Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify professional competencies of visiting nurses in public health centers. Methods: A methodological study for the development of visiting nurses' professional competency was conducted through the review of literature and construction of a conceptual framework for the development of professional competence. After reviewing the content validity of each question and confirming the items of the preliminary tool, the construct validity of the tool was verified through exploratory factor analysis and internal reliability was confirmed. Results: After constructing 5 factors relating to the visiting nurse's professional competence, 25 items were developed, based on verification of content validity by experts. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed that the professional competence of the visiting nurse was influenced by factors such as "health assessment and screening," "health teaching and counseling," "interprofessional communication", "program planning and implementation", and "Professional development". These five factors accounted for 76.38% of the professional competencies of the visiting nurse. Conclusion: The professional competence of the visiting nurse is consistent with the aim of the visiting nursing project. Also our results will contribute to baseline data used to evaluate the quality of work of the visiting nurse.

The purpose of this study is to investigate between communication competence, academic self-efficacy, satisfaction of clinical practice and self-leadership of nursing students and to identify the factors affecting self-leadership. The subjects of the study were 156 third graders who are attending nursing university in G city. Self-leadership has a significant positive correlation with communication competence, academic self-sufficiency, satisfaction of clinical practice. Communication competence, academic self-efficacy, and satisfaction of clinical practice were identified as variables influencing the self-leadership of nursing students. This study show that the factors affecting the self-leadership of nursing students can be helpful in the application of nursing education and programs.
Recently, a lot of companies intend to make spin-offs as the Internet usage is proliferating in the business area. A spin-off means a small but autonomous company which is thought to show higher profitability rather than it stays under the influence of a mother enterprise. To prove our hypotheses, we collected questionnaire data from 104 companies considering spin-offs. From experiments with Factor Analysis, we found that there exist four factors which decision-makers should consider before deciding spin-offs such as competence of unit, competence of mother company, competence of spin-off company, and support of mother company. After massive experiments with Regression Analysis we also found that there are significant three performance factors such as competence of unit, competence of spin-off company, and support of mother company. The survey also asked about three potential strategies that they may have been following for achieving business objectives: Cost leadership, Focus, and Differentiation, Six benefits factors emerged from this study: External competitiveness, Internal competency, Productivity, Change, Cost saving, and Improvement. External competitiveness was the most important benefit, and it predicted a Differentiation and Focus strategy. Productivity and Improvement also predicted a Differentiation strategy. External competitiveness, Change, and Cost saving predicted a Cost leadership strategy. However, organizations followed Differentiation and Focus strategies significantly more than Cost leadership. The assessment thus sheds light on the link between information strategy and spin off. We hope that based on our results, many companies considering a spin-off can make a right decision and expect higher performance in a turbulent business environment.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate clinical competence in relation to self-directed learning, critical thinking disposition, and participating in PBL(Problem-Based Learning) group activities of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from 108 nursing students in Oct. 2006. Results: Clinical competence had a significant positive correlation with self-directed learning, critical thinking disposition, and participation in PBL group activities. There was a significant difference in clinical competence according to interpersonal relationship. Participation in PBL group activities was the most influential factor of clinical competence($R^2$=.34). Also, the influence of clinical competence increased with the addition of self-directed learning($R^2$=.42). Conclusion: It is essential to encourage the self-directed learning and participation in PBL group activities for the improvement of clinical competence. It is relatively important for clinical competence to consider the educational environment systematically.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of intensive and critical care nursing competence in senior nursing students. Methods: The research method for this study comprised a descriptive survey study with a convenience sample of 113 senior nursing students from one university. The instrument entitled ICCN-CS-1, which measures intensive and critical care nursing competence, was translated by the authors following WHO guidelines for translation process. The data were collected using ICCN-CS-1. Results: The mean score of intensive and critical care nursing was above the intermediate level. The competence indices of knowledge, skill and attitude/value were also above the intermediate level, which suggests that their competence is good. For two intensive and critical care nursing domains, the nursing students' mean score of clinical competence is higher than that of professional competence. The competence of intensive and critical care is also influenced by nursing students' satisfaction in their major and clinical practice as well as their confidence in clinical practice. Conclusion: The senior nursing students' competence of intensive and critical care nursing is above the intermediate level. A consideration of the influencing factors of satisfaction of nursing major/ICU practice and confidence of ICU practice is needed in intensive and critical care nursing education.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of family relations on adolescents' social competence. Furthermore, this study aimed to examine the mediating role of ego-resilience between those factors. Method: Two hundred and ninety-nine high school students completed measures of family cohesion, family expressiveness, ego-resilience, and social competence. T-tests, correlation and regression analyses were conducted. Results: The results reveled that family cohesion, family expressiveness, and ego-resilience were positively related to social competence. The results also revealed that family cohesion and expressiveness were significantly predicted social competence, emphasizing the role of family relations. Moreover, the association of family cohesion and expressiveness with adolescents' social competence was partially mediated by ego-resilience. Conclusions: The findings suggests that family cohesion and expressiveness contributes to adolescents' social competence directly and indirectly through ego-resilience. Results were discussed in terms of their implications for intervention to enhance social competence among adolescents.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional labor and communication competence on geriatric nursing in nurses-related stress in nurses caring for older patients. Methods: The sample consisted of 147 general hospital nurses. Data were analyzed through the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The factors of emotional labor (β=.38, p<.001)and positive communication competence (β=-.20, p=.021) had the greatest influence on the level of stress related to geriatric nursing in nurses caring for older patients. The total explanatory power was 20.3%. Conclusion: It was found that emotional labor and communication competence were influencing factors in the stress related to geriatric nursing. Therefore, to improve nurses' stress related to geriatric nursing, strategies to manage the emotional labor, and to strengthen and develop positive communication competence need to be developed.

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the learning perception of aviation service subjects using role play on the interpersonal competence, learning satisfaction, and learning outcomes of college students majoring in aviation service. A survey was conducted targeting 217 university students majoring in aviation service who are enrolled in universities in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong area and have experience in class using role play. In addition, the hypothesis is verified using the structural equation model. Among the perceptions of role play classes experienced by university students majoring in aviation service, 'inter-dependency' was found to have a positive (+) effect on all sub-factors of interpersonal competence. And 'usefulness' confirmed the positive (+) influence relationship with 'temperament for others' and 'communication' except for 'relationship promotion' of interpersonal ability. Among sub-factor of interpersonal competence, it is confirmed that only the factors of 'temperament for others' and 'communication' had an effect on learning satisfaction. And it is proved that learning satisfaction is an important determinant of learning outcomes. Therefore, this study is expected to serve as a basis for deriving an efficient and optimal learning method for practical subjects in aviation service majors.
Purpose - For small and medium sized firms, CEO characteristics are main factor influencing firms' prosperity as well as performance. So it is quite natural that many people are interested in factors of CEO that matters. In this research, CEO characteristics in terms of capabilities and skill or special knowledge necessary to run the business are invested for manufacturing firms. Precedent studies reveal that CEO characteristics such as psychological factors including desire to succeed, tendency to take risks, personal factors including age, year of running business, and task related factors including managing capability, communication skills, network influence firm performance for manufacturing firms. However, these studies simply verify whether or not those factors affect firm's managing performance. This study, however, goes further to investigate how is the affecting process from CEO's capabilities and organization characteristics to firm's core competence, and from core competence to advantages, and from advantages to managing performance. Research design, data, and methodology - We make a questionnaire and surveyed manufacturing firm CEO's in Gyeonggi-do area. General characteristics analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis, and control effect analysis was conducted. SPSS 2.0 Win, version was used. Results - The CEO characteristics including basic capability, task capability, leadership, and organization characteristics affect core competence at the statistically significant level. And, core competence affect both price advantage and differentiation advantage at the significant level. Some unique finding is that while differentiation advantage affects both financial achievement and non-financial achievement, price advantage does not affect both financial and non-financial achievement. And firm characteristics mainly measured by CEO characteristics of skills has control effects on the trace from core competence to price advantage. Conclusions - For small and medium sized firms CEO characteristics is the most important factor influencing firm's prosperity. For manufacturing firms, whether CEO has the skill or special knowledge to run the firm is critical factor. The study results show that CEO's for manufacturing firms put importance on price and price advantage which seems to be familiar to them. However, the price advantage does not influential to financial and non-financial achievement. This result suggests that small and medium sized manufacturing firms' CEO's should make effort to improve other aspects of advantages to be more competitive.
To help define future research direction and enhance educational service for children from Asian and Latino immigrant backgrounds, this review examines research investigating social competence with reference to host and heritage language skills. A targeted search obtained 14 peer-reviewed studies published from 1994 to 2014 focusing on children aged from birth to 12 years. Social competence is mainly measured by four dimensions: externalizing behaviours, internalizing behaviours, social skills and relationships with others. The evidence suggests that English proficiency levels are positively associated with social skills and parent-child relationships are of higher quality when parent-child heritage language difference is minimal. However the findings are mixed regarding how English levels are associated with externalizing, internalizing behaviours and relationships with others and how heritage language levels are associated with social competence. This review makes a set of recommendations for future research including assessment of participants' language proficiency with language tests and examination of emotional factors in the relationship between English and social competence. The implications of the findings are also discussed for educators.
