Complex Infinite Impulse Response Filter Equalization for Digital Vestigial Side Band Signals

  • In this paper, we propose a complex-valued IIR filter for digital VSB signals based on CMA in order to efficiently mitigate multipath distortions, especially the leakage from the quadrature component. The proposed equalizer overcomes the drawback of the conventional real-valued IIR equalizers that it attempts to equalize Hilbert transform of quadrature component. We demonstrate via simulation that the proposed complex IIR filter successfully mitigates the leakages from the quadrature component, while the conventional real IIR filter requires a longer IIR filter to achieve the same performance. We present cost function analysis for a simple two-tap case showing that the proposed IIR equalizer with CMA for VSB signals has a global minimum at the desired location.

An Algorithm to Detect QRS Complex and R-wave Using Wavelet Filter (Wavelet filter를 이용한 QRS complex와 R-wave의 검출 알고리듬)

  • 심전도에서 QRS complex와 R-wave의 검출은 부정맥 진단, 심전도의 특성점 검출 기준, heart rate variability(HRV) 측정에 있어서 중요하나, 시시각각 변화하는 생리적 변화와 여러 가지 노이즈로 인해 검출이 쉽지 않다 제안된 알고리듬에서는 wavelet filter banks를 이용하여 대칭적 enhanced 신호와 noise 와 같은 very high frequency 성분이 제거된 ECG에 근사화 된 approximated 신호를 얻는다. Enhanced 신호로부터 QRS complex의 위치를 검출하고, 검출된 위치의 주변에서 대칭적 wavelet의 특성이 반영된 dominant한 peak의 위치정보, 즉 R wave의 후보점을 얻는다. 이 위치 정보를 이용하여 enhanced 신호에서 각 peak에서의 크기, approxi-mated 신호에서 각 peak 주변에서의 기울기 변화, 기울기 부호 등을 고려하여 R-wave의 위치를 원래의 ECG 신호에서 얻는다. MIT/BIH database에 적용한 결과 99.6%의 QRS complex검출률과 92.9%의 R-wave 검출률을 보였다.

  • The transient behavior of the complex-LMS adaptive filter is studied when the adaptive filter is operating on a fixed or sweeping complex frequency sine-wave signal. The first-order difference equation is derived for the mean weights and its closed form solution is obtained. The transient response is represented as a function of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of input correlation matrix. The mean-square error of the algorithm is evaluated as well. An optimal convergence parameter and filter length can be determined for sweeping frequency sine-wave signals as a function of frequency change rate and signal and noise powers.

  • The properties of ferrite bead, a low-pass filter, are determined by the frequency dispersion of the complex permeability. In this study, frequency dispersion of complex permeability of the Ni-Zn ferrites with different Ni/Zn ratio were investigated. Relationship between the behavior of filter and dispersion of complex permeability of a ferrite was studied. As a result, it was concluded that the compositions for Ni/Zn ratio of $0.41{\sim}0.47$, having high initial permeability and good sensitivity, were favorable as a ferrite bead filter.

  • In this paper, a method of ghost cancelling for the television signals using complex adaptive filter is studied. The sin(x)/x signal is used as the reference signal a complex adaptive filter. The ghost cancelling characteristics considering the delay time, the attenuation, and the phase difference of multipath waves are investigated using horizontal sync pulse and color burst signal in composite video waveform. The influences of phase difference in ghost cancelling are investigated and the performances between the real processing and the complex processing are compared by the computer simulation. It was found that influences in ghost by phase difference are remarkably reduced by the complex adaptive filtering.

  • B.Widrow established fundamental relations between the least-mean-square (LMS) algorithm and the digital Fourier transform[1]. By extending these relations, we proposed the short time spectra analysis system using the LMS algorithm[2]. In that paper, we used the normal LMS algorithm on the thought of dealing with only real analytical signal. This algorithm minimizes the real mean-square by recursively altering the complex weight vector at each sampling instant. But, the short time spectra analysis sometimes deals with the complex signal that is outputted from complex analog filter. So, in order to optimize and develop this methods, furthermore it is necessary to derive an algorithm for the complex analytical signal. In this paper, we first discuss the new adaptive system for the spectra analysis using the complex LMS algorithm and then derive convergence condition, time constant of coefficient adjustment and frequency resolution by extending the discussion. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is experimentally demonstrated by applying it to the measurement of transfer performance on complex analog filter.

Complex Quadruplet Zero Locations from the Perturbed Values of Cross-Coupled Lumped Element

  • In this paper, complex quadruplet zeros of microwave filter systems are investigated. For the cascaded systems the chain matrices are most conveniently used to derive the voltage transfer function of Laplace transform with cascaded two-port subsystems. The convenient relations of transfer function and chain matrix are used in order to find the transmission zeros. Starting from a ladder network, we introduced a crossed-coupled lumped element, in order to show the improved response of bandpass filter. By solving the transmission zero characteristic equation derived from the cascaded subsystems, we found the zeros of filter system with externally cross-coupled lumped elements. With the cross-coupled elements of capacitors, the numerator polynomial of system transfer function is used to locate the quadruplet zeros in complex plane. When the two pairs of double are on the zeros -axis, with the perturbed values of element, we learned that the transition band of lowpass filter is improved. By solving the characteristic equation of cascaded transfer function, we can obtain the zeros of the cross-coupled filter system, as a result of perturbed values on lumped element.

  • The visual attention mechanism includes 2 attention models, the bottom-up (B-U) and the top-down (T-D), the physiology of which have not yet been accurately described. In this paper, the visual attention mechanism is regarded as a Bayesian fusion process, and a visual attention model based on particle filter is proposed. Under certain particular assumed conditions, a calculation formula of Bayesian posterior probability is deduced. The visual attention fusion process based on the particle filter is realized through importance sampling, particle weight updating, and resampling, and visual attention is finally determined by the particle distribution state. The test results of multigroup images show that the calculation result of this model has better subjective and objective effects than that of other models.

QRS Complex Detection Algorithm Using M Channel Filter Banks (M 채널 필터 뱅크를 이용한 QRS complex 검출 알고리즘)

  • 본 논문에서는 M 채널 필터 뱅크를 이용하여 심전도 자동 진단 시스템에서 매우 중요한 파라미터로 사용되는 QRS complex 검출을 실시하였다. 제안된 알고리즘에서는 심전도 신호를 M개의 균일한 주파수 대역으로 분할(decomposition)하고, 분할된 서브밴드(subband) 신호들 중에서 QRS complex의 에너지 분포가 가장 많이 존재하는 5∼25Hz 영역의 서브밴드 신호들을 선택하여 feature를 계산함으로써 QRS complex 검출을 실시하였다. 제안된 알고리즘의 성능 비교를 위하여 MIT-BIH arrhythmia database를 사용하였으며, sensitivity는 99.82%, positive predictivity는 99.82, 평균 검출율은 99.67%로 기존의 알고리즘에 비해 높은 검출 성능을 나타내었다. 또한 polyphase representation을 이용하여 M 채널 필터 뱅크를 구현한 결과 연산 시간이 단추되어 실시간 검출이 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • Polarization filtering based on the multicomponent complex trace analysis method is performed to reject Rayleigh waves and to enhance S waves. To test the polarization filter, synthetic seismic data were constructed for a simple two-layer model based on the finite difference method. Rayleigh waves with elliptic motion are eliminated effectively and P and S waves with linear motions are well separated each other.
