  • This paper deals with a numerical study of the tribological contact stress distributions of elastomeric lip seah for oscillating shafts when the sealing interference and band width between the lip edge of contact seals the shaft are present. Using the finite element method, the contact stress and band width of scraper seals rare analyzed for the sealing interference including some nonlinearities such as geometrical nonlinearity, material nonlinearity and nonlinear contact boundary condition. The FEM results showed that the contact stress concentrated on the contacting lip zone between the contacting edge of lip and the shaft for the increased interference. In double lip scraper seals, the maximum contact stress of the dust lip, which is used to exclude foreign contaminants, is six times higher than that of the primary sealing lip, which is used to contain lubricants.

  • Heat generation in machine operating condition makes thermal deformation and thermalstress in the structure, which results in the change the contact characteristics of machine joint such s change of shrinkage fit, contact heat conductance and contact pressure. As the change of contact pressure is related to variation of static, dynamic and thermalcharacteristics, the prediction of transient contact perssure is strongly required. This paper presents some analytical results which will be effective to predict static and dynamic characteristics of the compound cylindrical structure.

  • The paper presents a numerical solution to the problem of a hot rigid indenter siding over a thermoelastic Winkler foundation with a thermal contact resistance at constant speed. It is shown analytically that no steady-state solution can exist for sufficiently high temperature or sufficiently small normal load or speed regardless of the thermal contact resistance. However, the steady state solution may exist in the same situation if the thermal contact resistance is considered. This means that the effect of the large values of temperature difference and small value of force or velocity which occur at no steady state can be lessened due to the thermal contact resistance. When there is no steady-state the predicted transient behavior involves regions of transient stationary contact interspersed with regions of separation regardless of the thermal contact resistance. Initially, the system typically exhibits a small number of relatively large contact and separation regions, but after the initial transient the trailing edge of the contact area is only established and the leading edge loses contact, reducing the total extent of contact considerably. As time progresses, larger and larger number of small contact areas are established, until eventually the accuracy of the algorithm is limited by the discretization used.

  • This paper presents contact behavior of an Polyperfluoroalkoxyethylene(PTFE) ring seals by a non-linear finite element method using the thermomechanical analysis. PTFE elastomer was assumed as odgen model for numerical analysis in FEM commercial code because elastomer has nonlinear behaviour character. The shape effects are investigated for sealing performance of ring seal in boundary conditions which as gas pressure, groove temperature and various O-ring seal models. Also contact stress and equivalent total strain are investicated. An O-ring seals was modeled four shape which are circle, two sunflower and X. The highest contact stress occurs at sunflower-ring seal with groove deapth of 0.35mm. the equivalent total strain of sunflower-ring seal is lower than that of the others under low gas pressure condition but under gas pressure condition over 4Mpa, that of sunflower-ring seal is higher. The calculated FEM results shows that the Sunflower-ring seal with groove depth of 0.35mm has excellent performance compared with other seal models.

  • After atmospheric pressure plasma treatment of polypropylene(PP) film surface, we measured the contact angle of the surface by using polar solvent (water) and non-polar solvent (diiodomethane). We also calculated the surface free energy of PP film by using the measured values of contact angles. And then we analyzed contact angle and surface free energy with changing the condition of atmospheric pressure plasma treatment. Upon each condition of atmospheric plasma treatment, contact angle and surface free energy showed an optimum value or leveled off.

  • In case of multiple failure scenario, such as LOCA with ECCS failure, the decay heat continues to raise the reactor core temperature, eventually leading to the core voiding. In such scenario the convective heat transfer becomes poor and the majority of the heat transfer from fuel bundle takes place by radiation mode. During this abnormal working condition, if the channel pressure is less than 1 MPa, the PT sags and come in contact with the CT. This results in high rate of heat transfer from contact location to moderator. The present paper aims to capture the temperature profile over a simulated nuclear channel during such scenario at a steady state temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ (Centre pin) at two different configurations of PT i.e. PT concentric with CT and PT contact with CT. The results showed that the bottom nodes of all the components (Fuel bundle, PT and CT) of the simulated channel was greatly influenced by the PT/CT contact. Moreover, higher temperature were observed at top nodes of the PT and outer pins of the fuel bundle. However, no significant variation in temperatures were obtained in fuel bundle and CT in concentric condition.

  • n-type silicon shows the better tolerance towards metal impurities with a higher minority carrier lifetime compared to p-type silicon substrate. Due to better lifetime stability as compared to p-type during illumination made the photovoltaic community to switch toward n-type wafers for high efficiency silicon solar cells. We fabricated the front electrode of the n-type solar cell with AgAl paste. The electrodes characteristics of the AgAl paste depend on the contact junction depth that is closely related to the firing temperature. Metal contact depth with p+ emitter, with optimized depth is important as it influence the resistance. In this study, we optimize the firing condition for the effective formation of the metal depth by varying the firing condition. The firing was carried out at temperatures below $670^{\circ}C$ with low contact depth and high contact resistance. It was noted that the contact resistance was reduced with the increase of firing temperature. The contact resistance of $5.99m{\Omega}cm^2$ was shown for the optimum firing temperature of $865^{\circ}C$. Over $900^{\circ}C$, contact junction is bonded to the Si through the emitter, resulting the contact resistance to shunt. we obtained photovoltaic parameter such as fill factor of 76.68%, short-circuit current of $40.2mA/cm^2$, open-circuit voltage of 620 mV and convert efficiency of 19.11%.

  • In order to produce a water repellent surface on polyester fabric, samples were treated in the atmosphere of $CF_4$ glow discharge plasma. The samples used in the study were ployester fabric and poyester film. The purpose of film treatment is for the comparison of hydrophobicity with fabric sample at same treatment condition. Radio frequency(13.56MHz) generator was used as electric source and its in put power is 100 Watt. Water repellency was evaluated by contact angle measurement. Result obtained are as follows. 1) Fiber interstice of original fabric was ana lysed as 0.43$\mu$m, and this value was sufficiently ideal for making water repellent fabric. 2) The most favorable setting position of substrate was the center area between two electrodes. 3) Fabric contact angle was higher than film contact angle at same treatment condition, and its difference was more than 50${\circ}$. And it was incapalbe of fabric contact angle measurement when the film contact angle was less than 90${\circ}$. because the fabric is susceptible to absorption of water by the capillary effect. 4) Fabric contact angle can not revealed the precise defferences of surface hydrophobicity, however, the film contact angle showed the real hydrophobic nature. 5) It was not sufficient method to evaluate the hydrophobicity of fabric surface by merely measure of the water contact angle. 6) It showed high water repellent nature at 0.06 torr of $CF_4$ plasma gas pressure and duration of 45 seconds treatment, and it can not be anticipated more improved nature if the pressure and duration of treatment time were increased.
