  • The information generated from large and complex construction projects transfer and evolve in long-term business cycle. Therefore, while there is any problem, such as delay, the cause of the problem might relate to the previous business process rather than where it arises. However, for complex project players and business relationships, it is unsuitable to search an information flow using traditional retrieval methods. This research addresses a relationship-based information search system to analyze the information flow in large-scale and complex construction projects. First, we identified the components of the information retrieval system customizing for a large-scale complex construction projects, and then developed the inference algorithm which define the relationship between business processes. For the validation, we applied the system on a business information system of urban regeneration projects and suggested some application using information flow retrieval system for project players and project managers. Using the system, players are easy to prepare for their work process and managers can define the causal flow of the problem.

  • Simple statistical frequency based analysis, such as Pareto analysis, are widely used in conventional accident analysis. However, due to the dynamic and complex nature of construction works, many factors can simultaneously affect or involve the occurrence of accidents in construction projects. Therefore, the identification of the complex relationship between such factors is important to establish relevant and effective safety management policies and/or programs. In this study, characteristic factors and their relationships' contribution to non-fatal accidents in construction projects are analyzed using the association rule mining (ARM) technique. To this end, a total of 59,202 construction accident data are collected from 2015 to 2019 and the ARM is performed to retrieve specific relationships -named as association rules-among classified factors in the data. Characteristics of the retrieved relationships are analyzed and compared with the results of conventional Pareto analysis. Based on the results, it is found that both fall and trip are notable accident forms having characteristic relations with other factors for non-fatal accidents in construction projects. It is also found that small-scale construction, age of 50s, less than 1 month of working period, and architectural construction are important factors for non-fatal accidents in construction projects.

  • Nuritkum Square Project is a IT Complex which is being constructed in Digital Media City. The project consists of several buildings and is a Design-build, so that the systematic construction management from design to construction stage is more important for a successful project. This study introduces the practical tasks of construction management during the project and analyze some of main tasks to increase understanding construction management in the design-build project. Based on experience of construction management in this project, we examine managerial problems which frequently occur in this kind of project, and suggest how to improve construction management in Korea.

  • Analysis is given of construction and stability of complex symmetric analogues of Householder matrices, with applications to the eigenproblem for such matrices. We investigate numerical properties of the deflation of complex symmetric matrices by using complex symmetric Householder transformations. The proposed method is very similar to the well-known deflation technique for real symmetric matrices (Cf. [16], pp. 586-595). In this paper we present an error analysis of one step of the deflation of complex symmetric matrices.

  • Due to unique characteristics of small construction companies, safety management is comprised of complex problems (e.g., resources constraints, a lack of formalized management structures, low level of management safety commitment etc.). In order to understand causal interdependencies between safety factors at different system levels (regulation, organization, technical and individual), this paper aims to develop a system dynamics (SD) model of safety management in small construction companies. The purpose of the SD model is to better understand why small construction companies have low level of safety performance. A causal loop diagram (CLD) was developed based on literature, with an attempt to map causal relationships between variables. The CLD was then converted into stock and flow diagram for simulation. Various tests were conducted to build confidence in the model's ability to represent the reality. A number of policies were analyzed by changing the value of parameters. The value of a system dynamics approach to safety management in small construction companies is its ability to address joint effects of multiple safety risk factors on safety performance with a systems thinking perspective. By taking into account feedback loops and non-linear relationships, such a system dynamics model provides insights into the complex causes of relatively poor safety performance of small construction companies and improvement strategies.

  • This study draws economic expense factors according to the influence of generation resulted from slipstream and the arrangement of the complex when arranging and designing the complex for offshore windpower development as a model of 50MW offshore wind farm and conducts economics analysis. According to the result of the analysis, O (Optimize) arrangement was the one that has the highest generation for having the best windpower resources in terms of design and being least affected by slipstream; however, the arrangement requires expensive submarine cables and high installation cost. Therefore, according to the analysis of economics, it was thought that 50MW complex should have less economics as BC ratio 0.95 than the series arrangement of main wind direction and I+80 series arrangement would be rather more economical. This economics evaluation provides comparison according to the arrangement of the development complex considering the uncertainty of the electricity price and gross construction cost. And it is expected that the result of economics evaluation would greatly differ by installation capacity, and the reason is that the cost of electric infrastructure takes up a higher portion than the gross construction cost of the development complex. The only way to compensate this part is to make the windpower development complex larger. It seems that it will be necessary to enhance spot applicability to evaluate economics afterwards and pay consistent attention to and conduct follow-up research on the economics evaluation of the complex construction.

  • It has become mandatory to designs by BIM in construction. It is urgent to make accurate decisions through the linkage between complex and various types of data in projects. In particular, block-chain based data sharing process (using BIM files, general construction submitted files) is essential to support reliable decision making in complex data flood systems. Prior to developing data sharing system based on block-chain, in this paper, a data linkage method is proposed so that practitioners can simultaneously utilize existing construction information and BIM data. Examples are shown based on the construction classification system and file expression, and incentive strategies are explored through a survey so that heterogeneous information can be used at the same time in overall projects.

  • Hazard recognition is considered as one of the pre-requisites for effective hazard management and injury prevention. However, in complex and changing environments, construction workers are often unable to identify all possible hazards that can occur in the jobsite. Therefore, identification of factors that impact hazard recognition in the work environment is necessary to reduce safety incidents as well as to develop strategies that can improve worker's hazard recognition performance. This study identified factors/problems that impact worker's hazard recognition abilities and suggested some potential technologies that can mitigate such problems. Literature reviews of journal articles and published reports related to hazard recognition studies were conducted to identify the factors. The study found out that the major factor responsible for affecting worker's hazard recognition abilities were human-related. Industry factors, Organizational factors and Physical factors of the site were the other factors identified from the study that impact worker's hazard recognition performances. The findings from the study can help site personnel recognize areas where effective measures can be directed towards worksite safety of workers while working in complex construction environments.

  • A construction project is a complex process consisting of interdependent tasks. If one task has variation, other tasks will be affected additionally and it is difficult to reach consensus on task variation due to the characteristics of the construction site that is going on quickly and complicatedly. Therefore, this study identified the root cause of task variation in construction process. Adjacent matrix was created with the tasks corresponding to major causes of variation, and the network analysis was performed. The results of social network analysis in the construction process can stabilize the work flow in the complex process and improve the reliability of the process plan and the project performance.

  • Polymer concrete has more excellent durability, tensile strength, flexural strength and waterproof performance mechanically than normal concrete, and as it mixes as a polymer binding material, it can reduce the cement use amount. This study reviews fundamental properties of cement material mixed with complex polymer. As a result of this study, as percentage of complex polymer mix increases, flow value will decrease so that liquidity and compression strength will decrease. On the other hand, in case of flexural strength, when the mixture is 10%, it increases significantly more than OPC.
