Detection of delamination damage in composite beams and plates using wavelet analysis

  • The effectiveness of wavelet transform in detecting delamination damages in multilayered composite beams and plates is studied here. The damaged composite beams and plates are modeled in finite element software ABAQUS and the first few mode shapes are obtained. The mode shapes of the damaged structures are then wavelet transformed. It is observed that the distribution of wavelet coefficients can identify the damage location of beams and plates by showing higher values of wavelet coefficients at the position of damage. The effectiveness of the method is studied for different boundary conditions, damage location and size for single as well as multiple delaminations in composite beams and plates. It is observed that both discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) can detect the presence and location of the damaged region from the mode shapes of the structures. DWT may be used to approximately evaluate the size of the delamination area, whereas, CWT is efficient to detect smaller delamination areas in composites.

  • This paper presents both experimental and numerical investigation of the combustion characteristics of stretched premixed lift-off flames using synthetic gas($H_2$/CO) in an impinging burner. We used "Spin code" for numerical analysis. An ICCD camera was employed to measure flame location and flame thickness. The impinging surface temperature was affected by local strain rate K, equivalence ratio, and composition ratio of fuel. In spite of the difference of boundary conditions in experimental and numerical results, the tendencies of surface temperatures were agreed. From result of this work, we also found that flame location and flame thickness directly related to surface temperature are greatly affected by local strain rate K.

  • In this study,the procedure of interpolation surface modeling on bicubic spline patch equation and NC machining are presented. The procedure consists of three parts : patch modeling,cutter location data generation,post processing and NC milling machining. For generation of the cutter location data,tangent vectors and units normal vectors on the patch must be calculated. In order to investigate the properties of the interpolation surface created by bicubic spline patch, two kinds of end conditions, clamped end condition and relaxed end condition,were applied in this study. The shape of the patch depends on the magnitide of the tangent vectors and twist vectors at the corners of bicubic surface patch. the patch generated by relaxed end condition more approximated to the surface patch which was given.

  • In this paper, a novel algorithm of underground cable fault location based on the analysis of distributed parameter circuit is proposed. The proposed method makes voltage and current equations about core and sheath, and then establishes a function of the fault distance according to the analysis of fault conditions. Finally gets the solution of this function through Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm has been verified by Matlab program, and the cable parameters such as impedance and admittance are from EMTP simulation.

핑거프린트를 이용하는 클라이언트 기반 실내 측위 시스템의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Client-Based Indoor Positioning System using Fingerprint)

  • Recently, interests on positioning system for location-based services have been significantly increased. Many indoor environment systems using fingerprint scheme have been designed to take more accuracy of positioning, but they are inefficient in adapting to change of environments. In this paper, we focus on a client-based positioning system over WLAN for decreasing installation cost and adapting to change of environments. In the proposed system, APs with stable RSSI are selected as base APs independently for each reference point. Experimental results show that proposed system expands service area approximately 20% much than traditional systems using K-NN algorithm and needs only 20% modification process to fingerprint data compare with traditional systems whenever environment conditions are changed.

자기단 전원임피던스 추정을 이용한 송전선 고장점표정 알고리즘 (Transmission Line Fault Location Algorithm Using Estimated Local Source Impedance)

  • A fault location algorithm using estimated local source impedance after a fault is proposed in this paper. The method uses after fault data only at the local end. It uses the negative sequence current distribution factor for more accurate estimation. The proposed algorithm can keep up with the variation of the local source impedance. Therefore, the proposed algorithm especially is valid for a transmission line interconnected to a wind farm that the equivalent source impedance changes continuously. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified under various fault conditions using the Simpowersystem of MATLAB Simulink. The proposed algorithm is largely insensitive to the variation in fault distance and fault resistance. The test results show a very high accurate performance.

  • 교통신호기의 설치목적 중 하나는 교통신호기를 통해 차량의 이동을 명확히 규제하여 교통사고를 사전에 방지하는데 있다. 하지만, 부적절한 신호기 위치로 인해 교차로에 접근하는 운전자가 안전운행에 필요한 행태를 나타내지 못한다면, 교통 안전도를 높이기 위한 방안으로 현장상황에 적합한 설치기준 또는 권고사항이 현장조사 및 분석을 통해서 제시되어야 할 필요가 있다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 도심 신호교차로의 신호기 위치가 교차로에 접근하는 운전자의 운전행태에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석한 결과, 신호기 위치는 딜레마존을 형성하는 운전자의 감속시작지점과 접근속도에 따른 딜레마존 분포에 영향을 미치며, 더욱이 딜레마존 안전율과 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 본 연구는 신호교차로의 교통안전도를 향상하기 위한 대안으로 교통신호기를 정지선 근처로 이설 또는 설치하는 방안을 다룬 신호기 설치운영 권고안을 제안하여 현장 활용도를 제고하고자 하였다.

사출성형해석을 이용한 수직머시닝센터 ATC 툴 포트의 사출 게이트 위치에 따른 성형성 평가 (Evaluation of Formability Dependent on the Location of Injection Gate of Vertical Machining Center ATC Tool Port Using Injection Molding Analysis)

  • Injection molding is a manufacturing method of melting the polymer resin and injecting it into a mold to molding it into the desired form. Due to the short molding time and outstanding formability, complex products can be shaped with high precision and it is the most widely used polymer molding method. However, there may be areas that are not filled depending on the location of the injection gate where polymer resin is injected. Formability is determined by deformation and surface precision due to the impact of residual stress after molding. Hence, choosing the location of the injection gate is very important and molding analysis of injection molding is essential to reduce the cost of the mold. This study evaluated the injection formability based on the location of the injection gate of the vertical machining center ATC tool port using injection molding analysis and the results were compared and analyzed. Injection molding analysis was conducted on filling, packing, and deformation according to the location of the gate of the ATC tool port. From each injection gate location, filling time, pressure, and maximum deformation were compared. At gate 2, conditions of molding time and the location of the gate were far superior in production and quality. Gate 2 produced the smallest deformation of 0.779mm with the best quality.

  • In this paper, we investigated the SLS process to control grain boundary(GB) location in TFT channel region, and it has been found to be applicable for locating the GB at the same location in the channel region of each TFT. We fabricated TFT by applying a new alignment SLS process and compared the TFT characteristics with a normal SLS method and the grain boundary location controlled SLS method. Also, we have analysed degradation phenomena under hot carrier stress conditions for n-type LDD MOSFETs.

고속도로 생태통로 위치 선정 방법에 관한 연구 - 경부 고속도로 양재-판교 구간을 중심으로 - (Approach to the Location of Wildlife Corridors on Highways - Between Yang-jae and Pan-gyo ICs of Seoul-Busan Highway, Korea -)

  • Ecosystem fragmentation by human intervention breaks down the biosphere habitat. Wildlife corridors connect biosphere habitats to maintain ecosystem continuity and provide animals with connecting routes. In Korea, there are 17 existing wildlife corridors on highways (as of December, 2006. Korea Freeway Corporation). There are 24 highway routes, 2,923km of highway(as of December, 2004. Korea Freeway Corporation). However, wildlife corridors are not enough and roadkill increases every year, so we need to construct additional wildlife corridors on highways. This study proposes a new approach to the location of wildlife corridors on highways, using a comprehensive analysis method for main location elements, and applies it to a study area. First, it examines traditional approaches to location of wildlife corridors through literature review and field study to analyze the present conditions of existing wildlife corridors. Then, it developes a comprehensive analysis method for the location of wildlife corridors. (1) Field investigation : investigate planting, water bodies and so on. (2) Roadkill analysis : roadkill counts, locations, time, and so on. (3) Monitoring : animal traces were surveyed and sensor cameras were installed to determine target species. (4) Simulation for animal movement : most probable wildlife dispersal was simulated by a computer software. (5) A new comprehensive approach overlays all analysis on a map and determines the location of proposed new wildlife corridors. In conclusion, it proposes an over-bridge type wildlife corridor in Dalnaenae Hill (413-414km from Busan) and an underpass type near the entrance to Gwanhyun temple way (415-416km from Busan). This new approach based on roadkill data, computer simulation of wildlife dispersal, monitoring of animals, and site analysis, may contribute to better location of wildlife corridors on highways.
