The purpose of this study is to analyze the medical education system of Korea and to propose a method of curriculum redesign. Although there have been many attempts by medical educators to improve the quality of medical education, the results have not been fruitful. First, there exists a limitation to the dualistic curriculum design based on Flexnerianism, and thus, this model does not provide an integrated experience to medical students. Therefore, we propose a unidimensional model for curriculum redesign. Second, it is impossible to promote excellence in medical education without solving the structural problems of teaching and learning, such as the teaching competency of the faculty, large-scale lectures, and team teaching systems. A curricular strategy that emphasizes mutual interaction and teaching accountability is necessary to promote meaningful learning. Third, the current clinical training system, the circulation model, provides incomplete training as well as a lack of sequence and articulation experiences. This system needs to be redesigned in a way that allows only those students who have mastered both the knowledge and the application of medical education to advance to the next step. Fourth, norm-referenced assessments of a medical college distort the learning process and create unconstructive system energy. A criterion-referenced assessment that values cooperation, independent study, and intrinsic motivation is more important for the reliability and validity of the assessment. Medical students should not focus on formative and informative learning. Medical colleges should investigate the multifaceted potential of the students and provide transformative learning to grow students into change agents. For this to take place, curriculum redesign-not new methods of medical education-is required.

This study aims to analyze the current status of continuing education for academic librarians based on the records of education. For this purpose, the study investigated the academic librarian's preferences for the topics of continuing education in terms of regional and monthly differences using the 30,404 education records in university and college library statistics of Korean Education and Research Information Service (KERIS). The results shows that 'academic database system' and 'cataloging' were the most preferred topics, and there were topical differences between the academic librarians in university and college.
The nursing education with evidence-based practice(EBP) should set a differentiated education strategy according to the level of the learner, so that the students experience it step by step and it leads them to be skilled. The purpose of this study was to integrate and operate the EBP in the fundamental nursing classes of the second grade students and to verify the effectiveness on improvement of EBP basic competency of them. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 108 students in the second year of nursing at the two universities. The experimental group participated in the class for 8 weeks and 24 hours during the 15-weeks, second semester 2016 and the control group participated in general fundamental nursing class. Data were collected proactivity in problem solving, future use of EBP, and critical thinking disposition instrument and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with Chi-square test, independent t-test. The experimental group had a significant increase in proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference in critical thinking disposition between the two groups. Findings indicate that the fundamental nursing class used EBP was an effective lesson to improve proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP, which is the EBP basic competency for the lower grader. Long-term efforts are needed to improve the EBP competence and critical thinking of nursing students by curriculum appropriate to grade-based goals of EBP.

The purpose of this study was to analyze reports from research middle schools based on the criteria for process-focused assessment to find out how the characteristics of process-focused assessment were being implemented in middle school science classes. The analysis criteria for the characteristics of process-focused assessment (integration of lessons and assessments, evaluation elements and methods, content and timing of feedback, and learner growth management) were extracted. Using the analysis framework, the result reports of seven research middle schools for process-focused assessment were analyzed. In terms of integration of lessons and assessments, when the process-focused assessment was operated, the class and evaluation plan were well implemented based on the curriculum achievement standards, but the process-focused assessment was recognized as a performance evaluation. In terms of evaluation elements and methods, the evaluation element for knowledge was the main component, and competency was presented in the planning stage, but competency was not dealt with in class execution. The evaluation method was biased toward teacher-centered observation evaluation and written test, and the setting of scoring criteria for each evaluation element was insufficient. In terms of the content and timing of feedback, feedback was mainly provided based on achievement confirmation, but no case was found in which scaffolding was provided at an appropriate time for insufficient parts in the learning process. In terms of the learner's growth management, the competencies cultivated through science classes were included in the detailed subject specialties of the school record. However, little was shown in the report on how to systematically manage the process of developing learners' competencies and reflect the evaluation results to teachers' class improvement.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether and how the features of performance assessments implemented during integrated science classes are related to teachers' PCK. We observed and video recorded four high school teachers' performance assessment practices, interviewed them, and surveyed their PCK. An analysis of the data shows that the teachers' performance assessment practices differed in terms of assessment of process, diagnosis of student learning progress, feedback, degree of classroom interactions, and use of assessment criteria. In particular, the opportunities for students to participate in assessment actively and use of assessment for learning varied across teachers. Also, relational patterns among science teaching orientations, PCK and performance assessment practices were found. When a teacher aimed at teaching for both academic learning and scientific literacy, sophisticated PCK was shown and assessment practices were complex accordingly. When scientific literacy was emphasized PCK highlighted experiential learning and assessments were not clearly distinguished from learning activities. In contrast, when academic achievement was emphasized traditional teaching strategies and assessments were highlighted. Based on these findings a number of topics for professional development are suggested including strategies for students' active engagement in assessment, use and development of specific assessment criteria, strategies for assessing performance qualities, and intuitive assessment competency development. Further research topics are also suggested.

This study aims to explore the direction of improvement that considers the talent image of science high schools in the admissions process. To this end, first, the talent image and competencies of science high schools were divided into 'publicity' and 'efficiency,' 'execution' and 'achievement' types, and 'publicity & execution' was predominant in most cases. Next, a total of 28 science high school teachers, education experts, and middle school teachers were surveyed on the degree of reflection of talent image and the direction of improvement in the admissions process of three science high schools. The results of the survey are as follows: first, the evaluation of 'publicity' was very limited in the first stage of admissions process, and selection based on 'achievement' was high. Second, there was a strong tendency to select based on 'efficiency & achievement' in the second stage of interview evaluation. Third, we need to improve the selection of students who fit the 'publicity & execution' type of talent image by introducing 'publicity & execution' type of talent image by introducing 'write a competency-oriented self-introduction letter, reflect other subjects' grades and comparative studies in the school life record, and experts' interviews' to the first-stage of admissions process. Fourth, convergence and open-ended questions that enable divergent thinking should be jointly submitted to reflect the 'publicity & execution' type of talent image in the second stage of interview evaluation. In conclusion, the direction of improvement that considers the talent image of science high schools in the admissions process should be changed to competency-oriented in the first-stage of admissions process and in the second stage of interview evaluation consisting of open-ended questions.

Today, the United States, Europe and other advanced organizations are utilizing the concept of competency-based HR management. Recently, many organizations in Korea are also managing workforces by introducing the concept of job competencies in personnel management. However, in spite of the current trend, domestic human resources management methods for construction managers continues to operate by asking about work experience, licensing, education level, etc. This is a seniority system and it functions separately from an assessment of practical job competencies for the business. Moreover, construction management work has been very fragmented in terms of expertise and capacity depending on the type of management work and project progress. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a competencies management system for each business segment to effectively manage job competencies that reflect the the characteristics of a construction manager' s work. As such, the aim of this study is to analyze human resources management methods pertaining to domestic construction managers and present challenges and limitations in current practices. In particular, factors affecting the job competencies of construction managers are analyzed statistically. The results of this study will be used as the basis for future research into development of a construction manager competency management system.

This study aims to get necessary information for designing the systematic and practical career preparation education program by checking the differences among core competency of collegiate and career variables. In order to do that, the core competence of collegiate was identified through Korea collegiate essential skills assessment(K-CESA), and the survey results about career preparation behavior, career decision-making self efficacy and career barriers were collected. And then the data were compared and analyzed to differentiate relationships among core competency of collegiate and career variables, based on the university types and the locations. The data were analyzed by ANOVAs and t-tests using the SPSS 21.0 program. According to the analysis, firstly, there is a difference in the level of collegiate essential skills depending on the characteristics of schools. Secondly, the students at metropolitan four-year universities feel more difficulties primarily in the variable of career barriers than the students at local universities and students at colleges. Thirdly, the students of high rank at core competence showed higher career decision-making self-efficacy and career preparation behavior than the students of low rank, and they feel less difficulties in the matter of career barrier. This study shows that in order to support students' career efficiently, it is necessary for each college and university to design career program by considering the core competency and the level of career development of students, instead of providing them with a unified and fractional program.

Medical Students' competencies depend on the medical school curriculum. Basic medical education, in particular, is an important starting point for further medical competency development. We aimed to identify the most important areas of reform in the basic medical education curriculum of Yonsei Medical School. To accomplish this, we sought case studies of different medical schools and discussion points for quality improvement methods. A qualitative comparison method saturated through the systematic discussions on the emerging thematic approaches to determine the current directions in medical school curriculum reform. The discussions, which involved 7 experts, spanned 8 months and were based on a literature review, with focus on the 7 selected case studies. From the discussions, we concluded that in order to improve basic medical education curriculum, the following measures need to be carried out. First, an outcome-based curriculum is to be designed. The expected outcome is to be deliberately and succinctly defined and should be expressed as teaching and learning objectives. Second, the core subjects and elective subjects are to be classified on the basis of the aim, content, and passage level of the subjects. Hence, the core curriculum must be treated as a standard part of medical knowledge, and the elective curriculum must be richer and more in-depth. Third, universities should institutionalize regular evaluation of their departments. Appropriate and just evaluations should be made, and feedback given to the school's administrative department. Fourth, the departmental and administrative management of the basic medical education curriculum should be harmonized with each other. Finally, teaching and learning resources are to be increased and diversified and made available to professors and students for basic medical education.

The purpose of this study is to systematically develop an impression management education program for career women by applying the Educational System Development Model [ESD] (Kwon, 1997) based on the research results of Hwang and Lee(2019) on social attractiveness. Since the previous impression management education programs were generally developed by content experts, few of them were developed systematically by considering the learner characteristics, clearly setting the educational goals, and structuring the contents accordingly. In this study, 'social attractiveness' defined by Hwang and Lee (2019) was considered as the educational goal of the impression management education program. In particular, this study focused on the design stage of the ESD model, set teaching goals based on the components of social attractiveness derived from previous studies, and conducted an analysis of teaching activities, the establishment of the educational goals at the specific function level, allocation of time, and establishment of an evaluation plan. The research process was intended to improve the learners' social image directly related to success through a systematic educational program designed to enhance the social attractiveness of working women with various hands-on activities and information. The impression management education program designed in this study has the educational advantage of a learner-centered education program configured to meet the needs and goals of career women. In addition, based on the ESD model, the sub-factors necessary for impression management were identified, and the curriculum was configured to reflect them through mutual communication between the instructor and learners. Therefore, this education program meets the basic requirements of impression management education necessary for career women and is expected to contribute to enhancing the social attractiveness of working women.
