  • The objective of the present work is to develop a time-domain numerical method of broadband noise in a cascade of airfoils. This paper focuses on dipolar broadband noise sources, resulting from the interaction of turbulent inflows with the flat-plate airfoil cascade. The turbulence response of a two-dimensional cascade is studied by solving both of the linearised and the full nonlinear Euler equations employing accurate higher order spatial differencing, time stepping techniques and non-reflecting inflow/outflow boundary condition. The time-domain result using the linearised Euler equations shows good agreement with the analytical solution using the modified LINSUB code. Through the comparison of the nonlinear time-domain result using the full nonlinear Euler equations with the linear, it is found that the acoustic mode amplitude of the nonlinear response is less than that of the linear response due to the energy cascade from low frequency components to the high frequency ones. Considering the merits of the time-domain methods over the typical time-linearised frequency-domain analysis, the current method is expected to be promising tools for analyzing the effects of the airfoil shapes, non-uniform background flow, linear-nonliear regimes on the broadband noise due to turbulence-cascade interaction.

  • The blood flow characteristics have been closely related to various cardiovascular diseases, it is very important to predict them accurate enough in an efficient way. Thus, this paper proposes a one-dimensional spectral element model for the blood flow through blood vessels. The spectral element model is formulated by using the variational method. The nonlinear terms in spectral element model are all treated as the pseudo-force and an iterative solution method is applied in the frequency domain.

  • In this paper we propose a new efficient generalized sidelobe canceller(GSC) algorithm, using the efficient frequency domain LMS algorithm, which has much less weights to update. We only update part of all the weights according to magnitude of each frequency bin. So, the new proposed GSC algorithm, which is called censored GSC(C-GSC), can greatly reduce the computational complexity.

  • We propose a method of surface extension method using several functions. Interpolation theory is well developed in curve and surface. But extrapolation theory is not well developed because it is not unique outside the useful domain. It requires continuous, first derivative, second derivative continuous extension for matching in NC(Numerical Control) machine. In the past, we generate data outside the useful area and refit those data using least squares method. this has some problems which have some errors within the useful area. We keep the useful area and extend the unuseful area by a function

  • A general approach to automatic generation of triangular meshes on three-dimensional surfaces is presented in this paper. The approach, developed with emphasis on program generality and interface with CAD/CAM systems, is based on the double mapping method and the looping method. The double mapping method is introduced and anew splitting scheme is proposed for the looping method employed for triangular mesh generation on the parametric domain. Several application examples are given.

  • This paper deals with the stress singularity induced at the interface corner between the viscoelastic thin film and the rigid substrate as the film absorbs moisture from the ambient environment. The rime-domain boundary element method is employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. The order of the free-edge singularity is obtained numerically for a given viscoelastic model. It is shown that the free-edge stress intensity factor is relaxed with time,'while the order of the singularity increases with time for the viscoelastic model considered.

  • A parallelized topology design optimization method is developed on a distributed memory system. The parallelization is based on a domain decomposition method and a boundary communication scheme. For the finite element analysis of structural responses and design sensitivities, the PCG method based on a Krylov iterative scheme is employed. Also a parallelized optimization method of optimality criteria is used to solve large-scale topology optimization problems. Through several numerical examples, the developed method shows efficient and acceptable topology optimization results for the large-scale problems.

  • This paper provides readers with an attempt In applying expert systems to structural engineering. As a demonstrative domain to provide the pontentiality of expert system foundation design is presented. Foundation design can have less formalized phage in the overall design process, particularly during preliminary design. It depends on several factors: the function of the structure and the loads it must carry the subsurface conditions, and the cost of foundation, The expert system in the paper is to be used for determining the type of foundation.

  • An incompressible flow stover based on the unstructured finite volume method has been developed. The flow domain is discretized by triangles in 2D or tetrahedra in 3D. The convective and viscous fluxes are obtained using edge connectivities of the unstructured meshes. The pressure-velocity coupling is handled by the artificial compressibility algorithm due to its computational efficiency associated with the hyperbolic nature of the resulting equations. Laminar test flow problems are computed and presented with a comparison against other numerical solutions or experimental results.
