Test for the influence of socket connection structure on the seismic performance of RC prefabricated bridge piers

  • In order to obtain the impact of socket connection interface forms and socket gap sizes on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) socket prefabricated bridge piers, quasi-static tests for three socket prefabricated piers with different column-foundation connection interface forms and reserved socket gap sizes, as well as to the corresponding cast-in-situ reinforced concrete piers, were carried out. The influence of socket connection structure on various seismic performance indexes of socket prefabricated piers was studied by comparing and analyzing the hysteresis curve and skeleton curve obtained through the experiment. Results showed that the ultimate failure mode of the socket prefabricated pier with circumferential corrugated treatment at the connection interface was the closest to that of the monolithic pier, the maximum bearing capacity was slightly less than that of the cast-in-situ pier but larger than that of the socket pier with roughened connection interface, and the displacement ductility and accumulated energy consumption capacity were smaller than those of socket piers with roughened connection interface. The connection interface treatment form had less influence on the residual deformation of socket prefabricated bridge piers. With the increase in the reserved socket gap size between the precast pier column and the precast foundation, the bearing capacity of the prefabricated socket bridge pier component, as well as the ductility and residual displacement of the component, would be reduced and had unfavorable effect on the energy dissipation property of the bridge pier component.

  • Daily workers in construction sites rarely receive the benefit of systematic safety and health training as they are required to move from one construction site to another in response to the start, completion, and repetition of construction works. Also, small- to medium-sized construction sites often lack the capacity to train their workers. Therefore, as in the advanced countries, basic safety training system for construction workers should be conducted in the industrial-level, rather than in individual workplace-level, to make the training more effective. By doing so, only workers with the basic safety training will be able to engage in construction works. Consequently, accidents in the construction industry will decrease, as workers themselves who are at the forefront of the construction worksites are empowered to play the central role in accident prevention activities.

  • Korean government is carrying out educational training program for the competencies of the construction engineers. However, this training program is insufficient to take advantage of the practice. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the satisfaction and problems of educational programs at training graduates. And we have suggested the improvement directions of educational program. The results of this study, satisfaction of training programs for construction engineers generally was investigated highly. However, this has been underestimated in terms of capacity-building abroad. And there are operational problems including lack of educational programs using in construction site, lack of training program courses in few work sector and lack of graded training program. Therefore, we have proposed the development direction of training program for construction engineers to solve this problem.

  • Safety accident rate of small-medium construction site is high. because of lack of safety management system, lack of safety management capacity, lack of investment for safety, Owner's insufficient awareness about safety. In order to improve this, Currently in Occupational Safety and Health Act, Construction site of amounts more than 300 million won less than 120 billion (architectural),150 billion won(civil) mandatory subject to the technical guidance on construction accident prevention. Context of construction accident causes with construction accident rate relationship analysis and case analysis of technical guidance, through a survey of stakeholders in the technical guidance drawn the problems of the construction accident prevention technical guidance system and ways to improve on this.

  • As the introduction of new climate system, efforts to change carbon neutrality, efforts to convert carbon neutrality. In Korea, we are setting up carbon emissions through greenhouse gas and energy target management system for business and companies that emit carbon emissions. The construction industry quantitatively predict the carbon emissions, but it is struggling to set up the amount of carbon emissions before construction stage, but it is suffering from lack of data. Therefore, this study was conducted by collecting data on the energy usage amount of carbon emissions according to the energy usage of the construction phenomenon and low-capacity prediction of the construction phenomenon. Through collected data, the average energy usage amount by building users and evaluated the average carbon emissions. It also evaluated the contribution of carbon emissions by energy sources.

원심모형실험을 활용한 선단확장형 마이크로파일의 설치 메커니즘 평가 (Evaluation of the Installation Mechanism of the Micropile with the Base Expansion Structure Using a Centrifuge Model Test)

  • 마이크로파일은 기초의 지지력 증대와 침하량 저감을 위해 건설분야에서 널리 활용되는 기초이다. 본 기초는 낮은 건설비용, 단순한 시공 프로세스와 비교적 작은 장비로 시공이 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 최근 지지력을 효과적으로 증대시킬 수 있는 선단확장형 마이크로파일이 개발되었다. 본 기초는 수직하중이 재하될 때 마이크로파일 선단부에 설치된 지압구가 팽창하여 주변지반에 작용하는 수평토압을 증가시키며, 이로 인해 기초의 지지력이 향상된다. 하지만, 현재까지 지압구 확장 메커니즘과 지지력 증대효과가 실험적으로 명확히 검증되지 않았다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 지압구의 설치효과를 검증하기 위해 원심모형실험이 수행되었다. 이를 위해, 모래지반과 풍화암으로 구성된 지반을 각각 조성하고, 실제 선단확장형 마이크로파일에 대한 하중재하실험을 수행하였으며, 기초에 수직하중이 작용할 때 지압구 주변에 설치된 토압계를 통해 지압구의 팽창거동을 관찰하였다. 실험 결과, 30kN의 하중이 기초에 작용할 때 모래지반에서는 수직토압대비 수평토압의 증가량(∆σh/∆σ𝜈)이 0.4 - 0.58의 범위를 보였으며, 풍화암지반에서는 ∆σh/∆σ𝜈 = 0.19로 확인되었다. 본 결과를 통해 지압구 확장에 따른 수평토압 증가가 실험적으로 확인되었으며, 이로 인해 마이크로파일의 지지력이 증가될 것으로 판단된다.

  • The typical hydraulic system of hoist is composed of a hydraulic supply unit, a directional control valve, two pilot operated check valves, two flow control valves. The capacity coefficients of flow control valves should be adjusted for the hoist to operate at moderate speed and minimize the hydraulic energy loss. However, it is difficult to adjust the four capacity coefficients of flow control valves by trial and error for optimal operation. The steady state model of the hoist hydraulic system is derived and the optimal capacity coefficients of flow control valves are obtained using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method.

Strength Prediction of Corbels Using Strut-and-Tie Model Analysis

  • A strut-and-tie based method intended for determining the load-carrying capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) corbels is presented in this paper. In addition to the normal strut-and-tie force equilibrium requirements, the proposed model is based on secant stiffness formulation, incorporating strain compatibility and constitutive laws of cracked RC. The proposed method evaluates the load-carrying capacity as limited by the failure modes associated with nodal crushing, yielding of the longitudinal principal reinforcement, as well as crushing or splitting of the diagonal strut. Load-carrying capacity predictions obtained from the proposed analysis method are in a better agreement with corbel test results of a comprehensive database, comprising 455 test results, compiled from the available literature, than other existing models for corbels. This method is illustrated to provide more accurate estimates of behaviour and capacity than the shear-friction based approach implemented by the ACI 318-11, the strut-and-tie provisions in different codes (American, Australian, Canadian, Eurocode and New Zealand).

  • The uncertainty of long term electricity plan consists of the uncertainty of demand forecast and additional generating capacity. Demand forecast is clearly improved the accuracy than the past through improving forecasting methods. However, the uncertainty of additional generating capacity is increased due to the change of market environment. In an operation by a sole utility, additional generating capacity would be possible by the regulation of government. Currently the generation companies have spined off from KEPCO and some IPPs participate the electricity market. It increases the uncertainty due to weakened regulation. Also the environment movement by NGOs and occurrence of civil affairs cause the increase of uncertainty. This research would analyze the current situation on the uncertainty of additional generating capacity and construction delays. Furthermore this research would present the plan to reflecting it in long term electricity plan.

  • The procurement of generation and transmission/Distribution capacity in vertically-integrated electric industry is sufficient by facility construction in suitable time. However, the introduction of competitive electricity market increase the efficiency of availability for facilities and fuels. As a result, long-term capacity procurement is required for stable demand-supply balance since it is expected to maintain their generation capacity at a minimum for profit maximization. In this paper, a new long-term capacity procurement mechanism is proposed, which is able to assure supplemental contribution in competitive electricity market.
