This paper describes a new approach for the operating system level power management to reduce the energy consumed in the IO devices in a robot platform, which provides various functions such as navigation, multimedia application, and wireless communication. The policy proposed in the paper, which was named the Energy-Aware Job Schedule (EAJS), rearranges the jobs scattered so that the idle periods of the devices are clustered into a time period and the devices are shut down during their idle period. The EAJS selects a schedule that consumes the minimum energyamong the schedules that satisfy the buffer and time constraints. Note that the burst job execution needs a larger memory buffer and causes a longer time delay from generating the job request until to finishing it. A prototype of the EAJS is implemented on the Linux kernel that manages the robot system. The experiment results show that a maximum $44\%$ power saving on a DSP and a wireless LAN card can be obtained with the EAJS.

This project is mainly related to evaluation of total energy consumption of low energy house, the exterior envelope of which was wholly composed of structural insulated panels(SIP). The U-value of applied SIP was in the range of 0.189 to $0.269W/m^2{\cdot}K$ and the U-value of pair glass from 0.78 to $1.298W/m^2{\cdot}K$ was applied for window dependent to its function respectively. For comparison of total energy performance, the energy simulation for pilot house was performed to compare with the control house having insulation criteria of Korean building regulation in 2009. Based on simulation of dynamic energy performance, the pilot house saved 48.3% of annual energy consumption while the control house in 2009 consumed as 85.7GJ/y. In case of heating, the result showed that the energy saving ratio amounted to 76.7%. For $CO_2$ emission, the pilot house diminished approximately 35.4% from $6,208.4kgCO_2$ to $4,009.2kgCO_2$. In payback period to early investment, it was analyzed the pilot house took 7.8 years, when the low energy house built by other insulation method with same thermal perfusion took 11.5 years. From this result, it is considered that the SIP is more effective, economic to Green Home application.
Longanae Arillus (the rind of fruits of Dimocarpus longan) has been consumed for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety in Asia. To provide further scientific basis to traditional uses of this fruit on insomnia, we evaluated the effects of methanol extract of Longanae Arillus (MELA) on the alteration of sleep architecture and electroencephalogram (EEG) power spectra in acutely and chronically restraint-stressed rats. Following postsurgical recovery, Polygraphic signs of sleep-wake activities were recorded for 24 h after MELA administration in rats. Rats in the acute stress and chronic stress were administered with MELA for 10 days. On the $8^{th},\;9^{th}\;and\;10^{th}$ day of MELA administration, the rats were stressed for 3 h once per day. On the $10^{th}$ day and 1 h after MELA administration, the rats were stressed once for 22 h in the chronic stress group. Acute and chronic stress induced alternations in cortex EEG recordings during non-rapid eye movement (NREM), rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and wakefulness. MELA shortened the total and REM sleep and increased the wakefulness in night time recording without changing daytime recordings. Chronic stress increased wakefulness and REM sleep, decreased total and NREM sleep in the daytime recording, and increased REM and decreased NREM sleep without changing total sleep and wakefulness in night time recording. These findings suggest that MELA ameliorated the alterations in REM and NREM sleep of acutely and chronically stressed rats via modulation of cortical ${\alpha}-$, ${\theta}-$ and ${\delta}-$ wave activity.
We demonstrated a CNT synaptic transistor by integrating 6,6-phenyl-C61 butyric acid methyl ester(PCBM) molecules as charge storage molecules in a polyimide(PI) dielectric layer with carbon nanotubes(CNTs) for the transistor channel. Specifically, we fabricated and compared three different kinds of CNT-based synaptic transistors: a control device with $Al_2O_3/PI$, a single PCBM device with $Al_2O_3/PI:PCBM$(0.1 wt%), and a double PCBM device with $Al_2O_3/PI:PCBM$(0.1 wt%)/PI:PCBM(0.05 wt%). Statistically, essential device parameters such as Off and On currents, On/Off ratio, device yield, and long-term retention stability for the three kinds of transistor devices were extracted and compared. Notably, the double PCBM device exhibited the most excellent memory transistor behavior. Pulse response properties with postsynaptic dynamic current were also evaluated. Among all of the testing devices, double PCBM device consumed such low power for stand-by and its peak current ratio was so large that the postsynaptic current was also reliably and repeatedly generated. Postsynaptic hole currents through the CNT channel can be generated by electrons trapped in the PCBM molecules and last for a relatively short time(~ hundreds of msec). Under one certain testing configuration, the electrons trapped in the PCBM can also be preserved in a nonvolatile manner for a long-term period. Its integrated platform with extremely low stand-by power should pave a promising road toward next-generation neuromorphic systems, which would emulate the brain power of 20 W.
The heat of evaporation (cold energy) of LNG is the energy consumed in the production of LNG. This energy amounts to 14% of the NG. In Pyungtak LNG terminal, it is about 96 MW in 1993. In order to utilize the cold energy, the cold power generation systems are investigated: The Rankine cycle using the low temperature energy, the partial expansion cycle using the pressure energy, and the Linde process which is a combined cycle of the Rankine and the partial direct expansion cycle. The commercial simulator, ASPEN Plus, is used. The conceptual design data are obtained from the current facilities of the Pyungtak LNG terminal. The performances of three systems are evaluated. The amount of electric power ranges iron 3 MW to 6MW. The optimum energy efficiency is about 37%. The optimum design conditions are obtained for the partial direct expansion (PDE) cycle. The performance of the PDE cycle is supposed to be comparable to that of the Rankine cycle if the areas of the total heat exchanger of the both cycle are equal.

This paper presents Single-bit Third order Delta-Sigma Modulator, which can be applied to the Low speed High resolution ADC in Audio signal Process System. Whereas the Operational Amplifier in modulator consumed static power dissipation in operating, this modulator used Switching on/off techniques, which makes the Power dissipation of the modulator reduced. Also proposed modulator minimizes frequency characteristic variation by optimizing switch position. And this modulator chooses Single-bit type to guarantee stability. The designed ADC went through 0.35um CMOS n-well 1-poly 4-metal process to be a final product, and the final product has shown 17.1mW of power dissipation with 3.3V of Supply Voltage, 6.4MHz of conversion rate. And 84.3dB SNDR and 13.5bit ENOB with 20KHz of input frequency.

Purpose: In this study, the performance of cooling system with the water-water heat pump system of 100kW scale made for cooling agricultural facilities, especially for horticultural facilities, was analyzed. It was intended to suggest performance criteria and performance improvement for the effective cooling system. Methods: The measuring instruments consisted of two flow meters, a power meter and thermocouples. An ultrasonic and a magnetic flow meter measured the flow rate of the water, which was equivalent to heat transfer fluid. The power meter measured electric power in kW consumed by the heat pump system. T-type thermocouples measured the temperature of each part of the heat pump system. All of measuring instruments were connected to the recorder to store all the data. Results: When the water temperature supplied into the evaporator of the heat pump system was over $20^{\circ}C$, the cooling Coefficient Of Performance(COP) of the system was higher than 3.0. As the water temperature supplied into the evaporator, gradually, lowered, the cooling COP, also, decreased, linearly. Especially, when the water temperature supplied into the evaporator was lower than $15^{\circ}C$, the cooling COP was lower below 2.5. Conclusions: In order to maintain the cooling COP higher than 3.0, we suggest that the water temperature supplied into evaporator from the thermal storage tank should be maintained above $20^{\circ}C$. Also, stratification in the thermal storage tank should be formed well and the circulating pumps and the pipe lines should be arranged in order for the relative low-temperature water to be stored in the lower part of the thermal storage tank.
The CFB boilers technology is facing a number of challenges. Among them, boiler tube erosion, sintering by bed inventory overheating and high self consumed service power are major ones. This study was conducted to obtain allowable bed inventory with the Yeosu Power Plant, a 300 MW class CFB boiler. For the test, bed pressure was reduced from design pressure of 4.5 KPa to 2.5 KPa by reducing bed inventory, at fixed turbine output, coal consumption rate and air flow. Consequently, reducing the lower bed inventory is effective to decrease bed temperature but excessive reducing might increase bed temperature due to lack of circulating fluidized materials. Also, in case of the Yeosu Plant boiler using subbituminous coal as its primary fuel, its bed temperature change is highly affected by not only the amount of bed inventory, but also the boiler capacity and coal contents.

This study reports the relationship between rollingstock weight and acceleration performance for HEMU-430X, the first electric multiple unit developed in Korea. While maintaining the consumed power, the total train weight was deliberately varied by 2%, by adding and removing weights, and the it was shown that the lighter train was found to have higher acceleration performance and hence better suited for maximum speed tests below the speed of 413km/h. According to the power consumption analysis based on the velocity data collected per 0.1 second, the balanced speed, when the traction force and air resistance become equal, was determined to be 419km/h for HEMU-430X, which is in agreement with tested result. It is expected that the analyses in this study will be utilized for the speed tests in the future.
This paper proposes a Self-Reset Zero-Current Switching (ZCS) Circuit for thermoelectric energy harvesting. The Self-Reset ZCS circuit minimizes the operating current consumed by the voltage comparator, thereby reduces the power consumption of the energy harvesting circuit and improves the energy conversion efficiency by adding the self-reset function to the comparator. The Self-Reset ZCS circuit shows 3.4% of improvement in energy efficiency compared to the energy harvesting system with the conventional analog comparator ZCS for the output/input voltage ratio of 5.5 as a result of circuit simulation. The proposed circuit is useful for improving the performance of the wearable and bio-health-related harvesting circuits, where low-power and energy-efficient thermoelectric energy harvesting is needed.
