  • Despite the explosive growth of no-frill airline industry, very little is known about how consumers make purchase decision in such settings. Today's airline industry requires choice models consistent with consumers' true preference sets. This study used conjoint analysis to identify these ideal choice models. 38 percent of the subjects were found to use compensatory and 62 percent non-compensatory models. Our findings suggest a need to base choice-making promotions on ideal choice models if the promotion is to lead consumers to decisions consistent with true preferences.

  • Due to consumers' preferences for seeking a quality life and having more leisure time, comfortableness became a major criteria for selecting clothes for all age groups. This is why consumers' interests in knitwear increased recently. The purpose of this study is to analyze the knitwear consumption patterns such as style preferences, and consumer satisfaction with knitwear. Particularly, differences in age groups of consumers were analyzed. Data from 463 men and women participated in the study. Results indicated that consumers wear knits once or twice a week in average. After two to three years of consumption, they discard the knitwear. Among various apparel product categories, Consumers selected Cardigan to be the preferable knitwear product category. They preferred 100% cotton and achromatic or gray/brown color with solid fabrics. In general, consumers were most satisfied with colors and least satisfied with laundering of knitwear. Older consumers preferred knitwear to woven products, preferred pull-over style and valued feelings of softness and comfortableness when wearing knitwear. There were more differences in dissatisfaction factors than satisfaction factors according to the consumer age groups.

  • This study examines the effect of structural properties of F/W wool knit fabrics for woman's knitwear on the preferences for textile designing through analyzing the relationship among the structural properties, mechanical properties, objective hand measurements, and preferences. The 'knit structure' was determined to be the most important parameter in rating preferences, apart from the 'preference for cardigans'. Consumers preferred washable wool to normal wool when comparing a normal wool knit with a washable wool knit on a 'knit structure' factor. Preferred structural properties showed a similar tendency 'preference for fabric' and the 'preference for cardigans', 'preference for sweaters' and 'preference for vests'. The 'sophisticated/feminine' factor showed a correlation with 'fabric preference' and the texture and sensible images had a similar effect on fabric preferences. In the relationship between objective hand measurements and fabric preferences, the KOSHI value had a negative coefficient and the THV value had a positive correlation with fabric preferences. In conclusion, we found a consumer preference for more flexible fabrics.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate consumer preferences on hybrid cars and electric cars by employing a choice experiment reflecting the various market conditions, such as different projected market shares of green vehicles and $CO_2$ emission regulations. Depending on different market scenarios, we examine as to which attribute and individual characteristic affect the preferences of potential consumers on green vehicles and further, forecast the potential market shares of green cars. The primary results, estimated by a conditional logit and panel probit models, indicate that sales price, fuel cost, maximum speed, emission of air pollutants, fuel economy, and distance between fuel stations can significantly affect consumer's choice of environment-friendly cars. The second finding is that the unique features of electric cars might better appeal to consumers as the market conditions for electric cars are improved. Third, education, age, and gender can significantly affect individual preferences. Finally, as the market conditions become more favorable toward green cars, the forecasted market shares of hybrid and electric vehicles will increase up to 67% and 14%.

The survey data were collected from a target number of 450 participants living in the Seoul area. The subjects represented different age groups (over 20 years old) and both genders. Through a market survey based on five different retailers, which included juk-specialty stores, supermarkets, and local shopping marts, 17 kinds of commercial juk were chosen for the survey. Consumption frequency and purchasing factors were examined, along with preferences toward commercial juk products and areas for quality improvement. The results revealed that 54.0% of the respondents consumed commercial juk, and male consumers exceeded female consumers in number. It was also shown that those in their $20^{\circ}{\O}s$ consumed commercial juk products the least as compared to other age groups. With regard to commercial juk preferences by type of production mode, females especially preferred specialty store juk while males preferred retort juk sold in supermarkets or local shopping marts. In addition, 85.7% of the total respondents indicated that commercial juk should be further improved in quality, and they specifically noted possible improvements in the areas of 'choice diversification' and 'healthy juk' products. Therefore, one can conclude that by making such improvements, increase in consumption and further diversification of commercial juk products could be realized.
