  • The flow analysis is needed to verify the physical phenomena through interruption processes for improving the capacity and the reliability of gas circuit breakers. Moreover the small current interruption performance of GCBs could be predicted by coupling the flow characteristics with the electric field one. In this paper, the unsteady flow characteristics and the traveling trajectory are depicted with a commercial CFD code, PHOENICS, programmed for moving motion of objects. In order to validate computational results, the measured pressure data in cylinder and in front of arcing contact are compared with the test results of small current interruption.

  • The theoretical membrane gas absorption module treatments in a hollow fiber gas-liquid membrane contactor using Happel's free surface model were obtained under countercurrent-flow operations. The analytical solutions were obtained using the separated variable method with an orthogonal expansion technique extended in power series. The $CO_2$ concentration in the liquid absorbent, total absorption rate and absorption efficiency were calculated theoretically and experimentally with the liquid absorbent flow rate, gas feed flow rate and initial $CO_2$ concentration in the gas feed as parameters. The improvements in device performance under countercurrent-flow operations to increase the absorption efficiency in a carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas feed mixture using a pure water liquid absorbent were achieved and compared with those in the concurrent-flow operation. Both good qualitative and quantitative agreements were achieved between the experimental results and theoretical predictions for countercurrent flow in a hollow fiber gas-liquid membrane contactor with accuracy of $6.62{\times}10^{-2}{\leq}E{\leq}8.98{\times}10^{-2}$.

  • The instruction level parallelism, which has been used to improve the performance of processors, expose its limit. The change of a control flow by a branch miss prediction is one of the obstacles that restrict the instruction level parallelism. The single chip multiprocessors have been developed to utilize the thread level parallelism. However, we could not use the maximum performance of the single chip multiprocessor in case of executing the coded programs without considering the multi-thread. In order to overcome the two performance degradation factors, in this paper, we suggest the concurrent branch execution method that applies to the multi-path execution method at a single chip multiprocessor. We executes all two flows of the conditional branch using the idle core processor. Through this, we can improve the processor's efficiency with blocking the control flow termination by the branch instruction and reducing the idle time. We analyze the effects of concurrent branch execution proposed in this paper through the simulation. As a result of that, concurrent branch execution reduces about 20% of idle time and improves the maximum 10% of the branch prediction accuracy. We show that our scheme improves the overall performance of maximum 39% compared to the normal single chip multiprocessor and maximum 27% compared to the superscalar processor.

  • We proposed a preliminary Data Flow Machine Model(DNL1) operating on the basis of Node Label. In this model, all the PMs(Processing Modules) were synchronized with the content of LC(Level Counter) and were not implemented dy the processing cability on conditional nodes. This paper presents an architecture of a concurrent multiprocessor system which was developed from DNL1 with two additional types of memories, CF(Control Flag) and ETF (Enabled Token Flag). The CF memory holds the control condition flag ('1' or '0') to be referenced to when a node is fired and the ETF represents the firability of a certain node. Firable nodes are fetched to the PU(Processing Unit) and processed. This Data Flow system can be extended hierarchically by a network of simple modules. The principle working elements of the machine are a set of PMs, each of which performs the execution of the data flow procedures held in a local memory, NTM(Node Token Memory) within the PM.

  • The bubbly flow of air or steam in subcooled water are investigated here in several test cases, characterized by different pipe sizes, bubble dimensions and flow rates, by means of CFD using a Eulerian-Eulerian approach. The performance of models that differ for the turbulence closure in the continuous phase, as well as for the description of the lift force on the dispersed phase, are compared in detail. When air is considered, the space of the experimental parameters leading to a reasonable performance for the selected models are identified and discussed, while the issues left in the modelling of the concurrent condensation are highlighted for the cases where steam is used.

  • A semi-empirical correlation has been developed for adiabatic interfacial friction factors in a long horizontal air-water countercurrent stratified flow conditions. Using a pipe and duct test sections, a series of experiments hate been conducted varying non-dimensional water depth and flow rates of air. On the basis of simultaneous measurement of the main flow parameters in a horizontal pipe and a duct, a semi-empirical correlation for the interfacial friction factor in a stratified flow regime has been developed employing a new concept of surface roughness in wavy flow. A total of 201 data point, including 15 concurrent pipe flow test data of others, have been used in the present analysis. A comparison between the data and the predictions of the present correlation shows that the agreement is within $\pm$30%.

  • The heating and cooling performances of system multi-air conditioner for various refrigerant flow rates with high-head and long-line conditions are experimentally investigated. The maximum head and tube length were 110 m and 1000 m, and the two different adjustments of refrigerant flow rates were +20 % and -20 %, respectively. The experimental system was composed of 4 outdoor units with module systems, and 13 indoor units which were joined with the mode change unit by single-tube circuit. Field tests without indoor and outdoor temperature control were performed in a general office building with two different refrigerant flow rates. Especially, the oil level in the compressor was normally maintained at the safety zone. Experimental results were prepared on the p-h diagram.

  • The concurrent injection of cosolvent and air, a cosolvent-air (CA) flood was recently suggested for a dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) remediation technology. The objectives of this study were to elucidate the DNAPL removal mechanisms of the CA flood and to quantify mass transfer rate coefficients during CA flooding. DNAPL removal mechanisms were examined by evaluating the effects of air flow rate and DNAPL solubility and visually documented at a pore-scale. Two serial processes, immiscible displacement and dissolution, were experimentally and visually documented during CA flooding. Mass transfer rate coefficients (K) were computed from the data showing PCE saturation versus time. Results showed that CA floods exhibited higher K values than cosolvent floods without concurrent air injection. • This study proposes a process information model which can integrate various activities during the product development process, the system which can manage the process. Development process information will allow designers and managers to access previous tasks readily and utilize the information in making decisions at hand. While developing products in heterogeneous and distributed environments, concurrent and collaborative designs can be achieved by STEP. The process model in this study divides the task of product development into two fundamental parts, Specific Process(SP) and Normal Process(NP). SP includes the specific information and refer to those defined by prior STEP. NP is routine process excluded from being defined as SP. Due data information can be added to manage development pace and to show delayed tasks. As two or more different processes can be linked to show the entire development flow, Static STEP information can be dynamically interlaced. Remote location operations can be incorporated on the Internet using STEP, and information can be shared. The system has been built upon a process model schema so that task stage, design history, and different development style can be managed and accessed for each component. The system has been proven efficient in information management and exchange by several scenario testings.
