Concrete has been used for many years as a composite material that has excellent mechanical properties and durability for construction. However, concrete is a poor electrical conductor, especially under dry conditions. Concrete that is excellent in both mechanical and electrical conductivity properties may have important applications in the electrical, electronic, military and construction industry(e.g. for de-icing road from snow). The purpose of this investigation is to improve the electrical conductive of cement mortar preparared with coke dust, graphite, carbon black and carbon fiber as filler. From the test result, as the content of electrically conductive material increased, fluidity and strength decreased but resistivity decreased. The resistivity of electrical conductive cement mortar is effect by water/cement, and aggregate. Cement mortar containing carbon fiber has the best electrical properties considering strength. From this study, it is enough to assure the use of carbon fiber, carbon black and graphite as a conductive filler for electrical conductive cement mortar.

The increased awareness of electromagnetic wave hazards has prompted studies on electromagnetic shielding using conductive materials in the construction industry. Previous studies have explored the effects of the types of conductive materials and their mix proportions on the electromagnetic shielding performance; however, there has been insufficient research on the effect of the geometry of the conductive materials on the electromagnetic shielding performance. Therefore, in this study, the dependence of the electromagnetic shielding performance on the cross-sectional geometry, diameter and length of fibers was investigated. The results showed that the electromagnetic shielding performance improved when the fiber length increased or the diameter decreased, but the effect of the cross-sectional geometry of the fibers was smaller than the effect of the fiber spacing factor.

The cementitious composites have been developed to satisfy various demands of the construction market. The conductive concrete, which is a carbon-based cementitious composite, was used for the deicing or the detecting the internal crack. The cement-based battery is a technology that applies the basic concept of the alkaline battery to these conductive concretes. The cementitious composites could have a function as batteries, through a mixing of anode and cathode, which were consist of the zinc and manganese dioxide powder. The carbon-based materials, which have a significant effect on electrical properties, could be considered as the main variable in cement-based batteries. Therefore, in this study, the effects of carbon-based materials were investigated. Two types of materials, including the Carbon black and Multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWCNT), were considered as the main variables. From the experiment results, the electrical characteristics such as resistance, voltage, and current were compared according to the age.
Copper nano particles have been considered as the materials for conductive ink due to its good thermal, electrical conductivity and low cost. However, copper nanoparticles oxidize easily, decreasing dispersion stability and electrical conductivity. Therefore, it is important to develop a method to minimize oxidation of copper nano particles to improve its dispersion stability property in copper nano ink. In this study, copper nano particles were coated with 1-Octanethiol VSAM(Vaporized Self Assembled Multilayers) to prevent oxidation and coated copper powders were dispersed in conductive ink successfully by studying its relationship of different chain length of solvents to 1-Octanethiol coating layer to fabricate nano ink. Various alcohol solvents, such as 1-Hexanol, 1-Octanol, and 1-Decanol were used. The coating layer was observed using FESEM and TEM. Furthermore, dispersion of copper nano particles in nano inks, was characterized using Turbiscan analyzer, viscometer, and contact angle measurement tool.

In this study the method based on flux linkage in cell was introduced in calculation of eddy currents by cell method. According to this method eddy current distribution and the loss can be evaluated and since the shielding effectiveness by flux cancelation of eddy current can be analyzed, this method is applicable to design of conductive shield. And also the formula of shielding factor were so deduced as to be applicable to finite-width infinite-length shielding sheets and infinite-length underground cable shield. These formula are adaptable to magnetic materials as well as conductive materials. As the results of calculation in model shields are follows. In case of finite-width infinite-length shielding sheet, shielding effectiveness increases with increasing of conductivity. In case of infinite-length underground cable shield, the effectiveness become higher with increasing of permeability. Especially the effectiveness is very high in materials with both high conductivity and permeability in underground cable shield.
A conductive additive is prepared by dispersing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on Cu powder by mechanical milling and is distributed in epoxy to enhance its electrical conductivity. During milling, the MWCNTs are dispersed and partially embedded on the surface of the Cu powder to provide electrically conductive pathways within the epoxy-based composite. The degree of dispersion of the MWCNTs is controlled by varying the milling medium and the milling time. The MWCNTs are found to be more homogeneously dispersed when solvents (particularly, non-polar solvent, i.e., NMP) are used. MWCNTs gradually disperse on the surface of Cu powder because of the plastic deformation of the ductile Cu powder. However, long-time milling is found to destroy the molecular structure of MWCNTs, instead of effectively dispersing the MWCNTs more uniformly. Thus, the epoxy composite film fabricated in this study exhibits a higher electrical conductivity than 1.1 S/cm.
Noncontact direct-printed conductive silver patterns with an enhanced electrical resistivity are fabricated using a silver ink with a mixture of silver nanoparticles and nanoplates. The microstructure and electrical resistivity of the silver pattern are systematically investigated as a function of the mixing ratio of the nanoparticles and nanoplates. The pattern, which is fabricated using a mixture with a mixing ratio of 3(nanoparticles):7(nanoplates) and sintered at $200^{\circ}C$ shows a highly dense and well-sintered microstructure and has a resistivity of $7.60{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. This originates a mutual synergistic effect through a combination of the sinterability of the nanoparticles and the packing ability of the nanoplates. This is a conductive material that can be used to fabricate noncontact direct-printed conductive patterns with excellent electrical conductivity for various flexible electronics applications, including solar cells, displays, RFIDs, and sensors.
The interconnection mechanisms of a smart anisotropic conductive adhesive (ACA) during processing have been characterized. For an understanding of chemorheological mechanisms between the fluxing polymer and solder powder, a thermal analysis as well as solder wetting and coalescence experiments were conducted. The compatibility between the viscosity of the fluxing polymer and melting temperature of solder was characterized to optimize the processing cycle. A fluxing agent was also used to remove the oxide layer performed on the surface of the solder. Based on these chemorheological phenomena of the fluxing polymer and solder, an optimum polymer system and its processing cycle were designed for high performance and reliability in an electrical interconnection system. In the present research, a bonding mechanism of the smart ACA with a polymer spacer ball to control the gap between both substrates is newly proposed and investigated. The solder powder was used as a conductive material instead of polymer-based spherical conductive particles in a conventional anisotropic conductive film.
The electroconvection generated on the surface of an ion exchange membrane (IEM) is closely related to the electrical/chemical characteristics or topology of the IEM. In particular, when non-conductive regions are mixed on the surface of the IEM, it can have a great influence on the transfer of ions and the formation of nonlinear electroconvective vortices, so more theoretical and experimental studies are necessary. Here, we present a novel method for creating microscale non-conductive patterns on the IEM surface by laser ablation, and successfully visualize microscale vortices on the surface modified IEM. Microscale (~300 ㎛) patterns were fabricated by applying UV nanosecond laser processing to the non-conductive film, and were transferred to the surface of the IEM. In addition, UV nanosecond laser process parameters were investigated for obvious micro-pattern production, and operating conditions were optimized, such as minimizing the heat-affected zone. Through this study, we found that non-conductive patterns on the IEM surface could affect the generation and growth of electroconvective vortices. The experimental results provided in our study are expected to be a good reference for research related to the surface modification of IEMs, and are expected to be helpful for new engineering applications of electroconvective vortices using a non-conductive patterned IEM.
