  • Foreign tourists visiting our country are increasing. Accordingly, diverse crime and inconvenient points of tourism are occurring. It may have the negative effect on the development of tourist industry of our country if this is neglected. The Tourist Police Force has been introduced in 2013 to prevent this. The current status for the Tourist Police Force being implemented in Seoul, Incheon and Busan and the current status in relation to the tourism of our country are checked and following 4 kinds of points at issue have been deducted in this research. First, the cooperation deficit with the regional community and related institutions, second, the incompletion for the selection criteria of Tourist Police Force, third, the insufficient manpower, finally, it is the uniformity of maneuver. The application for the community policing has been proposed as the plan to improve this. For further details, the improvement plan has been proposed by applying the Problem-Oriented Policing, Neighborhood-Oriented Policing and Strategic-Oriented Policing being the component of community policing.

  • The application of polyphenols has attracted great interest in the field of functional foods and nutraceuticals due to their potential health benefits in humans. However, the effectiveness of polyphenols depends on their bioactivity and bioavailability. In the present study, the bioactive component from green tea extract (GTE) was administrated orally (50 mg/kg body weight/day) as free or in a microencapsulated form with maltodextrin in rats fed a high fructose diet. High fructose diet induced features of metabolic syndrome including hypertriglyceridemia, hyperuricemia, increased serum total cholesterol, and retroperitoneal obesity. In addition, myocardial fibrosis was increased. In rats receiving high fructose diet, the lowering of blood triglycerides, total cholesterol, non esterified fatty acid (NEFA) and uric acid, as well as the reduction in final body weight and retroperitoneal fat weight associated with the administration of GTE, led to a reversal of the features of metabolic syndrome (P < 0.05). In particular, the administration of microencapsulated GTE decreased myocardial fibrosis and increased liver catalase activity consistent with a further alleviation of serum NEFA, and hyperuricemia compared to administration of GTE. Taken together, our results suggest that microencapsulation of the bioactive components of GTE might have a protective effect on cardiovasucular system by attenuating the adverse features of myocardial fibrosis, decreasing uric acid levels and increasing hepatic catalase activity effectively by protecting their bioactivities.

  • The growth of CPU and communication technologies have made an important contribution to the development of the network-based intelligent service robots. Robot software must guarantee the correct execution and safety of the user. To achieve this, it is highly required to research how to guarantee the QoS of the components which organize a robot software. The QoS of robot components aims to execute the component stably by processing the data stream in a correct way. By guaranteeing QoS, we can achieve the intelligence and stability of robots. In this paper, we design and implement the QoS framework to guarantee the QoS of robot components on robot platforms with limited resources. We also measure the response times of QoS requests and present the performance analysis results about it.

  • S-Adenosylmethionine (SAM) was previously documented to activate secondary metabolism in a variety of Streptomyces spp. and to promote actinorhodin (ACT) and undecylprodigiosin (RED) in Streptomyces coelicolor. The SAM-induced proteins in S. coelicolor include several ABC transporter components (SCO5260 and SCO5477) including BldKB, the component of a well-known regulatory factor for differentiations. In order to assess the role of these ABC transporter complexes in differentiation of Streptomyces, SCO5260 and SCO5476, the first genes from the cognate complex clusters, were individually inactivated by gene replacement. Inactivation of either SCO5260 or SCO5476 led to impaired sporulation on agar medium, with the more drastic defect in the SCO5260 null mutant (${\Delta}SCO5260$). ${\Delta}SCO5260$ displayed growth retardation and reduced yields of ACT and RED in liquid cultures. In addition, SAM supplementation failed in promoting the production of ACT and RED in ${\Delta}SCO5260$. Inactivation of SCO5476 gave no significant change in growth and production of ACT and RED, but impaired the promoting effect of SAM on ACT production without interfering with the effect on RED production. The present study suggests that SAM induces several ABC transporters to modulate secondary metabolism and morphological development in S. coelicolor.

  • The construction of optical access network costs upper 40% in total installation cost of total optical network. Optimization of access network therefore is core in optical network. Advanced countries include EU, Japan and USA already have researched access network. This paper presents analysis of three broad-band fiber-optics subscriber loop architectures(HFC, ATM-PON, Super PON). The analyses focus on the specific demonstrated architectures and use component cost projections to estimate future network costs on a per-subscriber basis. We use TITAN(Tool for Introduction Scenarios and Techno-Economic Evaluation of The Access Network) model. We find that ATM-PON can deliver voice and ISDN data at installed first costs than the other architectures. This is due to the sharing bandwidth among a cluster of subscribers within Curb. This work intends to support establishing guidelines for strategic decisions regarding the development of the access network alternatives of different operators.

  • Reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition technology has been used to study SiGe heterostructure epitaxy and device issues, including SiGe relaxed buffers, proper control of Ge component and crystalline defects, two dimensional delta doping, and their influence on electrical properties of devices. From experiments, 2D profiles of B and P presented FWHM of 5 nm and 20 nm, respectively, and doses in 5×10/sup 11/ ∼ 3×10/sup 14/ ㎝/sup -2/ range. The results could be employed to fabricate SiGe/Si heterostructure field effect transistors with both Schottky contact and MOS structure for gate electrodes. I-V characteristics of 2D P-doped HFETs revealed normal behavior except the detrimental effect of crystalline defects created at SiGe/Si interfaces due to stress relaxation. On the contrary, sharp B-doping technology resulted in significant improvement in DC performance by 20-30 % in transconductance and short channel effect of SiGe HMOS. High peak concentration and mobility in 2D-doped SiGe heterostructures accompanied by remarkable improvements of electrical property illustrate feasible use for nano-sale FETs and integrated circuits for radio frequency wireless communication in particular.

  • Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT) of KRISO enables us to conduct cavitation tests of the propeller attached to a ship model. As the ship model tests are done at rather high Reynolds number of 107~108, flow measurement system such as pitot tube cannot be employed because of structural safety problems in its system and difficulties in installing it within the test section. Thus, KRISO has developed new 3-D LDV system used in large test section of LCT. There are several difficulties in using 3-D LDV, which did not allow efficient operation of it. The first trouble was the calibration using the conventional pin hole. To make the focus with same laser-beam waists at the wanted position, the high spatial resolution CCD is utilized in the calibration procedure for 3-D LDV. The off-axis configuration provides two velocity components in the horizontal plane and on-axis configuration gives third velocity component in the vertical plane. The horizontal velocity components are also obtained in the coincidence mode, which prevents any misleading results in the off-axis configuration. The nominal wake of Aframax tanker model is measured by the developed 3-D LDV system. The measured hull wake showed good agreement with that obtained by CFD calculation.

  • One major constraint in the development and implementation of a successful and cost-effective area-wide integrated pest management (AW-IPM) programme with a SIT component for Bactrocera oleae (Diptera: Tephritidae) is the ability to produce a large number of high quality mass-reared individuals. The aim of this study was to develop a more efficient and practical egg collection system in an attempt to improve the mass-rearing of this species. The following basic parameters were examined: egg production per female, egg hatch, pupal recovery, pupal weight, adult emergence and percentage of fliers. Three different strains (Israel wild-type, France wild-type, and Greece laboratory) were tested and each strain was evaluated for six generations. Female flies of the Israel strain produced significantly more eggs per female than the other two strains, but egg hatch was significantly lower. Egg hatch of the France wild type and the Greece laboratory strain was similar. For all other parameters, there was no significant difference between strains; however, there was a significant generational effect for all parameters observed. As a result of this study, a protocol was developed for the mass-rearing of this species that included the use of large adult holding cages that could house up to 96,000 flies per cage. The newly developed method of egg collection using a flat wax panel as one of the sides of an adult holding cage proved to be cost-effective, efficient, making colony growth easier for industrial mass-rearing.
