Interactive Remote Lecture System Based on IPv6 Multicast Services (IPv6 멀티캐스트 기반의 쌍방향 원격 강의 시스템)

  • The scope ID field of IPv6 multicast address indicates the zone of the destination for which a multicast traffic is intended. Without any further examination on the header field, the scope ID enables a router to determine whether the traffic will be forwarded to a subnet or not. For the graceful migration from IPv4 networks to IPv6 networks, various IPv6 applications working through IPv4 networks are indispensable during the migration period. This paper describes development of an interactive remote lecture system providing service integration on voice, image, and data of teaching materials. Access right to the network for dialog among multicast group members is controlled via additional TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) session. A jitter buffer algorithm was implemented to improve the voice communication jitters.

A Study on Improving TCP Performance in Wireless Network (무선 네트워크에서 TCP성능향상을 위한 연구)

  • As the TCP is the protocol designed for the wired network that packet loss probability is very low, because TCP transmitter takes it for granted that the packet loss by the wireless network characteristics is occurred by the network congestion and lowers the transmitter's transmission rate, the performance is degraded. In this article, we suggest the newly improved algorithm using two parameters, the local retransmission time value and the local retransmission critical value to the BS based on the Snoop. This technique adjusts the base stations local retransmission timer effectively according to the wireless link status to recover the wireless packet loss rapidly. We checked that as a result of the suggested algorithm through various simulations, A-Snoop protocol improve more the wireless TCP transmission rate by recovering the packet loss effectively in the wireless link that the continuous packet loss occur than the Snoop protocol.

  • In this paper, analytical methods for calculating the average probability of bit error of time hopping pulse position modulation ultra wideband (TH-PPM UWB) system are given. For the multi-user DS-PAM UWB system, the bipolar pulse amplitude modulation is used in order to achieve better performance. As we know, more attention is paid to the TH-PPM UWB systems recently. In this paper, we first introduce the accurate BER calculation methods of the multi-user TH-PPM UWB systems and then give the performance analysis over the ideal AWGN channel and a correlation receiver. Furthermore, we also introduce their applications in image transmission and data transmission and give the simulation results. The analytical method yields simple and exact formulas relating the performance to the system parameters.

  • A rapid growth in the number of Internet users and in massive media contents tends to cause server overload and high network traffic. As a consequence, it can be safely assumed that the quality of service is on the brink of deterioration. A solution of this problem is the development of the Content Distribution Network. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a transmission model using CDN. This model uses regional media server which closes to client, and uses MDC coding and multi-channel to reduce packet loss and delay. In conclusion, this study improved performance of multimedia service by reducing packet loss and delay.

  • The development of SNS and video platforms provided an opportunity to explode the activation of content production and consumption. However, in the legacy system, due to the host-based location-oriented data transmission, there are inherent limitations in efficient operation and management. As an alternative to this, a Contents Centric Network (CCN) was studied. In this paper, when intermediate nodes located between the information provider and the information requester between the real-time streaming services in the CCN environment move or restrict their use, failure through monitoring of wireless reception strength to solve problems like disconnection of transmission quality at the information consumer. We propose a stable intermediate node management mechanism through active response before occurrence.

A study on the Backup Path of Overlay Multicast for QoS (QoS를 위한 오버레이 멀티캐스트의 복원경로에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, studies for effective multimedia contents delivery have been widely performed in the multimedia streaming area. Overlay multicast, which can be implemented in the application layer, is method to transmit multimedia content's effectively. The Overlay multicast method can implement multicast transmission without changing the physical layer, and it has the characteristic that the application method can be diversify according to the algorithm. This paper has proposed the backup path construction method of overlay multicast for stabilized multimedia contents transmission. The proposed method can construct a backup path with the minimum searching method for guaranteed QoS(Quality of Service) and in overlay multicast so a fast and simple backup path can be constructed.

Smart Care System on a Small Boat for an Effective Emergency Service (효과적인 응급대응을 위한 소형선박의 위치기반 스마트케어시스템)

  • The existing ship monitoring system currently in use has a limitation, which is that it can only identify a boat's location for finding a safe harbor or give an answer to a rescue signal. In addition to this, it is very difficult to add an expensive, more effective monitoring system to small boats because of their small infrastructure in comparison with large boats. Therefore, this study suggests that a new model could be required to better cater to the needs of small boats. The 'Smart Care System', based on location, is better able to monitor the boat and the crew of small boats in comparison with the existing ship monitoring system. Using biomedical data transmission equipment, it is able to survey and send biomedical data so that it can continuously monitor the crew's health. The boat has an intelligent interface device, which has the functions of GPS and attitude sensors, and a web based management system. We have conducted three experiments for the assessment of this system. The experiment of biological data transmission had a success rate of 98 percent, and the tests conducted for recognizing emergency situations also had a 98 percent success rate. In conclusion we confirmed the efficiency of this system.

Efficient Skyline Query Processing Scheme in Mobile P2P Networks (모바일 P2P 네트워크에서 효율적인 스카이라인 질의 처리 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new skyline query processing scheme to enhance accuracy of query processing and communication cost in mobile P2P environments. The proposed scheme consists of three stages such as the pre-skyline processing, the query transmission range extension policy, and the continuous skyline query processing. In the pre-skyline processing, a peer selects the candidate filtering objects who have the potential to be selected. By doing so, the proposed scheme reduces the filtering cost when processing the query. In the query transmission range extension policy, we have improved the accuracy by extending the query transmission range. In addition, it can handle continuous skyline query by performing the monitoring after the first skyline query processing. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the existing schemes through performance evaluation. As a result, it was shown that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

Estimation of Channel Capacity for Data Traffic Transmission (데이터 트래픽 특성을 고려한 적정 채널 용량 산정)

  • We present an estimation model for optimal channel capacity required to data traffic transmission. The optimal channel capacity should be calculated in order to satisfy the permitted transmission delay of each wireless data services. Considering the discrete-time operation of digital communication systems and batch arrival of packet-switched traffic for various wireless services, $Geo^x$/G/1 non-preemptive priority queueing model is analyzed. Based on the heuristic interpretation of the mean waiting time, the mean waiting times of various data packets which have the service priority. Using the mean waiting times of service classes, we propose the procedure of determining the optimal channel capacity to satisfy the quality of service requirement of the mean delay of wireless services. We look forward to applying our results to improvement in wireless data services and economic operation of the network facilities.

Improved Error Detection Scheme Using Data Hiding in Motion Vector for H.264/AVC (움직임 벡터의 정보 숨김을 이용한 H.264/AVC의 향상된 오류 검출 방법)

  • The compression of video data is intended for real-time transmission of band-limited channels. Compressed video bit-streams are very sensitive to transmission error. If we lose packets or receive them with errors during transmission, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also the error will propagate to succeeding frames due to the spatio-temporal predictive coding structure of sequences. Error detection and concealment is a good approach to reduce the bad influence on the reconstructed visual quality. To increase concealment efficiency, we need to get some more accurate error detection algorithm. In this paper, We hide specific data into the motion vector difference of each macro-block, which is obtained from the procedure of inter prediction mode in H.264/AVC. Then, the location of errors can be detected easily by checking transmitted specific data in decoder. We verified that the proposed algorithm generates good performances in PSNR and subjective visual quality through the computer simulation by H.324M mobile simulation tool.
