  • In [20] and [22], the author proved that the union of two linear star-configurations in $\mathbb{P}^2$ of type $t{\times}s$ with $3{\leq}t{\leq}10$ and $t{\leq}s$ has generic Hilbert function. In this paper, we prove that the union of two linear star-configurations in $\mathbb{P}^2$ of type $t{\times}s$ with $3{\leq}t$ and $({a\atop2})-1{\leq}s$ has also generic Hilbert function.

  • We find a graded minimal free resolution of the union of two star configurations ${\mathbb{X}}$ and ${\mathbb{Y}}$ (not necessarily linear star configurations) in ${\mathbb{P}}^n$ of type s and t for s, $t{\geq}2$, and $n{\geq}3$. As an application, we prove that an Artinian ring $R/(I_{\mathbb{X}}+I_{\mathbb{Y}})$ of two linear star configurations ${\mathbb{X}}$ and ${\mathbb{Y}}$ in ${\mathbb{P}}^3$ of type s and t has the weak Lefschetz property for $s{\geq}{\lfloor}\frac{1}{2}(^t_2){\rfloor}$ and $t{\geq}2$.

  • This study describes a new method of constructing Reconfigurable machine tools configurations from a set of modules or components. This proposed method defines combinability vector for each module and mutual combinability coefficient matrix for adjacent two modules. All of machine configurations possible to be generated from any two adjacent modules can be determined by quadratic form of two associated combinability vectors. Furthermore, all of possible RMT configurations generating from a series of multiple modules also can be obtained by multiplying quadratic form of two adjacent conbinability vectors recursively. Our proposed RMT configuration generating method can be successfully applied to determining all of possible machine configurations from several modules or components at conceptual- or preliminary- design stage.

  • An analytical study was carried out on the flow resistance of tree-shaped channel flow architectures, based on the principle of the constructal law of evolutionary increase of flow access through the generation of better flowing configurations with two diameters in the square domain. Two types of tree-shaped configurations are optimized. The minimized global flow resistance decreases definitely as the system size, N, increases. And the best channel configurations among the first construct and second construct as a result of regarding pressure drop was selected. We also show that the freedom to morph the design and to increase its performance can be enhanced by using tree-tree configurations with $2^{nd}$ construct when N is greater than 18.

  • The mechanical behaviours of the structure made from composite materials or the structure with periodic configurations depend not only on the macroscopic conditions of structure, but also on the detailed configurations. The Two-Scale Analysis (TSA) method for these structures, which couples the macroscopic characteristics of structure with its detailed configurations, is configurations, is presented for 2 or 3 dimensional case in this paper. And the finite element algorithms based on TSA are developed, and some results of numerical experiments are given. They show that TSA with its finite element algorithms is more effective.

  • Modeling product configurations needs large amounts of knowledge about technical and marketing restrictions on the product. Previous attempts to automate product configurations concentrate on representations and management of the knowledge for specific domains in fixed and isolated computing environments. Since the knowledge about product configurations is subject to continuous change and hard to express, these attempts often failed to efficiently manage and exchange the knowledge in collaborative product development. In this paper, XML Topic Map (XTM) is introduced to represent and exchange the knowledge about product configurations in collaborative product development. A product configuration model based on XTM along with its merger and inference facilities enables configuration engineers In collaborative product development to manage and exchange their knowledge efficiently. An implementation of the proposed product configuration model is presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach enables enterprises to exchange the knowledge about product configurations during their collaborative product development.

  • This study presents an analytical investigation on the seismic response of a medium-rise buckling-restrained braced frame (BRBF) under the near-fault ground motions. A seven-story BRBF is designed as per the current code provisions for five different combinations of brace configurations and beam-column connections. Two types of brace configurations (i.e., Chevron and Double-X) are considered along with a combination of the moment-resisting and the non-moment-resisting beam-to-column connections for the study frame. Nonlinear dynamic analyses are carried out for all study frames for an ensemble of forty SAC near-fault ground motions. The main parameters evaluated are the interstory and residual drift response, brace displacement ductility, and plastic hinge mechanisms. Fragility curves are developed using log-normal probability density functions for all study frames considering the interstory drift ratio and residual drift ratio as the damage parameters. The average interstory drift response of BRBFs with Double-X brace configurations significantly exceeded the allowable drift limit of 2%. The maximum displacement ductility characteristics of BRBs is efficiently utilized under the seismic loading if these braces are arranged in the Double-X configurations instead of Chevron configurations in BRBFs located in the near-fault regions. However, BRBFs with the Double-X brace configurations exhibit the higher interstory drift and residual drift response under near-fault ground motions due to the formation of plastic hinges in the columns and beams at the intermediate story levels.

  • In this paper we describe Wilcoxon test and T-test that are well-known in two-sample location problem for detecting edges under different window configurations. The choice of window configurations is an important factor in determining the performance and the expense of edge detectors. Our edge detectors are based on testing the mean values of local neighborhoods obtained under the edge model using an edge-height parameter. We compare three window configurations based on statistical tests in terms of qualitative measures with the edge maps and objective, quantitative measures as well as CPU time for detecting edge.

  • A modular manipulator in serial-chain structure usually consists of a series of modularized revolute joint and link modules. The geometric shapes of these modules affect the number of possible configurations of modular manipulator after assembly. Therefore, it is important to design the geometry of the joint and link modules that allow various configurations of the manipulators with minimal set of modules. In this paper, a new 1-DoF(degree of freedom) joint module and simple link modules are designed based on a methodology of joint configurations using a series of Rotational(type-R) and Twist(type-T) joints. Two of the joint modules can be directly connected so that two types of 2-DoFs joints could be assembled without a link module between them. The proposed geometries of joint and link modules expand the possible configurations of assembled modular manipulators compared to existing ones. Modular manipulator system of this research can be a cornerstone of user-centered markets with various solution but low-cost, compared to conventional manipulators of fixed-configurations determined by the provider.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop computer programs to aid in the design and analysis of control systems in which nonlinear characteristics exist. Control systems are dynamic systems, which can be described using various mathematical models. A convenient model for digital computer simulation is the state model in which described using a set of linear and non linear first order differential equations. The digital simulation was performed on a IBM PC/XT personal computer, and the computer language was BASIC. There are four possible configurations from which a user may choose. When running a program, the user is asked to enter the system parameters according to a specified control system configurations are; 1. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant in a feedback configurations(NLSVF1). 2. A control system with a nonlinear device situated between two plants in a feedback configurations(NLSVF2). 3. A control system with a nonlinear element followed by a plant, followed by a the dealy in feedback configurations(TLAG). 4. A motor and load with a backlash nonlinearity between dynamic portions of the motor/load configurations (BACKLASH). The matrix from state equations are integrated using combination the trapezoidal method and fixed point iteration. Several cases which have nonlinearity were implemented on the computer and the results were discussed.
