Non-Gaussian wind features over complex terrain under atmospheric turbulent boundary layers: A case study

  • In wind-resistant designs, wind velocity is assumed to be a Gaussian process; however, local complex topography may result in strong non-Gaussian wind features. This study investigates the non-Gaussian wind features over complex terrain under atmospheric turbulent boundary layers by the large eddy simulation (LES) model, and the turbulent inlet of LES is generated by the consistent discretizing random flow generation (CDRFG) method. The performance of LES is validated by two different complex terrains in Changsha and Mianyang, China, and the results are compared with wind tunnel tests and onsite measurements, respectively. Furthermore, the non-Gaussian parameters, such as skewness, kurtosis, probability curves, and gust factors, are analyzed in-depth. The results show that the LES method is in good agreement with both mean and turbulent wind fields from wind tunnel tests and onsite measurements. Wind fields in complex terrain mostly exhibit a left-skewed Gaussian process, and it changes from a softening Gaussian process to a hardening Gaussian process as the height increases. A reduction in the gust factors of about 2.0%-15.0% can be found by taking into account the non-Gaussian features, except for a 4.4% increase near the ground in steep terrain. This study can provide a reference for the assessment of extreme wind loads on structures in complex terrain.

청년층(만19~39세)의 한의의료이용 결정요인 및 행동의도 - 『2017년 한방의료이용 및 한약소비실태조사』 마이크로데이터를 중심으로 - (The Determinants and Behavioral Intentions of Korean Medicine Utilization in Youth Aged 19-39 Years : Based on the microdata of national survey on Korean Medicine Utilization and Herbal Medicine Consumption, 2017)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to analyze characteristics of the Korean Medicine users aged 19-39 years, the determinants of Korean Medicine use and effects of Korean Medicine use experience on behavioral intentions among youths. Methods : We studied Korean Medicine Utilization and Herbal Medicine Consumption Survey(2017) data set by complex-sample survey data analysis. In order to derive the characteristics of younger users, Rao-scott χ2 test and t-test were conducted. Through multiple logistic regression model adjusted by general characteristic variables, the determinants and behavioral intentions of the Korean Medicine utilization among youths were derived. Results : Fist of all, young users and non-users have significant differences in socio-demographic characteristics and perception on Korean Medicine. Among the general characteristic variables, region, age, marital status, occupation, chronic disease, and private health insurance plans had an effect on the Korean Medicine use in young people(Model II). And adjusted by general characteristic variables as control variables, awareness of Korean Medicine and perception of safety of herbal medicine were deduced as determinants of Korean Medicine use(Model III). Secondly, Korean Medicine use experience increased intentions to use and recommend Korean Medicine services(Model IV-1, 3). Conclusions : In order to increase the use of Korean Medicine among young people, Korean Medicine institutions should strive to increase users' satisfaction, and public health insurance coverage for Korean Medicine services needs to be expanded.

  • 세균포자의 안정성과 관련하여 DPA-Ca-spore complex의 해리에 영향을 주는 여러 요인중 15%까지의 NaCl 농도에 의해서 이루어 지는 높은 이온 강도의 효과에 대하여 실험하고 다음과 같이 결론을 얻었다. 1) NaCl에 의한 포자 현탁액중의 이온강도의 변화는 포자로 부터 Ca-DPA의 해리를 촉진시켜 주며 이런 현상은 포자의 열 저항성을 감소시키고 따라서 보관중 포자의 안정성이 상당히 저하 되었다. 2) 세포질의 membrane은 포자내에서 Ca-DPA의 안정성을 유지하는데 permeability barrier로써 중요한 역할을 한다.

Ruminal ciliates as modulators of the rumen microbiome

  • Ruminal ciliates are a fundamental constituent within the rumen microbiome of ruminant animals. The complex interactions between ruminal ciliates and other microbial guilds within the rumen ecosystems are of paramount importance for facilitating the digestion and fermentation processes of ingested feed components. This review underscores the significance of ruminal ciliates by exploring their impact on key factors, such as methane production, nitrogen utilization efficiency, feed efficiency, and other animal performance measurements. Various methods are employed in the study of ruminal ciliates including culture techniques and molecular approaches. This review highlights the pressing need for further investigations to discern the distinct roles of various ciliate species, particularly relating to methane mitigation and the enhancement of nitrogen utilization efficiency. The promotion of establishing robust reference databases tailored specifically to ruminal ciliates is encouraged, alongside the utilization of genomics and transcriptomics that can highlight their functional contributions to the rumen microbiome. Collectively, the progressive advancement in knowledge concerning ruminal ciliates and their inherent biological significance will be helpful in the pursuit of optimizing rumen functionality and refining animal production outcomes.

생물응집제로서 폐영지박 Chitosan-glucan 복합물의 이용성 (Utilization of Chitosan-glucan Complex Extracted from Ganoderma Iucidum Wastes as Bioflocculant)

  • For the purpose of development of non-toxic and biodegradable flocculant, chitosan complex was isolated from Ganoderma lucidum wastes. The isolated complex was identified as the expected chitosan-glucan complex by IR specta. The complex was extracted by treatment of 50% NaOH solution at 120$\circ$C for 5 hrs, namely optimal condition and solubilized with 2% acetic acid for fur-ther use as flocculant. Preliminary experiments showed that the solubilized complex had higher flocculation activity of 1.3 fold than commercial chitosan at 400 mg/l concentration in soybean curd wastewater. Also the solubilized complex removed 83% of MLSS and 60% of COD in the soybean curd wastewater treated by photosynthetic bacteria, 50% of turbidity and 21% of MLSS in sugar industry wastewater, and 90% of turbidity and 89% of MLSS in alcohol fermentation wastewater. Bacterial cell flocculation activities of the solubilized chitosan-glucan complex were 89% in Bacillus subtilis broth, 81% in Streptococcus lactis broth, and more than 90% in Escherichia coli broth after standing for 2 days. The results reveal that chitosan-glucan complex from Ganoderma lucidum wastes can substitute for commercial chitosan as non-toxic and biodegradable flocculant.

  • Exhaustion of fossil fuel resources and high oil price, and furthermore environmental crisis due to emission of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel are serious problems in these days. In order to overcome these problems it is necessary to find and utilize the every energy saving measures and to make maximum utilization of renewable energy resources. 우리나라의 한약 부작용 규모 추정 (Estimation of Adverse Events Scale relating Herbal Medicine in Korea)

  • Objectives : The purpose of study was estimation of adverse events [AEs] scale relating herbal medicine in Korea using Korean Medicine Utilization and Herbal Medicine Consumption Survey (National statistics No. 117087). Methods : Using microdata of Korean Medicine Utilization and Herbal Medicine Consumption Survey 2017, the number of inpatients and outpatients who experienced AEs was calculated. The microdata included AEs of all treatment methods that have been performed by visiting Korean medical institutions for one year, so set up the data into three models; model A (in case all treatments were only herbal medicine for one year), model B (in case herbal medicines were a part of all treatment methods in 1 year), model C (in case herbal medicines were a part of treatment methods at least one time in 1 year). The proportion of patients who experienced AEs during the last 1 year was calculated and then, the number of AEs relating herbal medicine was estimated. Results : A total of 1,010 outpatients and 904 inpatients were included in Korean Medicine Utilization and Herbal Medicine Consumption Survey 2017. The number of patients who had experienced AEs in the past 1 year was 0 in the model A, 9 in the model B (5 for outpatients, 4 for inpatients), and 19 in the model C (10 for outpatients, 9 for inpatients). By consideration for the complex sample survey, estimating the number of AEs relating herbal medicine, the model A was 0, the model B was 36,457 patients (0 to 75,526 patients), and the model C was 84,830 patients (26,314 to 143,347 patients). Conclusion : From the results of this study, it was possible to estimate the scale of AEs relating herbal medicines in Korea, suggesting that it is necessary to understand the actual condition of AEs and establish its management system.

Hydrolysates of lignocellulosic materials for biohydrogen production

  • Lignocellulosic materials are commonly used in bio-$H_2$ production for the sustainable energy resource development as they are abundant, cheap, renewable and highly biodegradable. In the process of the bio-$H_2$ production, the pretreated lignocellulosic materials are firstly converted to monosaccharides by enzymolysis and then to $H_2$ by fermentation. Since the structures of lignocellulosic materials are rather complex, the hydrolysates vary with the used materials. Even using the same lignocellulosic materials, the hydrolysates also change with different pretreatment methods. It has been shown that the appropriate hydrolysate compositions can dramatically improve the biological activities and bio-$H_2$ production performances. Over the past decades, hydrolysis with respect to different lignocellulosic materials and pretreatments has been widely investigated. Besides, effects of the hydrolysates on the biohydrogen yields have also been examined. In this review, recent studies on hydrolysis as well as their effects on the biohydrogen production performance are summarized.

본인부담제도가 의료급여 1종 수급권자의 의료이용에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Copayments on Health Services Utilization in the Type I Medicaid Beneficiaries)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of copayments for doctor visits and prescription drugs on health services utilization in the Type I Medicaid beneficiaries in Korea. Method: This study examined data from the 2007 survey on Health Services Use and Health Status of Medicaid Beneficiaries performed by the Ministry for Health Welfare and Family Affairs. To analyze these sample survey data, the SURVEYFREQ, SURVEYMEANS, and SURVEYREG procedures which incorporate the sample design into the analyses were used. Results: Findings of this study indicate that copayments for doctor visits and prescription drugs of Medicaid Type I beneficiaries have cut overall medical costs. However, although results should be interpreted very carefully because of the relatively low $R^2$, copayments have cut more health services utilization of people who need more health services because of their complex diseases and disability. In addition, besides copayment, several factors are affecting differences in health services utilization before and after copayments implementation. Conclusion: These results highlight the need to examine the effects of copayments more thoroughly according to the kinds of disease, the severity of disease, and the level of copayment.

  • 기존에 개발된 저궤도위성의 원격명령어와 텔레메트리 시스템은 다양한 외부 인터페이스를 효과적으로 수용하는 데 한계가 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이를 극복하기 위한 저궤도위성의 원격명령어와 텔레메트리의 개발 방안을 소개한다. 특히 최근 유럽에서 인공위성의 원격명령어 및 텔레메트리 운용에 이용하고 있는 PUS (Packet Utilization Standard) 개념을 검토하여 차세대 저궤도위성의 데이터 처리에 이용하고자 한다.
