The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of their consumer skill and the degree of consumer problems' perception. For the purpose of this study, 480 questionnaire were distributed to the housewives in Seoul. The 320 data were analyzed by Frequency, Percentage, ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Rang Test, Multiple Classification Analysis, and Pearson's Correlation . The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) The socio-demographic variables indicating significant relation to the level of consumer skill are income level, housewife's age , and housewife's education level. The independent influence of all the variables affecting consumer skill was analyzed. It result is in confirming the income as the most influential one. 20 The socio-demographic variables indicating significant relation to the degree of consumer problem's perception are income level, and housewife's education level. The independent influence of all the variables affecting consumer problem's perception was analyzed. It results in confirming the income as the most influential one. 3) Consumer skill level differs significantly at the 0.001 level, according toe the degree of consumer problems' perception. The higher level of consumer skill, the lower degree of consumer problems' perception. The result of this study implies that a consumer education should be given to the low-income consumers, on the basis of their consumer skill level. Further research regarding the consumer skill and problems ' perception of the low-income consumers should be conducted.

  • In the 21st century, green consumer behavior, playing one of the core roles of sustainability, is still an important issue to green-related stakeholders. Because one of the major objectives of green-consumer research is an improvement of behaviors aligned with greening, this paper revisited socio-demographic variables and shed light on segmenting and profiling green consumers based on their connectedness between socio-demographic variables and green behaviors. Using correlations, factor analysis, analysis of variance, k-means cluster analysis and χ2-tests, this paper shows that socio-demographic variables differentially impact green-consumer behaviors. In order to profile green consumers, this paper additionally attempts to segment green-consumer groups. The results also coincide with former findings that socio-demographic variables relate significantly with segmented green-consumer group behaviors. General findings are summarized as: 1) older people used green practices more strongly than younger people, 2) females demonstrated better energy-saving and recycling practices compared to males, 3) marital status also significantly influenced green-related behaviors, 4) subjective social class had a significant influence on green-related behaviors, 5) education level and income, however, weakly influenced or showed no impact on green-related behaviors, and 6) a green consumer was classified as an 'active green consumer,' 'utilitarian green consumer,' or 'inactivated green consumer.' The utilitarian green consumer group distinctively behaved more strongly in energy-saving and recycling practices compared to the inactivated green consumer group, whereas active green consumers behaved more strongly on the whole, when compared to those in the inactivated green consumer group.

  • This study conceptualized the factors affecting college students' consumer decision-making styles from the perspective of consumer socialization. A number of antecedent variables identified by preceding studies (age, gender, place where one grew up, job experience, main reason for working, amount of allowance, family income, socio-economic status) and socialization agents such as family, peers, mass media were included in the analysis. This study extends previous studies by examining a theoretical link between the antecedent variables and socialization agents. Three hundred and forty one undergraduate students in Daejeon were participated in this study. Stepwise multiple regression md path analysis were conducted. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Six consumer decision-making styles were identified. 2. The influence of the socialization agents, especially mass media and several antecedent variables, especially gender and main reason for working, played important roles in consumer decision-making styles. 3. Several antecedent variables, especially gender and family income, were related only with the influence of socialization agents. 4. Six path-analysis models that illustrate the relationships among the antecedent variables, the socialization agents and consumer decision-making styles were proposed.
