  • Objectives The relationship between depression, obesity, life style of adolescents has been reported, but the results were not consistent. Thus this study was designed to find out the relationship. Methods The participants were the first and second grade middle school students. The participants were asked to measure their height and weight etc, and were asked to survey questionnaires. To diagnose the students' degree of depression, Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) by Kovas and Beck. Results The average depression score in the obese group was significantly higher than that of the normal body weight group. In addition, male obese group scored higher on CDI than the female obese group, and the obese group of participants who don't exercise, but like to play computer games and watch TV scored higher on CDI than the group who exercise and don't play computer games. Conclusions This study proved that depression in adolescent was closely related with obesity and obesity-related lifestyles. "The research was supported by the Kyung Hee University Research Fund in 2007"(KHU-20071638).

  • Virtual Seat Method (VSM) is used in this study for a combined evaluation method (objective & subjective) to determine comfort value of passenger vehicle seat in terms of idle vibration. In the study, a process for applying VSM divided into two stages is established. Two kinds of seat mounting passenger vehicle and six subjects are employed to compare the comfort value obtained by VSM method and by SEAT value. As a conclusion, the results by the two methods were well consistent so that VSM is verified as a method to measure ride comfort of seat in terms of idle vibration at passenger vehicle.

  • Pyrenophora graminea, the causal agent of leaf stripe disease, is an economically important pathogen of barley found worldwide. It is critical to clearly define and standardize the leaf stripe assessment methods to avoid subjectivity and variability between assessors. Therefore, in this study, a comparison between the proportion of diseased plants (DP) and the proportion of diseased leaves (DL) per plant was investigated. Disease assessments were made visually at multiple sample sites in artificially and naturally inoculated research and production fields during four growing seasons. There were significant differences (P = 0.001) among cultivars in mean DP and DL averages, which are consistently higher in susceptible barley. However, DP values increased linearly as DL increased. The slopes and intercepts of the DP-DL relationship were consistent over the four growing seasons. This result might make a significant contribution for leaf stripe assessment in barley breeding programme.

  • This study investigated the relation between preschoolers' individual and parents 'characteristics and preschoolers' emotional understanding and regulation. Subjects were 2004 and 5-year-old children and their parents. Interview tasks were used as research instruments used to measure preschoolers 'emotional understanding and regulation. Preschoolers' temperament and parents characteristics were measured by questionnaires based on several previous studies. The results revealed that preschooler's emotional understanding and regulation were significantlv different according to mothers' attitude style, emotional expressiveness, and attitude toward children's emotional expressiveness. The results are consistent with recent research showing that parents emotional socialization may be important for preschoolers' emotional understanding and regulation.

  • We present observational estimation of the infrared (IR) luminosity function (LF) of local (z < 0.3) star-forming (SF) galaxies derived from the AKARI NEP-Wide samples. We made an analysis of the NEP-Wide data with optical spectroscopic information allowing an accurate determination of luminosity function. Spectroscopic redshifts for about 1650 objects were obtained with MMT/Hectospec and WIYN/Hydra, and the median redshifts is about 0.22. To measure the contribution of SF galaxies to the luminosity function, we excluded AGN sample by comparing their SEDs with various model template. Spectroscopic redshifts and the AKARI's continuous filter coverage in the mid-IR (MIR) wavelength (2 ~ 25 micron) enable us to avoid large uncertainties from the mid-IR SED of galaxies and corresponding k-corrections. The 8-micron luminosity function shows a good agreement with the previous works in the bright-end, whereas it seems not easy to constrain the faint-end slope. The comparison with the results of the NEP-Deep data (Goto et al. 2010) suggests the luminosity evolution to the higher redshifts, which is consistent with the down-sizing evolutionary pattern of galaxies.

  • A miniature single solder ball joint is designed to mimic the actual solder joints used in the micro-electric industries. Shear tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical behavior of miniature single solder joints at intermediate strain rates from $0.019\;s^{-1}$ to $2.16\;s^{-1}$ at room temperature. The shear fracture strength of the present solder ball joints generally increased with increasing shear strain rate, ranging from 32 to 51MPa. This behavior is affected by the sensitivity of bulk solder strength to strain rate. Shear fracture mode changed from brittle to partial ductile (failure inside the bulk solder) with an increase of shear speed. The unloading shear fracture toughness is generally consistent with the measure of the amount of bulk solder on the fractured surface.

  • This paper details a robust and efficient algorithm for point classification with respect to a polygon in 2D real number domain. The concept of tolerance makes this algorithm robust and consistent. It enables to define‘on-boundary’ , which can be interpreted as either‘in-’or‘out-’side region, and to manage rounding errors in floating point computation. Also the tolerance is used as a measure of reliability of point classifications. The proposed algorithm is based on a ray-intersection technique known as the most efficient, in which intersections between a ray originating from a given test point and the boundary of a region are counted. An odd number of intersections indicates that the point is inside region. For practical examples the algorithm is most efficient because most edges of the polygon region are processed by simple bit operations.

  • The correlation between black hole mass and galaxy stellar velocity dispersion gives an important clue on the black hole growth and galaxy evolution. In the case of AGN, however, it is extremely difficult to measure stellar velocity dispersions in the optical spectra since AGN continuum dilutes stellar absorption features. In contrast, stellar velocity dispersions of active galaxies can be measured in the near-IR, where AGN-to-star flux ratio is much smaller, particularly with the laser-guide-star adaptive optics. However, it is crucial to test whether the stellar velocity dispersion measured from the near-IR spectra is consistent with that measured from the optical spectra. Using the TripleSpec at the Palomar 5-m Telescope, we obtained high quality spectra ranging from 1 to 2.4 micron for a sample of 35 nearby galaxies, for which dynamical black hole masses and optical stellar velocity dispersion measurements are available, in order to calibrate the stellar velocity dispersion in the near-IR. In this poster, we present the initial results based on 10 galaxies, with the stellar velocity dispersion measured in the H-band.

  • During the last two decades, impact factor has been widely used as a journal evaluation metric that differentiates the influence of a specific journal compared with other journals. However, impact factor does not provide a reliable metric between journals in different subject categories. For example, higher impact factors are given to biology and general sciences than those assigned to other traditional engineering and social sciences. This study initially analyzes the trend of the time series of the impact factors of the journals listed in Journal Citation Reports during the last decade. This study then proposes new journal evaluation metrics that adjust the impact factors across different subject categories. The proposed metrics possibly provides a consistent measure to mitigate the differences in impact factors among subject categories. On the basis of experimental results, we recommend the most reliable and appropriate metric to evaluate journals that are less dependent on the characteristics of subject categories.

  • The Korean sounding rockets(KSR) 1, 2 equigped with the UV optical detectors have been launched at An-heung, Chungchongnam-do, of June 4 and September 1, 1993,respectively. The UV detector is used to measure the attenuation of solar UV radiation for various frequency bards in the stratospgere. We obtained the profile of the ozone number density within the altitulde of 15 - 30 km by applying the Beer-Lambert law. It is found that the maHimum of the ozone distribution occurs near 2sht which is quite consistent with the mean value in the mid-latituderegions. We will also compare our results froiu KSR 1,2 with the other observational data from the Dobson speceo meter at Yonsei Univ. and the LIDAa which were performed simultaneously with the sounding rocket experiments.
