the principle of minimum total potential energy formulation. The identity of the two GDE's is verified by comparing the coefficients consisting of the GDE's. The boundary conditions resulting from the functional analysis of the variational calculus are investigated. Rayleigh-Ritz method provides a way to get the explicit form of the continuous deflection function in which the total potential energy is minimized with respect to the unknown coefficients consisting of the trial functions. As a closure, the analytically calculated results are compared with the experiments and show good agreements.

  • Using continuous wave near-infrared spectroscopy, we measured time-resolved concentration changes of oxy-hemoglobin and deoxy-hemoglobin from the primary motor cortex following finger tapping tasks. These data were processed using partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to develop a prediction model for a brain-computer interface. The tasks were composed of a series of finger tapping for 15 sec and relaxation for 45 sec. The location of the motor cortex was confirmed by the anti-phasic behavior of the oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin changes. The results were compared with those obtained using the hidden Markov model (HMM) which has been known to produce the best prediction model. Our data imply that PLS-DA makes better judgments in determining the onset of the events than HMM.

  • To analyze the mechanical property and the residual stress in functionally gradient materials(FGMs), disctype TZP/Ni-and TZP/SUS304-FGM were hot pressed using powder metallurgy compared with directly bonded materials which were fabricated by the same method. The continuous interface and the microstructure of FGMs were characterized by EPMA, WDS, optical microscope and SEM. By fractography, the fracture behavior of FGMs was mainly influenced by the defects which originated from the fabrication process. And the defectlike cracks in the FGMs induced by the residual stress have been shown to cause failure. This fact has well corresponded to the analysis of the residual stress distribution by Finite Element Method (FEM). The residual stress generated on the interface (between each layer, and matrix and second phase, respectively) were dominantly influenced on the sintering temperature and the material constants. As a consequence, the interfacial stability and the relaxation of residual stress could be obtained through compositional gradient.

  • In this paper, we consider resource allocation with proportional fairness in the downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access relay networks, in which relay nodes operate in decode-and-forward mode. A joint optimization problem is formulated for relay selection, subcarrier assignment and power allocation. Since the formulated primal problem is nondeterministic polynomial time-complete, we make continuous relaxation and solve the dual problem by Lagrangian dual decomposition method. A near-optimal solution is obtained using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides superior system throughput and much better fairness among users comparing with a heuristic algorithm.

  • Pulse modulation technique provide additional controling method for electron temperature and density in rf and microwave processing plasma. Transient characteristics of electron density and temperature have been measured in pulse modulated rf inductively coupled argon plasma using simple probe circuit. Electron temperature relaxation is clearly identified in the after glow stage. Controllability of average electron temperature and density depends on the modulation frequency and duty ratio. Numerical calculation of time-dependent electron density and temperature have been performed based on the global model. It has been shown that simple langmuir probe measurement method used for continuous plasma is also applicable to time-dependent measurement of pulse modulated plasma.

  • We have investigated the activation magnetic moment, which characterizes the basis magnetic moment acting as a single magnetic particle during magnetization reversal. The activation magnetic moment was measured from each local area on continuous ferromagnetic thin films, by analyzing the magnetic field dependence of magnetization reversal of the corresponding local area based on a thermally activated relaxation process. It was found that the activation magnetic moment was nonuniform on submicrometer scale; the fluctuation increased with increasing the number of layers in Co/Pd multilayers. The distribution could be well analyzed by exp($\delta$m$\^$3/2/), where $\delta$m is the deviation of the activation magnetic moment from the mean value.

  • To invigorate the tapped-inductor boost (TIB) topology in emerging high step-up applications for off-grid products, a lossless snubber consisting of two capacitors and three diodes is proposed. Since the switch voltage stress is minimized in the proposed circuit, it is allowed to use a device with a lower cost, higher efficiency, and higher availability. Moreover, since the leakage inductance is fully utilized, no effort to minimize it is required. This allows for a highly productive and cost-effective design of the tapped-inductor. The proposed circuit also shows a high step-up ratio and provides relaxation of the switching loss and diode reverse-recovery. In this paper, the operation is analyzed in detail, the steady-state equation is derived, and the design considerations are discussed. Some experimental results are provided to confirm the validity of the proposed circuit.
