  • Compression and rebounding properties of IP(injection phylon), PH(phylon) and PU(polyurethane) foams were studied. The compression stress, rebounding stress, loss compression energy and storage compression energy of foams were decreased with increasing hardness of foams. The compression stress, loss compression energy of IP foams were lower than those of PH and PU. Rebounding stress and storage compression energy of PU foams were higher than those of IP and PH. The compression stress and rebounding of PH foam were lower than those of IP and PU.

  • We introduce DCNN and DRAE appraoches for compression of medical videos, in order to decrease file size and storage requirements, there is an increasing need for medical video compression nowadays. Using a lossy compression technique, a higher compression ratio can be attained, but information will be lost and possible diagnostic mistakes may follow. The requirement to store medical video in lossless format results from this. The aim of utilizing a lossless compression tool is to maximize compression because the traditional lossless compression technique yields a poor compression ratio. The temporal and spatial redundancy seen in video sequences can be successfully utilized by the proposed DCNN and DRAE encoding. This paper describes the lossless encoding mode and shows how a compression ratio greater than 2 (2:1) can be achieved.

  • Anatomical characteristics on abnormal type of bisected compression woods and light colored wood intervened between these dark colored compression woods on under part and their respective opposite woods on upper parts of cross section in Pinus densiflora S. et Z. stem were compared through optical microscopic investigation. and the obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. Tracheid length increased linearly as the number of rings from the pith increases in all investigated parts, but increasing tendency in tracheid length was similar within bisected two compression woods and their opposite woods. 2. Tracheids were the shortest in bisected two compression woods and tracheid length in intervened wood between these two compression woods was longer than in compression woods but shorter than in the opposite woods. 3. Bisected two compression woods and intervened wood between these two compression woods revealed similar features in tracheid transition from springwood to summerwood, intercellular space, tracheid entanglement, and cross sectional view of tracheid. but spiral check was observed only in these two compression woods, therefore the intervened wood between these two compression woods disclosed anatomical characteristics similar to, not typical of, compression woods.

  • The residual settlement due to difference between predicted and observed settlement is one of the social problems during reclaiming construction in the soft ground having a deep depth such as Busan and Gwangyang province. Prediction error for the secondary compression settlement makes the construction much harder. To examine characteristics of the secondary compression settlement, the secondary compression index is the most important factor. In this study, various empirical methods for determining the secondary compression index are evaluated. And errors applied to the design case practically are also explained. The pre loading method is the only way to reduce the secondary compression settlement and reduction ratio of the secondary compression should be investigated correctly. Hence, research results on the reduction ratio of the secondary compression are analyzed in this paper. Moreover, decrement of the secondary compression index due to over consolidation ratio is examined closely by laboratory consolidation test using clay in the Gwangyang area.

  • It was found that the pure hydrogen-air pre-mixture was self-ignited at a high compression ratio without any assisting method in room temperature, thus refuting the preconception that compression ignition of hydrogen engine was impossible. Therefore, in order to analyze the correlation of compression ignition condition at cold start with hydrogen HCCI engine clearly, the possibility of compression igniting compression ratio is investigated with the change of equivalence ratio and engine speed, experimentally. As the results, it is confirmed that the possibility of compression-igniting compression ratio at cold start was decreased by increasing equivalence ratio due to decreasing auto-ignition temperature. In addition, it is grasped that the possibility of compression-igniting compression ratio at cold start is decreased around 14.9% by increasing engine speed at same supply energy.

  • Image compression-decompression methods have become increasingly crucial in modern times, facilitating the transfer of high-quality images while minimizing file size and internet traffic. Historically, early image compression relied on rudimentary codecs, aiming to compress and decompress data with minimal loss of image quality. Recently, a novel compression framework leveraging colorization techniques has emerged. These methods, originally developed for infusing grayscale images with color, have found application in image compression, leading to colorization-based coding. Within this framework, the encoder plays a crucial role in automatically extracting representative pixels-referred to as color seeds-and transmitting them to the decoder. The decoder, utilizing colorization methods, reconstructs color information for the remaining pixels based on the transmitted data. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to image compression, wherein we decompose the compression task into grayscale image compression and colorization tasks. Unlike conventional colorization-based coding, our method focuses on the colorization process rather than the extraction of color seeds. Moreover, we employ the Denoising Diffusion Null-Space Model (DDNM) for colorization, ensuring high-quality color restoration and contributing to superior compression rates. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves higher-quality decompressed images compared to standard JPEG and JPEG2000 compression schemes, particularly in high compression rate scenarios.

  • Recent test data compression techniques raise concerns regarding power dissipation and compression efficiency. This letter proposes a new test data compression scheme, twin symbol encoding, that supports block division skills that can reduce hardware overhead. Our experimental results show that the proposed technique achieves both a high compression ratio and low-power dissipation. Therefore, the proposed scheme is an attractive solution for efficient test data compression.

  • KOMPSAT-2 provides two different imaging methods, direct imaging and playback imaging. For playback imaging operation KOMPSAT-2 has a storage device called DCSU (Data Compression & Storage Unit) to hold images taken before. Compression function is necessary to save memory space and data transmission time to ground station. There are several parameters for compression like compression ratio. Due to DCSU architectural characteristics and KOMPSAT-2 operational limitations, there are some restrictions on selecting compression parameters. This paper will provide selecting guides on compression parameters.

  • A flywheel-driven rapid compression and expansion machine is developed and utilized for experimental study of homogeneous charge compression ignition combustion. Compression ignition of homogeneous charge in IC engines offers possibilities of realizing ultra-lean engine operation with greatly reduced NOx and particulate formation. Fundamental investigations are carried out in order to better understand this ideal engine combustion mechanism. Perfectly premixed propane-air mixtures of various equivalence ratio are compression-ignited in the rapid compression and expansion machine, and the characteristics of the auto-ignition and the following combustion process are analyzed.

  • Medical imaging techniques such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) and Ultrasound (US) produce a large amount of digital medical images. Hence, compression of digital images becomes essential and is very much desired in medical applications to solve both storage and transmission problems. But at the same time, an efficient image compression scheme that reduces the size of medical images without sacrificing diagnostic information is required. This paper proposes a novel threshold-based medical image compression algorithm to reduce the size of the medical image without degradation in the diagnostic information. This algorithm discusses a novel type of thresholding to maximize Compression Ratio (CR) without sacrificing diagnostic information. The compression algorithm is designed to get image with high optimum compression efficiency and also with high fidelity, especially for Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) greater than or equal to 36 dB. This value of PSNR is chosen because it has been suggested by previous researchers that medical images, if have PSNR from 30 dB to 50 dB, will retain diagnostic information. The compression algorithm utilizes one-level wavelet decomposition with threshold-based coefficient selection.
