  • This study was conducted in the southwestern area of Korea using a neuston net in September (14 stations) 2017 to understand the environmental factors affecting neustonic zooplankton. Temperature, salinity, chlorophyll a concentration, suspended solids, and microplastics were included as environmental factors. Based on the density of the copepods, the study area was divided into three regions: the Seomjin River water influence area, the frontal mixing area, and the warm water affected area (Jeju warm current and Tsushima warm current). In the latter two areas, the major species were Pontella chierchiae, Canthocalanus pauper, and Oncaea spp. Also, neustonic zooplankton showed a significant relationship between the density of phytoplankton and microplastics in the frontal mixing area, and temperature and suspended solids in the warm water affected area, respectively (p<0.05). This indicates that microplastics can affect the offshore zooplankton community.

  • This work was performed to develop a model possible to predict the influent flow and influent components, which are one of main disturbances causing process problems at the operation of municipal wastewater treatment plant. In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) was used in order to develop a model that was able to predict the influent flow, $COD_{Mn}$, SS, TN 1 day-ahead, 2day-ahead and 3 day ahead. Multi-layer feed-forward back-propagation network was chosen as neural network type, and tanh-sigmoid function was used as activation function to transport signal at the neural network. And Levenberg-Marquart (LM) algorithm was used as learning algorithm to train neural network. Among 420 data sets except missing data, which were collected between 2005 and 2006 at field plant, 210 data sets were used for training, and other 210 data sets were used for validation. As result of it, ANN model for predicting the influent flow and components 1-3day ahead could be developed successfully. It is expected that this developed model can be practically used as follows: Detecting the fault related to effluent concentration that can be happened in the future by combining with other models to predict process performance in advance, and minimization of the process fault through the establishment of various control strategies based on the detection result.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of three cognitive tasks on gait at a preferred walking speed, and at a fast speed, using dual-task methodology. A total of 29 stroke patients participated in the study. All 29 subjects performed 2 motor tasks (10-meter walk task and timed up and go task each at a preferred and a fast speed) and three cognitive tasks [Stroop, word list generation (WLG), serial subtraction (SS)] under dual-task conditions [cognitive-motor interference (CMI)] in a randomized order. Gait speeds were measured in six different conditions. A repeated-measure analysis of variance was employed to compare the results of the Stroop training, WLG, and SS tasks during preferred and fast walking. A Bonferroni adjustment use for post hoc analysis. The level of statistical significance was set at ${\alpha}=.05$. A CMI effect occurred for performance of a 10-meter walking task at two different speed and a cognitive task (p<.05). Stroop had a significantly greater effect than SS and WLG (p<.05). The timed up and go task was affected when performed with fast walking speed during Stroop cognitive task (p<.05), but was not affected if performed with preferred walking speed during a cognitive task (p>.05). This study showed that CMI of Stroop can be used as a rehabilitation program for stroke patients.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of four common types of Qigong position (standing, sitting, supine, and horse-riding position) on the autonomic nervous system. Thirty healthy subjects participated in this study once a week for four weeks. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was measured three times (before, during, and after the position) while the subject maintained one of four positions for ten minutes. There were significant changes in HRV components compared with EEG power spectra in the standing position. Especially, the ratio of low-to-high frequency (LF/HF) which represents a state of balance of autonomic nervous system was increased. In the sitting position, $\beta$ wave which reflects a state of alert consciousness was increased and both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves were activated. On the other hand, in the spine position, $\theta$ wave which signifies a state of relaxation was increased and heart rate (HR) was decreased. Activation of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves was also observed in this position. Significant increases of indices related to awakening and concentration were observed accompanied by increase of HR and a sympathetic nerve was activated in the riding-horse position. In the present study, it was shown that each Qigong position caused various and significant changes in autonomic nervous system. It would be expected that these results can be applied in the choice of appropriate Qigong position according to objective of Qigong therapy although it is remained to further evaluate the effects of long-term maintenance of Qigong positions and repeated Qigong training.

  • In this paper, we attempted to analyze the balance ability of the body by measuring changes in body motion and plantar pressure distribution. So we developed a program that can measure and analyze range of motion and center of body pressure using inertial measurement unit(IMU) and FSR(Force Sensing Resistor) sensor, we also produced a contents that can help improve the balance ability. The quantitative values of range of motion and center of body pressure measured by this program are visualized in real time so that the user can easily recognize the results. In addition, the contents were designed to be adjusted according to the direction of improving the balance ability by adjusting the difficulty level based on the measured balance information. This can be achieved by increasing the concentration and participation will by using visual feedback method that proceeds while watching moving objects according to the user's motion.

  • Algal blooms have caused problems for drinking water as well as eutrophication. However it is difficult to control algal blooms by current warning manual in rainy season because the algal blooms happen in a few days. The water quality data, which have high correlations with Chlorophyll-a on Daecheongho station, were analyzed and chosen as input data of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) for training pattern changes. ANN was applied to early forecasting of algal blooms, and ANN was assessed by forecasting errors. Water temperature, pH and Dissolved oxygen were important factors in the cross correlation analysis. Some water quality items like Total phosphorus and Total nitrogen showed similar pattern to the Chlorophyll-a changes with time lag. ANN model (No. 3), which was calibrated by water temperature, pH and DO data, showed lowest error. The combination of 1 day, 3 days, 7 days forecasting makes outputs more stable. When automatic monitoring data were used for algal bloom forecasting in Daecheong reservoir, ANN model must be trained by just input data which have high correlation with Chlorophyll-a concentration. Modular type model, which is combined with the output of each model, can be effectively used for stable forecasting.
