Compositionality Reconsidered: With Special Reference to Cognition

  • The issues of compositionality, materialized ever since Frege (1982), are critically re-examined in language first mainly and then in all other possible representational systems such as thoughts, concept combination, computing, gesture, music, and animal cognition. The notion is regarded as necessary and suggested as neurologically correlated in humans, even if a weakened version is applicable because of non-articulated constituents and contextuality. Compositionality is crucially involved in all linguistically or non-linguistically meaningful expressions, dealing with at-issue content, default content, and even not-at-issue meanings such as implicatures and presuppositions in discourse. It is a constantly guiding principle to show the relation between representation and mind, still posing tantalizing research issues.

학습기회로서의 비문자적 표상 분석: 한미 중등 수학교과서 사례 연구 (Non-Textual Elements as Opportunities to Learn: An Analysis of Korean and U.S. Mathematics Textbooks)

  • 본 연구는 한국과 미국의 중등 수학 교과서에 사용된 비문자적 표상의 특성과 역할을 다양성, 상황성, 연결성이라는 분석틀을 활용하여 탐구하였다. 비문자적 표상이란, 문자들로만 혹은 상징들로만 표현되지 않는, 교과서에 포함된 시각적 표상들로, 사진이나 그림과 같은 회화적 표상과 그래프 혹은 수학적 도형과 같은 수학적 표상들을 포함하고 있다. 수학 교수 학습에서의 시각적 표상의 중요성에도 불구하고, 기존 연구는 교과서에서 사용되는 비문자적 표상의 특성과 역할의 교육적 의미를 간과해 왔다. 본 연구에서 현재 사용되고 있는 수학교과서 18종(미국 5종, 한국 13종)을 분석한 결과, 비문자적 표상은 각각의 사회 문화적 상황에서 어떤 수학에 중점을 두고 어떻게 가르칠 것인가 하는데 대한 인식을 반영하고 있었다. 예를 들면, 미국 교과서는 회화적 표상과 상황성을 지닌 비문자적 표상이 주류를 이루어 수학의 활용에 초점을 두었던데 반해, 한국 교과서는 수학적 연결성이 강하고 추상적인 비문자적 표상이 주류를 이루어 수학적 표현과 엄밀성에 중점을 두었다. 이러한 비문자적 표상의 특성의 차이는 수학학습의 목적과 방법론에 따른 각 사회문화적 차이를 반영할 뿐만 아니라 이에 따른 다른 "학습기회 (opportunities to learn)"를 제공함으로써 학생들의 수학 학습에 대한 인식에도 영향을 줄 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다. 따라서 본 연구는 학습기회로서 비문자적 표상을 재인식하여야 하며 더 나아가 이에 대한 지속적인 연구와 교육과정 개발에의 반영이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.

  • Danish Modern has been recognized as simple and comfortable design movement that was matched with its unique regional environment. There are various internationally well known designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton. Danish Modern movement and International style had vital role to activate these designers' ideas and design quality. This paper aims to study the background and design characteristics of Danish Modern movement as well as some of the spatial projects by Arne Jacobsen. Furniture design of Jacobsen were already throughly studied in various researches. However his spatial projects such as architectural buildings and interior designs were not. This study analyzes three major architectural projects based on the four characteristics of Danish Modern: Formal Simplicity, Simple Functionality, Regional Contextuality, Reasonable Amusement. After the case study, this study discovered that Danish Modern characteristics had unique roles in the design process of Jacobsen's projects. Danish Modern is still valid design philosophy that can be applied to contemporary society.

설치미술의 조형적 사고와 표현특성 (The Artistic Thinking and Expressive Characteristics of Installation Art)

  • This study deals with the expressive characteristics of Installation Art and their applicability to environmental design, and as such, aims to specify a artistic methods from the contemporary art. What Installation Art is search of in their works is "the state of relationships" which is "to replace the concept of form with that of structure, and the concept of space with that of the environment" that is, the terms of relations in the overall environment of time and space. Installation Art essentially relies on a multiplicity of forms and attitudes leading to projects which positively make use of "spatial-temporal process" to reaffirm and "problematise" their open-endedness manifest in complex contextuality and shifting temporality. This study presents a new interpretation of spatial-temporal dimension, site-specificity, and intermedia art that we find in Installation Art and tries to combine that new artistic insight a with environmental design to provide a basis for integrated art. This study places a great emphasis on the interdisciplinary approaches to the environment we inhabit, which I hope will contribute to generating a greater number of creative possibilities for environmental design.

과학교육체제의 맥락성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Contextuality of the Science Education System)

  • Due mainly to the complexity of educational system, it is difficult to comprehend the phenomena and nature of the science education. Educators have developed various kinds of means and methods useful for easy understanding of the phenomena and nature. This study added another method supporting that the phenomena and nature of the science education should be understood in the context of educational system. System approach into thought is holistic and contextual in nature. It focuses on both the whole and its relevant parts, and is concerned with environmental context. By its definition, a system interact not only with another system but also with its environments. The purpose of this study was to answer such questions as "What is the science education?", or "What is the meaning of the science education?", "Why do we teach science?", "Why are we ought to teach science?", and "How do we know that those facts and methods are valid?" The results for the study are as follows: 1. Science education is the human behavior with the purpose to attain something through science and education. It is socio-cultural process, social and organizational activity into which the public deeply involved. The process and activity are usually undergirded upon the value of science education. 2. The science education system is analyzed in the light of the legislative institution. The system model that characterize of the system and the interrelationship among the systems is suggested in terms of the conceptions of boundary, components, variables, parameters and linkage, etc. Then, the science education system is divided into the plan-system, do-system and see-system by the use of the criterion of plan-do-see that is the general process of human activity. The study also identified that the system of science education is consisted of the aspects of science education administration, school science education, and science education evaluation. 3. As the frame of thought on the contextuality in the science education system, the contexts of meaning, organization, legislation and policy were presented, along with the main cognitive interest, the system, the orientation, and the premise of each context which were used to explain the reasons. The results of this study suggested a new approach into the comprehension of the educational phenomena in teaching science and the possibility of understanding science education as a whole.

SNS 기능적 속성이 주얼리 제품 및 온라인 쇼핑몰에 대한 태도형성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effect of SNS's Characteristic on Attitude Formation toward Jewelry Product and Jewelry Online Shopping Mall)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 SNS의 기능적 속성이 주얼리 제품을 소비하는 소비자의 만족도와 구전의도에 미치는 영향과 주얼리 온라인 쇼핑몰 구매의도에 미치는 영향을 파악하는데 있다. 기존의 문헌연구를 통해 SNS의 기능적 속성 중 4가지가 대표성을 가지고 판단되어 다음과 같이 기능적 속성 4가지(맥락성, 대응성, 사회적 실재감, 상호작용성)를 선정하였다. 주얼리 제품을 구매한 경험이 있는 성인남녀를 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며 총 317부가 결과 분석에 사용되었다. 연구 가설을 검증하기 위하여 구조방정식 통계 패키지를 사용하였다. 결과를 보면, SNS의 기능적 속성 요소인 상호작용성을 제외한 다른 요인들은 주얼리 제품 구매자 만족도와 구전의도에 밀접한 관련성이 있는 것으로 드러났다. 주얼리 제품 구매자들은 SNS를 다른 사람과 다른 세계를 연결해 주는 부드러운 이미지를 부여할 때 주얼리 제품을 구매할 가능성이 높다고 볼 수 있고 구전의도에도 밀접하게 연결되어 있는 것으로 보인다. 상호작용성은 주얼리 제품 구매자의 구전의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 만족도가 높을수록 구매의도 역시 높아진다고 할 수 있다. 소비자 구전의도는 구매의도에 긍정적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다. 구전의도가 높을수록 구매의도 역시 높아진다고 할 수 있다.

텍스트성을 활용한 다문화 멘토링 활동에서의 수업비평 탐색 (Exploring class criticism in multicultural mentoring activities using textuality)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학생인 멘토들의 전문성 신장과 비평적인 성찰을 유도하기 위해 다문화 멘토링 수업활동에 대한 방향을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 멘토-멘티의 다문화 멘토링에서 이루어지는 전반적인 활동 내용 및 현상을 활동 텍스트로 보고, 일곱 가지의 텍스트성을 적용하여 다문화 멘토링 수업활동에 대한 방향을 탐색하였다. 그 결과, 응결성은 멘토와 멘티가 다문화 멘토링 수업활동을 지속적으로 하기 위한 관계적인 측면을 뜻하고, 응집성은 수업활동 과정에서 파생되는 의미들이 결속되어 멘토와 멘티 모두에게 수업활동에 대한 하나의 주제나 정체성을 이루어 내는 것을 말한다. 의도성은 멘토가 멘토링 수업활동 전에 수업에 대한 의도나 목표를 갖는 것을 의미하고, 용인성은 다문화 멘토링 수업활동 과정에서 멘토가 생산한 텍스트를 멘티에 의해 받아들여질 때 수업활동 텍스트로서 의미를 가지는 것을 말한다. 정보성의 경우 수업활동 과정에서 멘토가 생산한 텍스트를 멘티가 예측가능할 때에는 정보성이 낮으며, 예측가능 정도가 낮을 경우에는 정보적인 가치가 높다는 관점이다. 상황성은 수업활동 과정에서 물리적인 텍스트 상황과 멘티의 상황에 따라 수업활동에 대한 상황성은 달라질 수 있고, 상호텍스트성은 다문화 멘토링 수업활동의 경우 멘토가 수업활동 텍스트를 새롭게 창조하여 생산하는 경우를 제외하고는 멘토의 학습경험, 동료 친구의 자문, 교육 등을 통해 수업활동 텍스트를 생산하는 것과 관련된다.

현재 조형예술의 정황성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Contextuality in Contemporary Arts)

  • The following thesis has been composed with the inspiration attained from Paul Ardenne's conception on Contextual Art. In Europe and in the United States, there is a group of artists who emphasize in the importance of artist's participation in social, political, economical, environmental and moral issues. Since the 1960's, these artists have pondered on Modernism's ideas where art is contextually separated from humanly issues whereas the manners of such artists put on emphasis in the intent to participate in the real human social and ethical issues. Forerunner in this field of art such as Wolfgang Leib display hybrid or meta style in their work. His work displays a quadrilateral form of pollen which represents the simultaneous blending of two mixed ideas such as the abstract from the real. Thus heterogeneous style and philosophy which includes a range of medias and today's trend is observed in Contextual Art. Such art form is also found in landscapes where it is not seen as an observable object but rather an interactive object. It is correlated to Arte Povera of the Italian Art Movement, Support-Surface of the French Art Movement and lastly to the Fluxus. Through these art movements, we find a mutual antipathy towards putting art for sales in the capitalism market and reflect the social role of art in postmodern era.

가로변 공동주택 경관의 인지 특성에 관한 연구 - 남악신도시 공동주택을 대상으로 - (A Study on cognition Characteristics about the Landscape in Apartments at the Street - Focused on Apartments in Namak Newtown -)

  • This study aims to examine and research the characteristics of apartment landscape at the street from a view that apartments are the major element of a cityscape and many apartments form a street today. Then, the subjects of this study were three sections consisting of streets in Namak New Town and the results were as follows. A streetscape is necessary to have identity under the unity(context) of parts which orient to "one as a whole". However, the subject apartments were not united(contextual) in layouts, roofs, and walls, whereas their facades appeared too united(contextual). Accordingly, to make a united(contextual) streetscape, the wall located in a boundary(a buffer zone) with public space which consists of a streetscape, building layout, building height, and roof forms need a design guideline which can have unity as a whole to connect with architectural design. On the other hand, the facade which was found too uniform should have a more active design guideline to elicit identity at unity.

현대 한국 조경작품의 설계 경향에 관한 연구 (A Study of Design Trends in Contemporary Korean Landscape Architectural Works*)

  • This study Is about the situation of contemporary landscape architecture design in Korea. The conceptual framework of interpretation for landscape architectural works is formulated to define the design trends of today′s professional works The study′s analytical method is composed of the survey of attitudes questionnaire, the analysis of design composition techniques and conclusions drawn from the comments of contemporary landscape architectural critics. Among 975 members of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, 318 professionals responded to the survey questionnaire. The survey revealed that landscape architects in Korea are concerned about the profession′s reduced contributions to the sharping of the built environment. However, they are optimistic about its future. Ten top design works were selected from the surveys′ answers and were analyzed for the design characteristics which could best represent the trends of the last thirty years. Several design critiques and comments about the professional works were cited to reinforce the outlined "-ty" of the contemporary design phenomena. The study identified the following distinguished design trends of contemporary Korean landscape architectural works They are as follows: Themelessty, Powerity, Traditionality, Monumentality, Non-contextuality and Over-designity. These trends identify the overall prevailing conditions of Korean landscape architectural design over the past thirty years.
